he did not get a higher percentage of guaranteed money than Keon Coleman did last year

Keon Coleman got 96% of his contract guaranteed he got 95%

100% is unheard of and what was making this go slow in the second round.. some do get 70 80 even 90 Plus guaranteed

Think he's the rookie I'm most excited for

You can get a life-sized wall decal of Sanders from Fathead but the 2025 rookies haven't been released yet. I think they're airbrushing their crotchal areas before making them available for bedroom walls.

Two other 2nd rounders already got guaranteed contracts.  It wouldn't have broken precedence.

As @PromoTheRobot mentions, the precedents are by draft slot, not round.

I think Walker may end up being the most dominant of the bunch but how awesome would this DL be if both became legit?

Thank you so very much for not saying that he'll be the most "dominate" of the bunch.

Maybe there is hope for our country.

10,074,258 deal for Coleman

9,640,505 guaranteed

He's only 430,000 off total guarantee

Sanders is 600,000 off

Keon Coleman got a higher percentage of his contract guaranteed last year

Numbers for comparison...

Last year's 33rd pick, Keon Coleman got 95.69% of his contract guaranteed.

This year's 33rd pick, Carson Schwesinger got 100% guaranteed.

This year's 39th pick WR Luther Burden received a 100% guaranteed contract.

This year's 40th pick is a QB... Tyler Shough and he remains unsigned.

This year's 41st pick, TJ Sanders got 94.63% guaranteed.

This year's 42nd pick, TE Mason Taylor got 91.30% guaranteed.

A fully gaurenteed (or almost) contract for a 2nd rounder seems insane to me, but guess that's buisness

I think this is a good thing for all

The kids don't have to second guess how they train or practice. Or even play the games a bit shy.

I think it will take away a ton of stress in other ways as well. Player Focus pivots to playing football free and full on. Maybe overthinking it.

Your boy, Doc!  Mr. Cook, the extension he deserves and will likely get before game 1 IMO.

Hard to imagine Beane or McDermott want that hanging over their heads during camp and into the season.  Especially with even more attention on the Bills because of  Hard Knocks.

We will see soon..

Honestly, $10mil for a billion dollar franchise is a rounding error.  And secondly, assuming no major injuries, how many 2nd round picks are cut before their contract expires?

The odds of them not paying the full contract amount seem pretty small.  So why not just guarantee it and move on?

I know you didn't say it was bad.  Interesting that you think 50% is better than average.  I don't know at all, but I'd like to get starters on more than 50% of second rounders.

The number is higher up the thread. Only about 25% of second rounders see out their entire rookie deals on their original team.

What's funny is them refusing to guarantee the whole contract.  That extra $572k will be held over his head for four years?

it probably amounts to 3 years fully guaranteed and a 4th year that has offset language so if he signs any contract they are off the hook but if he’s totally out of the league they owe him a few bucks

basically “you are practically guaranteed to be here 3 years, so whatever- but we aren’t going to supplement your salary for the another team to get you cheaper to play against us if you are still in the league year 4”

Thanks.

Amazing how difficult it is to draft well.   Teams should be better than that.

Agreed.  I didn’t see that % up thread.  Seems like you gotta be doing something wrong to not hit more frequently on your 2nd or 3rd pick?

I doubt a TV show is going to move the needle on any financial decision Beane makes.  I hope not at least.

That line of thinking means every draft pick every year sets a new precedent.  It was a coordinated effort by 2nd round picks though but we're just talking semantics at this point.

Let's hope. Could also make the player lazy thinking he has 10 million dollars and he's set for life. Time will tell

i do, hope it embarrasses Beane, an excellent GM for the Bills, one day will likely be considered THE best, when people keep wondering why the best skill player on the best offense in the league, a superstar in the making, is expected to play out his contract, and risk a career ending injury in the process, when what he is asking for is likely very close what the Bills will end up paying him--and much less than what Cook will get in free agency next year after a monster 2025 season.

I think there are indications the logic of it all has been getting to Beane.

And shoot, even Steve Tasker has almost completely reversed course!, now understanding, after re-watching games from last year, that plugging in a good running back will not replace this star.

I think it gets done before camp, but if not, before game 1.     3-4 years, with lots of upfront money and guarantees.

You have that backwards.

25% don’t see the full four years.

@AdamSchefter

And now the Bills have reached agreement with their second-round pick, defensive tackle TJ Sanders, on a four-year, $10.645 million deal that has $10.073 million of it guaranteed, per agents Robert Bailey and Drew Rosenhaus.

Alright!  Can't wait to get rolling next week!  GO BILLS!

If he turns out to be as good as the last guy they took that made his name known in the NFL from SC this will be a awesome signing for the team going forward fora quite a while .

Ah, got you. My apologies. In which case the Bills are below average at 50%.

Actually, on the first page Old Coot said this:

Hope the guy is still around for the full four years. Historically 25% of 2d rounders are not with their original team at the 4 year mark.

I don't know where he got his data, but if he is correct then 75% of second rounders play out their full rookie contract with their teams.

Yea my bad I'd speed read and got wrong way round. It makes the Bills slightly below average at 3/6 - 50%.

It does.

i think the corollary is how many those second rounders actually deserve to be on the roster for 4 years?

Meaning, if we kept Boogie and Ford as depth for an extra year rather than dumping them for peanuts, does it really matter or make a difference.

Everyone’s definition of bust vs hit is so different. Is AJE a disappointment or is he a hit because he got a very modest second contract in Buffalo?

I think like anything else, analysis has to be pretty clear across the league to make meaningful comparisons
