Jordan Phillips - put my stats this year against anybody - I'm a top 3 DT

Whether those interested parties are reading his tweets doesn't alter the reality that players promote themselves through social media. He is communicating in the same fashion as almost all of his peers are doing. I agree with you that he is not a top three interior lineman. But what did you him expect to  say and do? Make a case against himself? You may be surprised that he is maximizing/exaggerating his talents now that he is a free agent but I'm not. When promoting oneself modesty  usually isn't the best tactic

It serves no practical purpose.  No one who matters will be influenced by it.  So it's just plain old boasting.  Why bother?

Boasting through social media is the way of the world whether you like it or not. He is promoting himself and his claim to a big contract like almost everyone else does in his profession.

No one could deny that.  So I'm not.

But he thinks he's influencing someone that matters.  He's not, that's all I'm saying.

To be fair what he said was in response to an article saying the Bills shouldn’t re-sign him.

Oh, wow, I hate those questions.  I’m not good at this stuff.  I think they knew they overpaid for Star because they kind of had to then.

8-10M I think, but the devil is always in the details - how much guaranteed, how many years, what kind of bonuses or incentives

8-10. If that.

Same guess here

Interesting you all are saying $8-10M.  If that's what Beane is thinking, J. Phillips is probably gone since it sounds like he wants well above $10M.

I also didn't think he was that bad in rush defense and thought the Buffalo Rumblings article was a bit harsh when referring to him as skates.

I haven't read that article, but I think that pretty much sums up his ability as a run defender. He's specialist, and a good one, but nothing more. For the top 3 money he seems to be asking for, it's out of the question.

He is not listed as a top 100 free agent. Shaq is number 84. There are DTs ahead of him one of whom the bills may sign as an upgrade. I don't see Phillips getting paid much above his value though he did have a good year sack wise. Most of his sacks the qb stepped up in the pocket because of outside pressure and stepped into his waiting arms

If teams game planned against him like he was a topped 3 DT, it would be an embarrassment. Sure he is nice depth and ended up with some decent stats but did he ever have a major impact on the outcome of a game?? I'm going to say half of those sacks he was the second man in on the play, or a result of great coverage. Nothing wrong with that but hardly a player to spend big money on..

I would think he will find out what he is worth in free agency and then see if the Bills can match. I do hope Phillips and Shaq stay if the price works.

I’d like to see the band stay together, we shall see...

This notion needs to be put to bed.  The Bills did not have a bad run defense this year.  The Bills finished with the #10 ranked run defense in ypg.  They were a top 10 defense in almost every metric that matters.  I don't think you can say a top 10 performance sucks.

Yeah begrudgingly I am here.  I don't see Buffalo breaking the bank for him.  Maybe the market won't be what he thought it was and he will be back but I doubt it.  His numbers are eye popping for the position.  He finished 11th in the league in sacks for any position, 2nd at his position behind Aaron Donald playing way less snaps, someone is going to pay for that.  I hope it isn't a rival or really anyone in the AFC lol.

On the year I agree it didn't suck but it went from a top 2 run defense and it took a while and signing Liuget to start to straighten it out.

What Phillips's performance demonstrated is that this coaching staff knew how to put a player who was released by one team and put him in a position to succeed. He's not a top 3 type of player but for us he was certainly a stalwart on the line. Getting a lineman who can give you interior pressure is a major asset. Wherever he ultimately ends up I have to give the player credit for increasing his value by his consistently good performances.

I do see better options. But I agree if he stays in his value range he should be re-signed. He goes into the 12M and higher range let him walk.

Agreed, he represents an overachiever that was rewarded. Naturally,  there's a realistic limit to whether it makes business sense.

We're covered.

Wasn’t Phillips rotating with Star Lotulelei?  He’s a 1-tech DT, not a 3-tech like Jordan Phillips.

And we hope Horrible Harry will fulfill his promise this season, but the fact is, he’s yet to show he can make it through a season playing more than 30-40% of the snaps.

Judging by how little clapping and clap-back we saw on social media this season, it seems pretty evident that McDermott has laid it down hard he does not want to see that.  “Tune out the noise”.  But it’s off-season now, and I can’t blame a guy for hitting back against an article panning him.  I wish he wouldn’t feel the need - Buffalo Rumblings is essentially a fan outfit, like a glammed up version of this board, right?  But Hey, it’s the Off Season.

We are both on the same wave length on this issue. Whether one likes the dueling responses coming from social media it is the way of the world, although not part of my world. To his credit Phillips played well for the Bills and was a mainstay player on the line for us. And to his credit Phillips and his teammates in general followed the recommendation of the HC of not allowing oneself to be distracted by the distractors. The culture that this regime has created has influenced him and his teammates. To a great extent the coach is selective in the type of person/player that he wants on his team. And to a large extent that selective personnel approached has worked out well.

I am not interested in any player that uses social Media at contract time.

The last Bill that did this was Marcell Dareus

My thoughts exactly.  If you have to tell everyone how much you are worth then obviously you know your worth is not noticeable.

I’m not denying him the credit for upping his game, becoming a better player, and making 9 1/2 sacks along the way this past season. I’m not disrespecting him at all. I’m simply pointing out that in order to justify being paid like a Darnold, Cox, or Akins, he needs to perform like them. He doesn’t. Simple as that.

For instance this is what you get from Spain:
