Trump wasn’t an idiot. He was a smug arrogant uniformed egotistical maniacal example of why the less government control we have, the better.

He floated the idea of people injecting bleach to protect us against a virus.

Hannity: "America is at a crossroads".

How long can this guy go with the same routine?  Now I know why he's not a stand-up comedian, because his shtick would be pummeled with unfettered spoiled vegetables.  Ted Cruz is unleashing the "socialism" rant.  Ted, please tell me one socialist principle Biden mentioned?

Then back to Hannity:  "pack courts"-  Biden pretty much already said no

Back to Cruz: "break the filibuster"-Pelosi said no

Do people like being lied to nightly?  I think they do.

SENATOR TIM SCOTT:

“Our best future will not come from Washington schemes or Socialist dreams.”

They're buildiing up Scott, but believe me there's nothing there.  He's the Republicans Elizabeth Warren.  DeSantis is Bernie Sanders.  Trump is their guy.  He'll mop up anyone in the primaries.  Scott just makes it easier if he draws votes from the others

ROGER KIMBALL: The mendacity of Joe Biden’s address to Congress: Biden is here to bring us MAPA: ‘Make America Poor Again.’

“The word ‘jobs’ occurred nearly 50 times in tonight’s address.

But here’s an embarrassing fact. Donald Trump’s economic policies led to the lowest general unemployment in decades. They led to the lowest minority unemployment in our history. They also led to a robust rise in wages at the lower end of the scale. Joe did not mention any of that.

Instead it was all Bernie Sanders-esque class warfare: raise taxes, eat the rich, take control of — well, everything.”

They’ll turn us all into beggars ’cause they’re easier to please.

Joe, “Drop the ‘united’ shtick. You’re the most divisive president of my lifetime.”

His idea was we went from sharecroppers to politcal pawns, so I don't care about statistics or wealth divide.  Let's pretend we can relive the Reagan days.

Did you both miss the fact that Biden has the most jobs increase first 100 days EVER DURING  a pandemic?  If your going to claim Trump did good with jobs, why aren't they doing the same for Biden.  Roger Kimball wants it BOTH ways.  Lousy journalism

I would also accept a personal bet of $500 that Roger Kimball calls every democratic president for the rest of his life the worst president of his life.  I'll bet you $2000 he said it with Obama w/o even Googling.  I'm that sure.

If you give all the money to the rich, what's their incentive??????????????   Well, obviously they get uber greedy, and that creates jobs???? They claim that capitalism is about incentives.  Well, if I put a guy on a beach with a blonde and 10 million bananas, what's his incentive to want more bananas?????????  There's something about power that us average people just don't understand.  It's the only answer why old senators and CEO's rich beyond belief need MOAR!  If your goal of praying is going to heaven, then surely your goal of working is to retire and enjoy yourself.  That sounds very logical to me.

"I can report to the nation: America is on the move again," he said. "Turning peril into possibility. Crisis into opportunity. Setback into strength."

While the ceremonial setting of the Capitol was the same as usual, the visual images were unlike any previous presidential address. Members of Congress wore masks and were seated apart because of pandemic restrictions.

Then no, it isn't "on the move again" depending on what you mean by that Joe, please do not *report* that.

So long as that paragraphs remains a way of life, literally everything you say is pointless.

But yes, you absolutely turned crisis into opportunity.  No doubt about the design and execution.  China sends its regards.

Both speakers represented their positions fairly well.  Biden has the Democratic approach of more expansive government, Scott the Republican view of less expansive government.  The one thing I wish would have been brought up is the size of the national debt.  Biden’s increased spending will add to it, Scott’s party and their tax cuts made it bigger, and meanwhile China owns a lot of our debt and our country.  That is dangerous.  Also, thank God neither talked about the idiot culture war crap.

I liked Scott, but his problem is that he espoused traditional Republican views for a party that has abandoned such and has decided Trumpism is their way forward.  If they party is smart they’ll listen to what Scott said. But they won’t; McCarthy afterward talked about us not eating hamburgers even though he knows it’s a total lie.  Independents like me are sick of that crap.  We were last November which is why Trump lost.

Do people like being lied to nightly?  I think they do.

Joe Biden is nearly 80, Many of the people who voted for him have patents and grandparents who recognized the challenges of Biden For Prez, laughed at him and rejected him for president when he ran.  He was a well known buffoon—confrontational, thin skinned, a gaffe machine, prone to making racist comments, but likable enough with his Scranton tough guy shtick to stay around.

Those parents and grandparents were imperfect, they bought into the legislation that disproportionately targeted black Americans, the racist tendencies of a Biden could be laughed off with a wink and a nod, but those were the days when rushing to file for bankruptcy because you were undisciplined with a credit card came with a healthy amount of shame, when most folks didn’t believe you could buy a $30 an hour on a $15 an hour paycheck, and if you were lucky enough to go to colleges do secured loans to do so, you weren’t looking for someone else to save you from your excess.

The problem is many of those people are no longer with us, and their kids and grandkids are often dumb as crap.  They long ago surrendered (or never had) the work ethic the country was built on, prefer easy money and are absolutely comfortable playing the victim and having their bills and financial obligations outsourced to those smart enough to figure out how to pay their bills on their own.

If your problem with Hannity is that he’s repetitive, misleading and says thing that aren’t true, following the Biden model, Hannity will thrive until at least age 80.

That sounds pretty fair. I didn’t hear McCarthy afterwards.

Every time I hear Joe and see these policies finally being passed, I always think of what Obama must think. Why is all of this so easy for Joe and they fought me on every little thing?

Is it race, or is it just a unique time in history, or is it both?

What? Who fought Obama? His own party? He was in the same position as Joe. And....what legislation has been passed? He’s put in place a bunch of executive orders, but actual legislation? Not so much.
