South African study suggests Omicron less severe even for unvaccinated

Unvaccinated people infected with the Omicron variant of coronavirus may be less prone to severe illness and requiring hospital care or dying than was the case with previous variants, a South African study showed on Friday.

So now we’re not freaking out over the flu but a bad cold.  I’ve had several friends and clients get sick recently and they all say the same thing. It’s like a bad cold.

Everyone’s tired of it. This has become a messaging disaster for the Biden administration. I cannot believe these buffoons haven’t pivoted by now.

They’re stuck on stupid and can’t change if they wanted.

Well there’s something going on here. In every line of work SOMEONE would get canned. If you remember during the Trump years the media jackals would opine for hours about whether Trump was going to fire this person or that person. Where are those questions now?

Be sick of government's overreach and fearmongering.  This is a perfect example of it.

So your friends, who are clearly not paying attention if they feel the elderly are not susceptible to Covid, mean we should give up our rights? Covid is a big threat to those over 70, especially those with comorbidities, but that is not the case for younger healthy people.

That's a arrogant response. See clearly you have lack of leadership issues. Welcome to the ignore list .

Wow...

Europe's loud, rule-breaking unvaccinated minority are falling out of society

Before Covid-19, Nicolas Rimoldi had never attended a protest.

But somewhere along the pandemic's long and tortuous road, which saw his native Switzerland imposing first one lockdown, then another, and finally introducing vaccination certificates, Rimoldi decided he had had enough.

Now he leads Mass-Voll, one of Europe's largest youth-orientated anti-vaccine passport groups.

Because he has chosen not to get vaccinated, student and part-time supermarket cashier Rimoldi is – for now, at least – locked out of much of public life. Without a vaccine certificate, he can no longer complete his degree or work in a grocery store. He is barred from eating in restaurants, attending concerts or going to the gym.

"People without a certificate like me, we're not a part of society anymore," he said. "We're excluded. We're like less valuable humans."

As the pandemic has moved into its third year, and the Omicron variant has sparked a new wave of cases, governments around the world are still grappling with the challenge of bringing the virus under control. Vaccines, one of the most powerful weapons in their armories, have been available for a year but a small, vocal minority of people – such as Rimoldi – will not take them. (Oh my God!!)

Faced with lingering pockets of vaccine hesitancy, or outright refusal, many nations are imposing ever stricter rules and restrictions on unvaccinated people, effectively making their lives more difficult in an effort to convince them to get their shots.

In doing so, they are testing the boundary between public health and civil liberties – and heightening tensions between those who are vaccinated and those who are not.

"We will not allow a tiny minority of unhinged extremists to impose its will on our entire society," Germany's new Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, said last month, targeting the violent fringes of the anti-vaccine movement.

Austria imposed Europe's first lockdown for the unvaccinated and is scheduled to introduce mandatory shots from February 1.

Germany has banned unvaccinated people from most areas of public life, and the country's Health Minister, Karl Lauterbach, warned in December that: "without mandatory vaccination I do not see us managing further waves in the long term."

I am actually wondering if anyone can defend the vaccine mandate now that we know for a fact that the vaccine does not stop the spread at all? Especially with children? What DC is doing is immoral.

of coarse they won't. it would be a admittance. the government and all the people they believed this whole time are still spouting the need for the same segragation and authoritarianism. if they come to the understanding that the vaccine does not stop omicron. read into how less deadly omicron varient is regardless. listened to the many scientist that predicted this trajectory of the virus as this is how viruses evolve, they might come to the conclusion we ALL will catch this eventually.

if they look in the mirror and realize this then the enemy they rallied against ( the filthy unvaxed who need to be removed from society) no longer exist. whos left to blame? it may lead some to wonder if this enemy ever did. so why are they still being told they exist? by the same "experts" "trusted media sources" and of coarse government officials that have been looking out for their best interest the whole time. what else were they being lied to about and what else did they advocate for based on this information?

no, they will stay the course and not shatter that virtuous self image they have constructed. as people catch it regardless of vax status or not and herd immunity is achieved. the numbers will go down. at this point they will declare that thankfully for them and the great leadership provided society is finally turning the corner in spite of "the others". awards will be given and a new standards of living will be set because its the only way to keep the virus at bay. you dont want to be the cause of a resurgence...do you? you dont want to go back to 2020, so do as your told.
