zow2 Posted Sunday at 04:49 PM Posted Sunday at 04:49 PM She smoked someone I've never heard of in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Time to start paying attention again. Always fun in the post game interview on court when they ask her about the Bills and upcoming season, and there are ton of Bill fans in the crowd cheering. She says Bills fans are everywhere she goes around the world and are huge supporters. 3 1 1 2 Quote
Augie Posted Sunday at 05:34 PM Posted Sunday at 05:34 PM (edited) She’s playing in the US Open from NYC, and we all know there is only one NFL team in New York!!! She looked solid today, in firm control. Like the Bills, she is indeed good enough to win it all as the #4 seed. She just needs a few things to bounce right for her. . DaVinci Posted Sunday at 05:35 PM Posted Sunday at 05:35 PM (edited) Last three matches she was strong! If she wins its a sign. Edited Sunday at 05:44 PM by DaVinci Quote
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted Sunday at 07:15 PM Posted Sunday at 07:15 PM The only issue is I think she would have to play Sabalenka in the semis, who is always a beast. I am hoping that someone knocks off sabalenski and sinner— two pretty unlikable 1 seeds. 1 2 Quote
BillsPride12 Posted Sunday at 07:29 PM Posted Sunday at 07:29 PM Didn't get to watch this morning was out playing golf but was checking in on the score. Will def make sure I watch the rest of her matches from here out. Would be awesome if she can go all the way this year. 1 Quote
Augie Posted Sunday at 09:21 PM Posted Sunday at 09:21 PM Taylor Townsend is #1 in women’s doubles but outside the top 100 in singles….until the next rankings come out. She just played a 25+ minute tiebreak and lost in the second after an easy 6-1 first set. I’m fascinated by her and her story. She trains at the park I go to with a phone/tablet on a tripod aimed at her, and she hires a hitting partner (who is amazing!). It’s a FaceTime session with her coach on the tripod who talks with her periodically. Sometimes she will just stand and talk with the coach for long stretches with nothing for the hitting pro to do. Even when she’s hitting it’s not always high rep hitting, it’s very deliberate with each ball. My buddy has been known to get to hit with the hitting pro after particularly light sessions when he wants to break a sweat. This is not IMG Academy or a fancy club, it’s the hardcourts at the park. She has a little boy who will tell her after a loss “that’s alright, Mommy, do you want to play dinosaurs?” It puts things in perspective. Quote

Shes got another unranked opponent in the quarters and then like you said trouble in the semi if they both get there 1 Quote

File my interest under I hope she excels but will spend no time keeping track until it's in front of me through TBD or the national media. 1 Quote
boater Posted yesterday at 04:59 PM Posted yesterday at 04:59 PM Jessica comes across as a genuinely nice person. I wish her success. ..and she has been successful, despite never winning the big one. She has been in the Top 1% of her sport for 10 years now. All of us here can only dream of such success. Go Jessica! 4 1 Quote

Go Jessica! We’ve come a long way from “she’s just a little rich girl with a hobby”! I’m incredibly impressed by her and Emma Navarro. With a billionaire father, it would be very easy to mail it in and just live the good life. Their success demonstrates a level of character that I have to appreciate. 2 Quote
Augie Posted yesterday at 09:46 PM Posted yesterday at 09:46 PM Women’s doubles is getting a lot of air time with Venus in the mix. I’m loving that! I’d rather play singles, but generally watching doubles is more fun for me. It’s like team tennis, somebody get me a beer! 😂 1 Quote

If she won the Australian Open, that would be like the Bills winning the Super Bowl during a global TV blackout. Like a mini black hole in the sports coverage universe. . Very interesting game in terms of how she attacks the ball, often taking it early (swinging forehands, etc). Quote
Low Positive Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago This is a tougher match that it seems. Seeding matters very little in women's tennis. Krejcikova is a 2-time major champion, winning Wimbledon just last year. Her main strength is being steady and waiting for her opponent to crack. You have to be patient and on your game to beat her. In the last round, Taylor Townsend won the first set 6-0 and had 8 match points in the second-set tiebreak. Barbora just hung around and ended up winning in the 3rd. Quote
