Rousseau was a pretty physical specimen coming out that needed to develop as a pass rusher.

As it stands, he’s third in his draft class in career sacks, and the only two guys ahead of him are Kwity Paye and Micah Parsons.

Jaelyn Phillips was seen as the more complete pass rusher but has not been able to stay healthy at all in Miami.

Ultimately, I have no problem with drafting Rousseau and hoping he can develop.

where I think the issue may eventually lie is paying him as they did and his performance not really changing. They doubled down on him. Maybe it will work and he will continue to improve, or maybe, they gave a B+ player an A- contract that won’t look great in 2 or 3 seasons.

Its not dissimilar to Eddy, but Eddy flashed very hard his contract year or the year just after and showed the vision of his pass rusher ability imo.

The Bills problem is they draft guys who hope to develop, and many dont to the level expected.

I am shocked AJE did not receive a vote.

He is dissed on here continuously.

I am afraid to respond that I don't think he is that bad.

I don’t know if I would say expected as much as I would say hoped.

players with elite physical profiles and proof of concept that they can utilize those gifts aren’t late first round pick prospects.

The Bills clearly like to take shots on physical specimens that they hope they can coach up and refine. Josh, Edmunds, Elam, Hairston, Greg.

Josh most importantly worked out the best there.

But you are right that most of them aren’t really even too often probowlers, as low of a bar as that is, and as much as you’d expect with how much physical talent they have.

That’s why I am for chasing Parsons with multiple firsts, if necessary. Sure, the next Greg Rousseau type guy might hit massively and be a top 8 EDGE, but we don’t have 3 years to develop them and the odds of it happening at all are quite small.

Really, Palmer already?

I chose Palmer because this was Beane's big FA move for the offense.  He paid a decent amount of money for a guy with potential and next gen stats but hasn't produced yet. He chose him over trying to acquire more proven talent.

I picked him because if he and the offense struggle there will be lots on consternation in Bills land.

For the record I liked the move and the Moore signing. Both guys may just need opportunities to succeed.

All that said too, it is going to be everybody eats 2.0 almost assuredly. There is not a dominant player but there are several very good options in the pass game between the WR, TE, and RBs. In a perfect scenario the targets Hollins got last year moslty go to a dominant Kincaid. Give Josh an all world TE and he will be MVP again.

What is that saying, you can't whip a dead horse?

You can only complain so much before its just background noise. Much like me complaining about carrying a FB on a team that runs the QB in almost all short yardage situations.

I went other ... It starts at the top and that's Beane. The Coaching staff he hired or approved of, he's responsible for drafting and or signing players. When you're the top banana it's up to you.

You have Josh freaking Allen, no more excuses.

Ok, it has been awhile since we have discussed this, but there are a lot of players getting the whipping boy treatment these days, so who is whipping boy #1?

Gotta say, that’s a collection of names and reasons that captures approximately 72% of TBD posts.

Is it though? I’m sure they are in the Top 10 since many teams have front office turnover when they don't win and only half the teams win.

And there you have it, in your own words even,

Thanks. I would add Brandon Beane (hasn’t found a Josh Allen on Defense) to the list, because several of the “other” votes have been for him, but I think it is too late for changes.

Rousseau never really got home in college or during rookie deal. He is who we drafted.

Right, he isn't a dud, but I think the expectation from fans is for him to be "the guy" on the line.

I like having him.

His contract is fine.

But I think there's an itch for him to be a bigger impact player.

Babich probably pretty pleased about that.

Jags reddit for some light reading https://www.reddit.com/r/Jaguars/s/ikoPjjM4Ip

Wow , that is some terrible , and yet familiar, reading on there.  It just makes you wonder why Mcd brings in a guy his own team shredded.  Thus coaching staff and Beane will be responsible if they fail to get a Lombardi w Josh.  All the wasted picks , FA moves on this d which has been atrocious and this teams Achilles heel , just makes me feel ill.  Look at all the HOF talent polian and the 90’s teams had that propelled them to 4 superbowls ( where frankly the players just failed to play up to their talent level) , and now with possibly the most gifted qb in nfl history they barely get any pro bowl nominations, yet alone any HOF talent outside of Josh.  It’s Dan marinos story happening again , just like Shula failing to put talent around him.

Mcd is a great coach for this team. I can’t envision anyone else leading them. But I can’t forgive the blown games , 13 seconds , hail murray, etc and a defense we all expect to fail on third downs and also rarely get pressure with just our front four. It’s maddening , and then he goes and brings in a guy, like this from a terrible Jax franchise , and he’s had to replace two o coordinators and one d coordinator ( 2 if you count replacing himself with Babich) previously. Listen to players who’ve won titles and they all give credit to the coaches for getting them over the final hump to bring home the Lombardi.

Beanes biggest failures have been all the failed assets devoted to the d line ,and his persistence in failing to draft or bring in adequate receiving talent around Josh. The other thing winning sb players say is your best players also have to play their best to win. We see our roster filled with guys who drop balls or come up short at playoff moments. It just seems talent selection outside Josh , now possibly cook as well , never compares to the roster depth and talent we see on teams like the chiefs and eagles.
Watching our talent in the giants game , it’s hard to feel confident this d still won’t have holes at safety and picks like Jackson ( rooting for the guy with being dealt a terrible form of alopecia yet managed to be a great guy and land a beautiful wife!) just seem to be like more of the same things like AJ OR BOOGIE BASHAM , at a time we are primed to make another run.   So why do we repeat these types of mediocre moves and bring in a guy from Jax who performed terribly even against us ,while our own d coordinator had a mediocre year already?  Didn’t we see this on our oc before with Dorsey?  It just makes me SMH; as Mcd preaches a playoff standard yet he so far seems incapable of championship caliber decision making.   Watched the ravens preseason game , and honestly , I’m expecting them to out physical  this d and run all over this front early , esp with ped guys out , and once again Mcd will fail to grab that important one seed. Just more questionable decisions that won’t fix the sack issues or 3 rd down woes. Doesn’t seem like we brought in championship , or even playoff caliber coaching additions.  Maybe Mcd doesn’t believe in the philosophy of surrounding yourself with people even better than you are if you want to continue advancing. Thanks for the link, some pretty amazing statements there !
