Bills Training Camp tickets

it's really too bad that this is what it has come to.  the only reason i ended up going last year, (couldn't get tickets) was because i was given 4 through a corporate tent on the very last day of camp.  my kids are old enough to start to get into it, but my god was that place packed.  it felt like they couldn't have fit another person if they wanted to.  even to get autographs it was 6-7 kids deep at the fence.  i hadn't been in a few years, but i don't remember it being that kind of a scene.

That's the price of success.  And players like Josh, Diggs (before he gets traded, that is) and Von.

I remember when I was a kid, the Bills would hold free training camp practices at various high schools. They practiced on my high school field in Rochester and it was such a memorable experience. Went around getting all those great 80s/90s player autographs.

they did that as recent as the 90s?  what school?  i never went to a camp in fredonia, so i never really had the close up experience.  when the camp first opened in rochester, it was definitely a bit more loose, and i would randomly run into players just going back a forth to practice.  I had a nice back and forth with george wilson on year as we just walking towards the field.

the only two times i've had close up interactions with any bills have been at the jim kelly football camp when it was at st. bonna, and when we won a saturday practice walkthrough at an auction.  i specifically lofton being there, bruce not practicing but standing around in a fur coat, and steve christie being super excited to sign anything, (i think it was his first year).

that was at fairport high school— probably around 1987. I think they went to other high schools too— must have been some promotional thing.

Yep, I remember same.... Fairport in '87, Gates-Chili in '88.  (I went to Penfield, graduated '87.)  Part of their "regionalization" strategy that became needless after they moved to Fisher.  Easy in and out, easy access to players.  These were actually post-draft minicamps if I remember right (not during training camp), and soon after that (i.e., when they got good and a high school could no longer accommodate the crowd) they decided to hold public minicamp practices only at the Ralph.  That was fun but you were separated from the players and autographs, if you're into that kind of thing, were difficult.

In '88 I got to chat a bit with Dean Cain, who was in camp as a UDFA.  He was a senior and I was a freshman at the same college (we were on break before finals).  I think he was one of the replacement players that fall before hurting his knee and moving on to Hollywood.

I do remember at one of them, Jim Kelly signed my placard and his signature was HUGE.  I moved over to the defensive side and Fred Smerlas took a look and said, "Hey Bruce.  Look at this," pointing at Kelly's signature.  Bruce looked at it, rolled his eyes, and said, "The whole page, huh?"  🤣

To those of you selling super inflated camp tickets on stub hub, ***** you all you greedy bastards!!

Also, F you to those who grab the max number of tix, and then don’t end up going because…

A - It may rain

B - It is too hot

C - It is too cold

D - They were free, and I changed my mind and didn’t bother going.
