Does Anyone Know Anything At All About the Coming "Artificial Intelligence" Revolution?

Recommended Posts

Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s locations will roll out automated drive-thru ordering nationwide using Presto’s artificial intelligence software.

The partnership with CKE Restaurants, the parent of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, is the largest launch to date for Presto Voice — which is already used at Del Taco and Checkers & Rally’s restaurants. The technology’s adoption at the burger chains is also the biggest rollout for automated drive-thru ordering across the restaurant industry, according to Presto interim CEO Krishna Gupta.

Together, Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s have about 2,800 restaurants across 44 U.S. states. Hardee’s locations are mostly in the Midwest and South, while Carl’s Jr. restaurants are found in the West. CKE’s revenue rose 10.2% last year to $646.3 million, according to franchise disclosure documents.

facts. and probably a lot of other jobs where the current folks think it would never affect them.

I could imagine banking/investment/wall street going full automated/AI at some point.

R&D?  Accounting?

Between automation and AI, thing will change a lot.

Since 70% of the US economy depends on consumer spending the effect over time will be large.  Previous job automation cycles hurt factory workers as robotics were employed in repetitive manufacturing and assembly tasks.  From what I've read many white collar, low and middle management tasks, will be taken over by AI applications.  Which means the middle class will not escape this next wave of automaton of work functions.  The problem this creates for workers is obvious but it also creates issues for providers of goods and services because robots and AI applications don't buy what they sell.

I wonder how our politicians would react if we made AI take over their responsibilities? I’m sure there would be serious pushback from the joe bidens of politicians who make a lifelong career out of it.
As long as it’s the lower class citizens being replaced, it’s all good. Right?

True story…I actually knew Mr Karcher. He passed away quite a few years ago. He and his brother ran Carl’s Jr back then, even before it merged with Hardee’s.

As AI becomes more ubiquitous, the White House Thursday promised it would release guidelines for use by government agencies.

AI developers are also expected to agree to have their products reviewed at the upcoming DEF CON cybersecurity conference in August.

Funding for the proposed research hubs will come from the National Science Foundation and will bring the total number of AI research institutes to 25 across the country.

The White House announced it would invest $140 million to create seven artificial intelligence research hubs and released new guidance on AI.

The developments come ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris’s meeting with executives from Google’s parent company Alphabet, Anthropic, Microsoft and OpenAI Thursday.

It’s part of the Biden administration’s aim to curtail security risks associated with AI as the technology rapidly develops and to impress on pioneering companies that they can help reduce harm early on. OpenAI is the creator of the widely used AI tool, ChatGPT — bolstered by an investment from Microsoft. Anthropic is another leading startup.

What are people gonna do?  Puts us one step closer to Player Piano (Kurt Vonnegut).

If it's like all things tech it's over hyped and won't do all they say it does.

The real crazy part to me is it scours the internet for its answers.  How accurate can that be with all the BS on the internet?

Democrat seeks to regulate AI-generated campaign ads after GOP video depicts dystopian Biden victory in 2024

A House Democrat proposed legislation this week that would require political campaign ads to make it clear to viewers when generative artificial intelligence is used to produce video or images in those ads, an idea that is a response to an AI-generated ad against President Biden that was released last week.

"The upcoming 2024 election cycle will be the first time in U.S. history where AI generated content will be used in political ads by campaigns, parties, and Super PACs," she said. "Unfortunately, our current laws have not kept pace with the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies."
