Snappysnackcakes Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Terrible. The backseat of golf carts are dangerous. My own BIL was in an accident - fell off the back - and suffered a TBI. Can no longer teach school but is learning to plumb. 5 minutes ago, Mr. WEO said: Elway will never fill out a foursome again... Funny as hell. 1 Quote

The victim bears the brunt of this when they chose to ride on the back of a golf cart... very dangerous. Why does it seem that many here have never seen a golf cart. 2 2 1 Quote

The Madison Club (where the accident happened) is an extremely exclusive private club and there’s no way they would allow something like that on the course. I’ve been playing golf for more than 50 years and I’ve never seen a “4-seater” being used by golfers on an actual golf courses. It’s just not a thing. 9 hours ago, mannc said: I just read some other reports of the incident and they say the accident did not happen on the golf course, but on the way home from a function at the club, probably on a roadway. If it didn’t happen on the course, it very well could have been one of those 4-seaters. 7 hours ago, 3rdand12 said: From PFT: Former NFL agent Jeff Sperbeck has died. He was 62. Sperbeck suffered a serious injury after falling off a golf cart on Saturday. His friend, business partner, and former client John Elway was driving... Elway, Sperbeck, their wives, and Elway’s son were riding on the golf cart when Sperbeck fell from the vehicle and struck his head. Sperbeck had been on life support until his passing on Wednesday morning. 5 People in a golf cart... I know they make 6 seaters too but "falling off the back" makes you wonder if there was a 3rd (rear facing) row or if they were crammed onto a 4 seater. Quote
jaab1028 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 (edited) Unfortunately 40 years ago I lost a friend the same way,no alcohol was involved it,he lost his grip as he was fooling around and fell back and hit his head on the paved pathway and died.Just a freak accident that ended badly.I know how badly John Elway is suffering, sad Edited May 1 by jaab1028 3 Quote

Will be 0% surprised to eventually hear of a bad accident. Same here. We're in a golf community, and there are a lot of kids driving those things. Most of our streets have minor inclines, and I've see those kids rip down the hills right through the stop signs. I've express the same concern as you. I think it's only a matter of time before there's a serious incident that results in injury (or worse). As far as the Elway accident - was the guy standing on the back of the cart where the bags go? I'm not quite understanding the scenario. I can't picture him sitting in the seat, falling out from the side, and hitting his head. If he was standing on the bag carrier, or if there was a rear seat kit, I can see how someone could take a tumble if he wasn't prepared for a sudden acceleration. Regardless, it's a freak accident that I'm sure will haunt Elway for the rest of his life. Quote

Ive only rented them at courses a handful of times, and theyve all been governed to ~10 maybe 15mph, and I know crazy stuff happens but was wondering how the heck this happened. Knowing its Elway ($$$) makes it more likely this one was like yours and pretty quick. I used to take a Ducati up to Superbike Track in Oneonta, so I dont say this lightly... 30mph on a wheelbase that short, with some soft side-walled tires sounds scary as ****. Thats a reallllll bad look if you ask me. I know hes not GM, but hes still on staff up there isnt he? Lay low dude, jimminy crickets So you are correct if you are talking about a traditional golf cart, this one is set up to be street legal, with the appropriate base and tires. seat belts etc... HOWEVER, still scares me so it was I wanna see how fast this thing goes... I did, 31mph... but I dont feel good with anything over 15 - 20 on straight aways, and I am an old lady around turns LOL... There are a few different types, that's why... when they said 5 total on the cart it could have been 2/2/1 or 2/3 depending on the design. ANY rear facing seat propels the rider off the cart if you brake hard or hit the gas hard if you aren't holding onto the cart and even if you are you may lose your grip, simple physics. Look back in our own life at those moments of injury, near injury, near death, they happened so fast and there where things you could of done differently in hindsight, but didn't. Maynard Posted May 1 Posted May 1 This is horrible. I’ve flipped a golf cart a few times, luckily without injury. I wonder what this means for Elway if he was drunk and driving the cart. Jeff was 62 years old. Terrible all around. 1 Quote
