this is just a season to see if he can come back from the ACL injury.  If he comes back strong, then they sign him.   pretty standard approach.

It is amazing how folks on this board do so little research b4 they post.   OP appears to have no knowledge of the injury?

I live in the DC area and Chase Young is a monster if healthy.

I feel like he's a bit of a 1 trick pony... money better spent on sweat.  They already extended Payne and Allen who are probably the best interior tandem in the league.

I'm curious to see what the commanders do at QB though, as I think their roster is honestly pretty good.  NFC and AFC east are gonna beat each other up this year.

Rousseau has more sacks in two years tha. Young in three.

I just remember Buffalo having a lot of problems with Payne and Allen bleeding through the a gap, and Young flying up field creating an easy lane for Josh to just move to his right.

Then just goes to show you how much of a crapshoot the draft really is

Everybody thought the time does that guy was going to be so good

Also shows that a lot of NFL players —even young ones—who get ACL injuries are never the same. There seems to be a belief here that guys who tear their ACLs are automatically going to be the same player after a year on the shelf, through the miracle of modern medicine.

4 forced fumbles, 4 passes defensed, AP defensive rookie of the year, a bunch of tackles for loss … come on. He was legit excellent in his rookie season, as his 14 AV attests. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/Y/YounCh04.htm

The knock is that he has no pass rush repertoire.    Combination of opponent scouting and some diminshed skill from injury has turned him into a base end with bad habits.

Watching him against the Bills he was a joke.  Same wide rush every time getting pushed completely out of the play.  All name no game.

How you you make such a statement when you have no idea what the situation is? The Commanders are a terrible organization and they are being sold as well.

Fast forward 10 months and this board will have a 259 page thread dedicated on how and why we need to get him.

why wait?

To be fair, Rousseau didn't miss time and have to work his way back from an ACL tear.

I know.  Young is way more talented than Rousseau.    Injuries suck and can be hard for players to come back from emotionally if they add up.   I get why the commanders made the chose they made.

I think you maybe using a bit of hyperbole ProcessTruster.  I don't think Chase Young was quite as good as his hype when he was healthy.  He was good but not quite a monster.  Ohio State has put out some real good DE's unfortunately.  (I am Maize and Blue all day everyday.)  But I don't put Young on the level of Nick Bosa.
