BuffaloBill
https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/rooney-rule-placed-under-legal-171136325.html The NFL’s “Rooney Rule” is being challenged in court. Knowing the nature of this topic is likely to be a political lightening rod, I am immediately moving it to PPP. The redirecting link will briefly sit on the main page as this is an important NFL topic. Enjoy the exchange.

17islongenough
I get what the intent is. However it does seem like a slap in the face to people who are interviewed in some cases. Look at the Bills OC job. It was pretty much Bradys job but they still had to interview 2 minority candidates. Everyone knew they didn't have a shot.

Chaos
Its never been clear to me what the baseline expecation of what coaching staffs should "look like" America - if "equity" 50% women head coaches, with a commensurate number of Asian and Hispanic coaches? NFL player base. Being an NFL player does not obviously make for a better NFL coach. People who coach football - ie the universe of high school, college and NFL coaches who make educational and career decisions to focus on coaching rather than playing or something else (think Sean McDermott, MIke Tomlin among many others in this group) Separately is it assumed that everyone regardless of race/color/creed/gender ethinticy is exactly equally likely to have the same coaching capabilities? Clearly the NFL does not believe this when it comes to players. If it is not true for players why would it be true for coaches?

The EEOC typically issues a right to sue letter then cases like this move to court. Even where they do not issue the letter, the case may still be moved forward. stuvian
The Rooney Rule mandates interview quotas, not hiring quotas. I don't see how you can challenge that. This lawsuit is just a dog whistle for the election. I favour keeping the Rooney rule awhile longer but not indefinitely. I don't know that we would have discovered great leaders like Dungy, Caldwell, Edwards, Tomlin and Bowles absent the rule. The challenge today is not overt racial bias but the fact that todays' rules favour offensive coaches. Most black coaches are defense oriented. Some of which was a direct result of past bias from the era of white only QBs. Warren Moon's best years were spent in Canada when he was graded on par with Joe Montana by the 49ers. He went north because he didn't think he'd get a fair shot as a starter in the NFL. College QBs Tony Dungy and Marlon Brisco were advised to change positions as pros to fully realize their "athletic potential". It wasn't that long ago that Jackie Harris and Doug Williams received death threats when they were starting NFL QBs. Then there was Bill Polian's cringeworthy advice for Lamar Jackson to switch to WR. We can rest assured that the merit principle is still in place by the fact that Eric Bienemy has not been offered a head coaching job. We should keep the Rooney rule unless it becomes irrelevant.

The KKK agrees with this 100% You don’t fight racism with more racism…so while “Anti-Racists” aren’t the whole problem, they certainly are a major part of the problem, as their ideology, unfortunately, now governs most of our institutions… And you’re right about the KKK agreeing with them, because both groups are extremist groups, that believe in discrimination and segregation of the races…👍
