National Spotlight - Face it Buffalo is not much of a story

I've not started a single thread prior to today or linked a national thread.  I've commented on many.

But we do know Bills fans are much smart (you in particular) then the rubes who are in the national spotlight.

How can a team stop everything the Bills do so easily and turn Allen into a game manager?????  Sounds like McD talking.

Here we go again, manage the clock, play within the 20's and don't make mistakes.

If they come out trying to establish the run and time possession.....  Ughhhhhhh

The Bills are playing the worst defense in the NFL this week,  No excuses to not sling it & put up 35+....

Yeah I know, but that is what teams are doing.  Cover 2 zone takes away the easy crossing stuff Josh was hitting a month ago.  It just does.   Plus a LB is spying him, so he can't run bc everyone is in zone watching him.  So you quick pitch the ball to the outside, run the edges to take advantage of a 5 man secondary backing up at the snap.   Boring as dirt, yes.  But it works, especially in crap weather.    Take your shots when the pull up to the line.   Becomes very tactical.    Very cat and mouse.   The Chiefs can dictate given their overwhelming talent on offense, but they are about it.

The goal is the win the game.   Whatever it takes to get that win, ugly or pretty to watch.

Buffalo will not gain national respect unless they make a deep run in the playoffs. In addition to this Josh Allen has to play more consistently at a high level.

The emergence of of a problematic team in South Florida (Miami) also plays into the Bills losing luster. The Bills are not the underdog anymore. Miami now sits in that role in the AFCE. Underdogs make for better press.

Agreed, but Allen playing at a super high level would be enough like Lamar last year and the 1st month of this year.

Instead he's fallen off a cliff.

And playing two terrible defenses the next two weeks.

I am not that smart, but good offenses are able to consistently put up #'s regardless of the opposition & the Bills were not playing elite defenses the past four weeks and failed for the most part.

Again I blame that on McD & the coaches.

Refuse to accept that.  It's the coaches that hjave let him down.

They were after week 4, but now not so much as people for the most part are meh about a 6-2 team that has not played well the past four weeks.

I wish it was different, but it is what it is.

Look at the stories going on.....

WIlson and the 6-1 Seahwaks, Pitt undefeated, KC being KC, TB  & TB, Brees and what exactly are the Saints, NYJ (ha ha ha), Dallas (what a disaster), Rodgers regressing, Baltimore and has the league figured out Lamar, Arizona & is Kyler a star, Burrow, Herbert........

I want the Bills in thew spotlight and hope that changes the next two weeks.

Why do we have to be a constant story?  We are 6-2 which is a nice record.  But our defense especially the front 7 is not solid and gives up a lot of yards against the run.  We will see where we stand after the next month against tough competition.  If we can win some big games, we will get some positive talk.  Its a long season w 32 teams.  There are not constant big time stories every week in any season of any league.  Enjoy the games for what they are and the football season as a whole.  When December comes around, hopefully we are in the playoff talk as contenders.  Thats all that matters.

So when he did well did you give the coaches credit and not Allen or only when he doesn't do well?

No I said I was very happy & turning the corner on McD.  The last 4 weeks I've seen a regression and the old McD, that I've railed on continually.

To keep coming up with excuses that others have figured the Bills out, says one of two things.

1.  The staff (& McD) have not adapted (seen this too often in the third quarters over the past years).

2. Josh Allen is not the answer.

I hope it is #1, or the Bills are in trouble.

I don't know in both the Tenn and KC game the Bills set out to stop one thing, Henry running and KC passing and they did, but then Tenn passing and KC running hurt them.  Not sure Lamar passing could do that much damage?

I don’t  think they could stop the Ravens /Lamar from running all over them.  They didn’t really stop the Chiefs as much as the Chiefs didn’t even have to try to do anything but run.  The Titans put up 42 points, soooo I’m not taking that as a success.

We are similar to Seattle.  Even with Russell on fire, the hawks have squeaked out quite a few games this year.

Explosive qb play, fun to watch create, used to have a great defense but don't have much of a D at all in 2020.  We are giving up 25 a game, they're giving up 28.

The difference is they pay their QB $30M and we pay ours $5M.  We are in the magic window of QB on a rookie deal before they crush your cap.   Happened to GB, Detroit, Seattle and will kill the Chiefs defense soon enough.

I'm less concerned with national spotlight than I am with getting linebacker play worthy of a championship run.  It's clear already that lack of depth at LB is a huge problem and it may be too late to fix it.  Wondering if Sean and Frasier can switch to a hybrid D at this point like the Pats ran against us.

There just hasn't been much highlight-reel material from Josh Allen the past few weeks. I think the sports media would like to hype the Bills more - it's a good enough story, but there have been more exciting things going on lately. You don't get attention when you win ugly.

Based on the games played and the results of those games, I can't disagree with you.

However, I do think the Bills are better than what they've shown.  All teams have to overcome injuries, but the Bills have been missing some key players on offense and defense; and it appears that our defensive superstar (White) is playing more than just a little dinged up.

But ... again ... dominant teams overcome.  The regular season is only half over and there is time for Beane to add a piece or two, as well as time for the coaching staff to make some mid-season adjustments (i.e. - stop abandoning what's working).

Mostly, it's on the players to execute.  Josh needs to be more consistent.  Receivers need to be more consistent.  The defense needs to do better and get some takeaways.

It's not too late to become ready for Prime Time.

As unlikely as it is, they can start with beating a very tough Seattle team.

Go Bills!

Seattle 39

Bills 17

I'm having fun picturing Josh in the pre-game huddle like, "Everyone do their job today and we'll get this win.  You're one out of eleven.  What kind of man are you going to be today?  And remember I don't want to see us any lower than 5 in the power rankings this week.  Don't just win, win by enough to get national attention.  I wanna hear Mike Greenberg talking about me for MVP on the radio tomorrow."

So Buffalo......  No player on the Bills wants to be recognized on a national stage?

No I picture Josh in the huddle "Guy's let's get 2 first downs & then we can punt and keep this game in the teens for Coach McD...... Break!"

This was exactly some US players' mentality coming to the NBA and being traded (or drafted) by the Toronto Raptors and then bemoaning the fact that they weren't mentioned on ESPN.

Surprisingly that changed quickly as the Raptors became one of the top teams in the NBA and got more & more National Press.  Doesn't hurt either that Toronto is a great city with outstanding entertainment district, downtown & nightlife (Pre-Covid-19).

Oh & Allen wants to throw for 400, Diggs have 180 yards receiving.......  Singletary & Moss would too be thrilled with 75 yards rushing & another 50 receiving too.....

Players want to be recognized beyond Hamburg or West Seneca.....😜

Agreed. Both teams have vastly different strengths and weaknesses, but both feel similar when watching their games.

We ARE a GOOD team. The problem plaguing Bills fans and this board is that after 20 years of bad football and watching the Patriots dominate, our fans think you need to play PERFECT football in order to win. That isnt the case.

I dont even know if they are a "good" team....maybe a good offensive team but their defense is terrible. They got their arses handed to them on National TV two weeks in a row and barely beat two teams with two combined wins. They dont deserve the spotlight because they can handle the spotlight

It's just not going to play out that way, not with McDermott as HC. It will either be a blowout loss or a messy low scoring loss with ugly mistakes by both teams.

Can't see the Seahawks scoring less then 28, thus the Bills will score more on just as bad a defense.

Yup im not that excited either they seem to be treading mediocrity rather than getting better.....the first 4 weeks were great.... D sucked BUT the o could score with ANYONE in the league weeks 1-4... now the D STILL sucks..and the O can barely outscore the WORST teams in the league....Id be much more excited if you could flip flop weeks 14- and 5-8 id be super excited if they started out the year going 2-2 and looking bad then all of a sudden in week 5,6,7,8 they were scoring like they did games 1-4 30+ a week....

At this point im hoping they win want them to win but my optimism and  positivity is just not there.... hopefully they can flip some switch and get to that point where they are closer to weeks 1-4 rather than the last 4 weeks..hell id take a middle ground of 25 points and the D playing better,  Go Bills good luck!
