EmotionallyUnstable Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Specifically looking at electric, the supply charge has doubled on top of an also increasing delivery charge from NYSEG. Ive effectively seen my bill raise 75% comparing May 2024 - May 2025, despite only a lightly significant increase in kWh. Anyone else feeling this? Might need to start reading up on solar panels 1 1 1 Quote
US Egg Posted May 21 Posted May 21 (edited) They put one of those new smart meters on my house when I wasn’t home. Dirty *****! Bill jumped about 25%. I’ve been meaning to call(thanks for the reminder)to see if it can be switched back, but doubt they will. I just asked my wife, she says it’s closer to 40% for each of the two months we’ve had it. I think if you don't have it they charge you a monthly fee 1 Quote
dhg Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Our bill has raised significantly since they put the smart meter in. At least 50% 1 Quote

Wacka Posted May 21 Posted May 21 I got the smart meter year ago. The rates went up but the Kwh is almost exactly the same. I'm on the budget plan. They increased the set amount to match what I paid last year. Quote
geggytah Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Yup, same here. Feels like I’m getting charged for just thinking about using electricity. Quote

Definitely would like to lean into consistency if that’s something they offer Quote
Orlando Buffalo Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Not in NY, so I have Duke electric, but my electric bill has basically doubled since 2019 despite using lower electricity due to my better windows and insulation. This is definitely a country wide issue. Quote

Fr. Jerk Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Right on, mane. Not only are these utility bills too high, these pretzels are making me thirsty! 1 Quote

Augie Posted May 22 Posted May 22 We rented the first year we were married and paid $600/month in rent. This is 40 years ago, and we felt the rent was very doable. We should have rented a place with better insulation. We were married in February, and our first electric bill was also about $600. Some lessons you learn the hard way. Quote

Fleezoid Posted May 23 Posted May 23 My dad used to walk around the house turning off lights and bitching the whole time, saying "all the dam lights in the house are on." I would bet every dad did that. Fast forward.....it's true, we do turn into our parents. 1 Quote

Johnny Hammersticks Posted May 25 Posted May 25 I really started to notice last summer. My electric bill is typically higher in the summer time bc I run 5 AC units in my home. It wasn’t uncommon to get a monthly bill for $225-250. My bill since then has been at least $325-350 regardless of the season. 1 Quote
