Williams on third down.  Milano against the run and stunt blitzes.

Because teams always run on 1st and 2nd down and always pass on 3rd.

Williams is strongest playing downhill against the run and short passes. Milano is best in coverage. You got it opposite, haha.

Milano is great at everything,  hence being an All Pro.

I want him out there every play.

I love how Dorian plays like his hair is on fire. He’s always running to wherever the ball is. I’d hate to take him off the field.

Expand

He just doesn't always get there.  He's not bad,  but he's pretty average.

I believe with a healthy Milano, we at times could of gone 3 LB look like we did in prior years to deal with first downs and force them to pass on first downs.  Milano is healthy he starts. IF Milano needs to be eased in he will be eased in.  Its still Milano's job

Expand

Who do you take off the field to put Williams as the 3rd LB? Groot? AJ?

Not happening.

Let's not overthink this.

I agree. Milano should play if he is ready to go.

Well, technically it would probably be Taron, but I certainly wouldn't want to take him off the field for any reason.

Maybe we can have a 4-3 package against heavy running teams. I know it sucks to take Taron off the field.

Expand

Maybe Taron can do the safety role Poyer did so well close to line and have Rapp do free safety role.  This way you keep best tacklers on field.

Taron made All Pro, doesn't sound wise to change his position.

NFL, like any sports, is a show-me-what-you-have-done-yesterday league. Milano has not shown us anything for .. I lost count .. games, and he's no spring chicken that you expect growth. I'd love to have a pro-bowl Milano back. But I'll proceed assuming he's not in that form; in other words, I'm not banking my hope on him to put us over the top this year.

I didn't bank any hope on Von Miller helping us last and this season either. But he showed up this year with sacks now so I expect him to be an important piece on 3rd  down pass rush the rest of the season. In fact, him and Rousseau rushing from edges on a must-have 3rd down stop is probably one of the better pair in NFL in my view.

Many of the great linebackers played well into their late 30s

It's a snap count.  Pitch count is for baseball.

Williams is not playing great,  he's been adequate.

Milano has sat out enough,  get him in there.  He's a dynamic player whereas Williams is not.  Bernard is a dynamic player, and you see the impact that linebackers can have on a game. Big sack and game ending interception this week.  Can't wait to see Milano out there.

This is a huge addition to the defense.

You knew what I meant with pitch count and I’ve been using that expression in this context for forty years and you’re the first person with the need to define it. Milano has missed the better part of his 2nd contract with different injuries and most of that due to his balls to the wall physical style. He is injury prone and you have no idea what his condition is after sitting out for a year and a half. No training camp or real game action and you want to throw him into high leverage games as the starting OLB.  A measured approach is the way to go with him.

What a nice issue to have. You have the younger player that hasn't been perfect...but has been really good. Far better than he was last year. Then a former All Pro coming back.

If I'm the Bills, I don't feel the need to rush Milano back. And when he is back...ease him in. Low snap counts and situation specific. The the kid handle the bulk of the work and slowly ramp Milano up for January.

Dorian is not a good blitzer...he easily gets caught up in the wash just like Edmunds.  Milano always seems to select the right seam.

Let Dorian play. Have Milano back for December/January. Need Milano/Bernard for playoffs, SB.

Did you ever play high level sports growing up and have to come back from injury?

It takes time for you to get back mentally.  There is no way I would sit him when he is healthy and just expect he will be great by practicing in season.  The guy needs to play as much as possible over these next six games to be his best version come playoffs.

The good news is that he has been able to run and work out his legs throughout, but it will definitely be a mental adjustment to wear off the rust. My guess is he looks slow for the first 4 games or so, and people will be wondering if he is done, then we will see him looking a lot more like himself weeks 17 and 18 hopefully just in time for the playoffs.

the snap count will need to be against the Lions on that horrible turf. Bring him back - for the Rams game to let him get some reps and be on the field. snap count him against the Lions.

I'd love to have him debut at home where he will have all the facilities to rehab after the game and not have to fly but we will see.

Don't play him against SF?

Again,  let's not over think this.  It sounds like he'll be ready for the 49'ers game. If he is,  play him.

I know we've had bad luck in Detroit,  but the Lions play there all the time and they're not breaking down.

I hate that we have a late-season game on that goddamn turf.

sam laporta has been beaten up a bunch on that turf, and others miss time.

i'd not worry about giving him a lot against SF.

i had mistook the lions after the niners, so yeah, go ahead and let him do a few against the niners, snap count against the rams, and start him against the lions.

i don't know who we practice squad, though.

He's had 4 extra months to strengthen/heal his leg,  and a torn bicep shouldn't be an issue coming back from.

If his leg is 100%, let him loose.

But it's it because of the turf? I don't know.

Maybe we'll at least avoid wrist injuries there.
