I heard on the game of the bears looking to build a new stadium.

what stunned me is where they want to build it.

the location is not good.

chicago with its convention center and hotels is one of 3 cities innthe U.S. that can hold major conferences.  Vegas on the strip can do this. Orland convention center which is near sea world and universal can host large conferences too.

where Chicago want to build this new stadium appears to be out by O hare airport. On the surface that is perfectly fine.  The problems arise if they think they can use it to host other big events like final 4 and conventions.  If they build the stadium in the downtown area where hotels are they could do this.

I love these posts. The bears probably spent like 100k for a study of the best place to build the new stadium, had countless meetings with state and govt officials, held town halls with citizens and finally, after all that, were able to agree on a site.

But then somebody comes on a message board and is like "why not downtown?"

Why do they need a domed stadium downtown for conventions?  They already have a world class convention center.  Where they put the new stadium doesn’t matter one bit to their convention business.

We were in Chicago on vacation a couple of weeks ago, and we took a small tour bus around the eastern part of the city.  The driver pointed out the original stadium and then the expensive addition on the top of it, the part that looks like a UFO landed on it. So Chicago spent all that money on upgrading their current stadium and now they're going to spend billions on a brand new stadium.  The old one is near Lake Michigan which is also where the museums etc are, and Wrigley Field is also on the eastern side of the city but farther north.  Maybe the new location was chosen to try to spread the wealth or maybe it was to reduce traffic congestion on game days.
