He definitely is in the top 10 with out a doubt !!! Though I feel we have seen his ceiling as a coach, I could never be so happy to be told to piss off as I would if he leads the Bills to a SB win. 1 1 Quote

Why do you think he’s hit his ceiling? What indicates that? I tend to think that people get better at their job over time given more experience. I’d say McD has done that up to this point, so why should he stop now? That’s the way it’s supposed to work, and from my experience how it typically goes. How lone did it take Andy Reid to win is first Super Bowl? Now he does it about every other year. . Edited 5 hours ago by Augie 1 Quote

He is not as good a coach as Sean. Not even close. Sorry I'm a bit late seeing this comment, I was wondering what you've seen and how you know this about him hating and it being his call? Quote

If you speak to anyone with any knowledge around the Browns they will confirm it. I don't know how much of bringing in Watson was him. But he was the one who wanted Baker out. Quote
Ramza86 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago 13 seconds. If a fat idiot like myself sitting on a couch is screaming at the TV to not give that much space to the WRs he has no excuse to botch that. 1 Quote

I pray that there is some sort of statute of limitations on the whole 13 second thing. The ST coach and the DC are gone from that fiasco. I refuse to make myself sick over it years later. Live, learn, and move on. 1 1 Quote

Those coaches are gone, yet we made equally terrible coaching decisions at the end of the Rams game this past season. One of my concerns with McDermott is that I haven't seen improvement. Too frequently in high leverage moments we are still seeing boneheaded coaching blunders and that has persisted year over year. Oh well. Just gotta hope he figures it out this year, nothing else I can do. 1 Quote

Nothing is perfect in life, but I do enjoy that we get to some big moments. Fingers crossed that he gets the Bills over the hump sooner rather than later. Quote

Reid made in his 6th year with McNabb & 0:13 is the equivalent of attempted murder in the coaching world. There is no statute of limitations. Most of the board hopes you are right, but when you start talking logic and statistics, you are building the case to move on if we are serious about a Super Bowl. For most coaches those blunders are things like "ah we ran on 4th and 1 instead of giving our QB a chance" where the thought process was defensible and the fan reaction was entirely outcome dependent. You're not typically seeing cases where the coaching decision was so bad that it effectively ended the game. In those cases the offending coach is usually quickly fired, like Matt Eberflus after the Thanksgiving game in Detroit last year. Another example to me was in the Ravens playoff game when we had our backup DL on the field for the entire final drive, which gave us no chance of stopping them, but luckily we got saved from that fatal coaching blunder through sheer luck on the 2PC. My fear with McDermott for a while has been that I think you need to win those moments at least once or twice in your playoff run to ultimately win a Super Bowl. I don't know if he just tightens up too much in those high leverage moments or what, but he has consistently failed in those moments in some pretty shocking ways. Some of the other criticisms of McDermott I can find some explanations, like maybe the defensive breakdowns in the playoffs really are just because of talent and/or injuries, but I can't find an explanation for those end of game moments. RochesterLifer Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I've been following this thread with some amusement and bemusement. Except for the Chiefs, no franchise in the NFL has sustained the Bills' consistent level of excellence. It's really that simple and is the irrefutable indictment of PFF's top ten coaching list. 2024-25 may have been McDermott's best year, as we kept our top level of competitiveness while transitioning our core. Any top 10 coaching list without McDermott is not a top 10 coaching list. I understand and share the frustrations listed in this thread. - The defensive line churn. - The heavy reliance on Josh. Although our improved O-line and running game are nice steps forward. - And, of course, the still elusive Lombardi trophy. Honestly, I'm 64 with cancer - please win the go***mned thing while I am here to cherish the moment. Don't let thoughts of purity and perfection deny you the opportunity to enjoy this period of greatness. They create the denial of a happy life. Quote
