We might be able to make solid additions using the bet minimum. These guys want to play for contenders. This is something that is always brought up with certain teams, and we are one of those teams now.

I agree on the general sentiment... probably with some solid-good players . Peterson is past being elite, but i still think he can fetch good $.  Its more likely to be players like Tomlinson and his talent level i think well be able to add from the low salary caps this year.  a few guys like that could really change the team

I agree with Tomlinson.  He could very well change the dynamic of our D.  I’d love to land him and maybe Carlos Basham in the draft. Preferably a DT addition + an edge pass rush addition

Romeo Okwara from Det would be a fun pairing with Hughes on the other side too.  I think we need to address DE with FA instead of the draft if possible

Re-sign Levi Wallace, AND lets not forget about Dane Jackson who looked pretty decent in his rookie season this year. And Taron Johnson made plays as well. I dont think we need to add much there in outside Free Agents.

Not interested in over-priced vets who are at the tail end of their career, unless it is a position in the trenches. And even then, I'm only half interested.

Our Defensive Backfield is fine how it is. We need help up front.

Standing pat with Jackson/Wallace/Johnson won't help much.

I think Dane Jackson will win the #2 spot and we'll keep Levi as the Nickel. No expensive vets.

Think Levis lacks the quickness to be a slot corner. I actually think a more interesting plan would be to use Levi as your boundary corner, Dane as your field corner, and Tre as your slot corner.

Help what much? The DB unit doesnt need help. The Front 7 does. Improving the Front 7 helps the DBs. Get a pass rush.

hmmmmmmmm i dunno, but thats interesting. im definitely unsure of it, but good post.  could definitely see that happening against certain teams. might be wasteful of tres abilities against other teams

Yeah that’s my thought.....but then you could look at it like it can help our run game or DL, as the resources that we’d be allocating to adding a new corner could be used to hell bolster another area we need to improve.

there’s no one way to become a champion, but improving the pass rush is up there on every teams priority list.

Keys to success imo-

1- Franchise Qb

2. Elite pass rush

bypassing on corner might alllow us to get ngakoue or another impact pass rusher that can improve our pass rush. This is dependent on McBeanes confidence in Dane (and Levi, maybe cam too).  I’m a Dane fan personally and would love to skip on corner this year in order to focus our assets on the pass rush and run game/OL

I suspect Peterson as a free agent is more likely to end up bolstering the secondary of a team that stands in the way of a Bills SB win than ending up in Buffalo.   Quality veteran UFA's who might take a discount to chase rings in KC and Tampa are not good news for Buffalo.   I suspect the Bills will try to get out in front of competing for a ring chasing impact veteran by trading something for them rather than have it become a choice of Mahomes, Brady.......or Allen.   Allen is an elite QB but given the choice you can expect players to believe more in the guys with the rings.

I don't agree with that at all.   This is going to be a year of tons of discounts due to the cap and Buffalo is a hot up and coming team that has a chance at the ring as well.  Plus the reputation of Buffalo and it's culture is another appealing aspect that will help attract Free Agents.    Beane is going to earn his money this year, I'd expect them to be very active and I think when it's all said and done Buffalo will have added a couple well-known players on 1-2 year deals.

You are not wrong there. And not sure that's even "imo" as much as it is proven fact at this point.

Whether looking at last nights Super Bowl, or going all the way back to when the Wild Card Giants beat the undefeated Pats in 2008 due to being able to get to Brady with just their 4 DL. It is a MUST to win Championships. And probably the biggest thing we were missing this year.

Improve the Front 7, especially on the DL, and our DBs instantly get better. Throw money at the DBs, and our Front 7 still sucks.

Sucks is a strong word. Hughes, Oliver, and both backers are all plus players. Star is going to be another good one. AJE, with a good off season, has potential to be above average. Oliver especially has superstar potential if we ever get him back playing primarily 1T, and he has someone next to him to keep the double/triples off him.

This team DID go 13 - 3, and they pretty much destroyed the Ravens & Steelers' OLine.

And the team that will be in the way every year laughed at our pass rush and run defense and embarrassed us in 2 games this season.  Yet that team was completely dominated by a 4 man wrecking crew pass rush.

Levi Wallace is the perfect #2 CB for the Bills.

The perfect #2 cb for the bills would be someone better and cheaper.

but I do think Levi could be the guy for another year or 2.  I have higher hopes that Dane can take it from him this year.

Sure it does.

And sure, a pass rush would help  CBs (those are depth guys). But  it would be easier to upgrade at one position (CB) than to retool the front 7.

I expect them to as well but they might have to make trades to get the guys they really want.......because I think that the other top contenders will have the same idea in mind.    I think KC, Tampa, Green Bay and maybe even the LA Rams will have first dibs on the ring chaser types.   Bills and Ravens likely second tier.

Example:  JJ Watt.  Checks the boxes Beane wants......big and physical and still a solid pass rusher.

From Wisconsin,  has been used to living in a warmer climate like Tampa where the GOAT plays,  has lost to Mahomes in the playoffs despite a 24-0 lead and could really set up his next career even more if he were stationed in LA.   You really think the Bills get first dibs on him if he is a free agent willing to take less to get that ring?

Easier, but far less effective overall. If all you are looking for is easy, then go for it. I hope Beane is smarter than that tho.

That might be wishful thinking.  32 year old who hasn't played in over a year and sat around this past season at home.
