Even more than the '69 Cubs collapse?

Yes, it is.  They were 15.5 games back in July... and 9.5 games back 2 weeks ago, 11 games out on 9/4.  They have won 17 of 19 and Detroit has lost their last 8 games.

Not to mention they lost a starting pitcher and the best closer in baseball to gambling, and also traded their staff ace at the deadline.

Technically a bigger comeback, yes.   But in the context of the way baseball is played now.......not as surprising.   It's hard to stop losing streaks when you can't execute sound fundamental baseball.   Teams are finishing where they were supposed to because of the sheer amount of games played........but the baseball played in between has been like watching a simulation that is out of the control of the teams themselves.  It's been a terrible MLB season.  MLB needs to make some changes.

WC Matchups are set

NL... Reds at Dodgers and Padres at Cubs

AL... Tigers at Indians and Bosox at Yanks

Astro's and Mets eliminated on last day

Tigers/Cleveland will be fun, but to me, Seattle is in the best position in the AL.  They will play the winner and have the pitching to shut them down.  Meanwhile the Yanks have to navigate Crochet and Bello typically gives them trouble.  They are not a slam dunk to beat Boston.  Yanks bats run hot and cold.  I can see them going to the World Series and can also see them getting swept by the Red Sox.  They’d have the bye if they inserted Caballero and benched Volpe after the trade but Volpe has an Italian surname.  If Grisham continues his Brady Anderson season that will help.  I wonder how long before he gets suspended.  It’s obvious.

I’d love for the Reds to beat the Dodgers but can’t see it.  Hunter Greene could make it an interesting start to the series. Cubs/Padres should be the best first round series.  Both flawed teams but with pretty deep lineups and good but not deep pitching.  If games are close the Padres bullpen is nasty but losing Jason Adam really hurt them.  It might be what does them in.  Can the Brewers maintain the regular season consistency in the playoffs?  I think they have a shot if Woodruff is healthy enough to pitch.  Priester’s surprising season helped them.

I think the most likely WS matchup is Seattle vs. Philly but can see practically any combo that does not include the Tigers, Guards or Reds…..but I love what they did this year.  Whatever it ends up as : NL team > AL team.

Padres advancing in the MLB playoffs would be HUGE.  I have a best friend with 1/2 season tickets. Knowing someone in the stands  that is so invested  will be fun for me. She is as diehard for Padres as I am for the Bills. I hope they go all the way

I would love to see it. San Diego loves their Padres. The city will erupt if they should advance.

Go Padres!

My son is a big fan and I kind of adopted them as my NL team.

Its the best atmosphere in baseball.  For that alone I want them to advance.  The world deserves an LA/san diego nlcs

I agree that the SD crowd is always fun.  I love watching them at home.

The world only deserves SD/LA is if SD wins.  I’ve had enough of LA.

Mason Miller struck out the first 8 post season batters he faced.  Is that good?  Up 3-0 going to the bottom of the 9th but even if they hold on they burned through a lot of their bullpen today.  Jason Adam would be nice for them to have.

Can Bello beat the Yanks tonight?  I’d lean Yankees staying alive but I can hope.
