Bills (3-0) vs Bengals (0-3) Postgame thread

I'm usually not one to support the naysayers but I feel it's warranted right now.  It's realistic at this point.  Allen proved it with that STUPID pick today.  Atrocious!  He just cannot, absolute cannot do that anymore.   I think we all sense this could be very powerful offense if they can put together a complete game without turnovers.  We gotta remember that JA is still extremely raw though.  Realistically we may not see a ton of success this season as he still has so much more to learn that he didn't get a chance to in college.

Is it just me, or are they pass-happy in the 1st half building up points and runs mainly go up-the-gut then in the 2nd half, when they have Singletary, they start mixing up run plays with those beautifully blocked off-tackle and outside runs?  It's a brilliant plan if you can execute it THE ENTIRE GAME, which they are clearly not able to do yet.  It's kinda sorta keeping it on the pedal, if they can execute.  Get the opposing defense on it's heals with the passing game first, the demoralize then and break their spirit with a  dynamic run game to close it out.  We saw what it can do in the 2nd half of the Jets game.

I don't know.  Maybe just wishful thinking.  I do feel like getting in a bunch of passing out of the gate is at least building experience for Allen much more rapidly than establishing the run game first which works but is also pretty boring unless they're breaking off 30 yard runs all day.

Definitely stinking up the join BIG TIME in 3rd quarters so far.  You have to think it's due in some part to defenses making half-time adjustments.  Again, maybe wishful thinking.  Something is definitely not working after the half and it sucks the life out of games that should be high scoring.

The only thing I'd add is that running the ball in the 2nd half seems to be working or at least it did this game. It was frustrating getting to their 45 yard line only to stall once we started passing more.

Well, it hasn’t been playcalling imo. They’ve simply had poor execution and definitely issues with pass protection. Bottom line, this team isn’t a finished product. They truly don’t have a consistent , reliable running game to lean on and the passing game needs another weapon. Allen has been trying to force things in each game thus far, and it has cost them with turnovers and stalled drives. This looks like a team that could win 7 games or could in ten if things fall their way. They still have a lotto work on. Lost in all this is that special teams still seems shaky as well.

You're nuts if you think 7 is a possibility.

This game is like "what color dress?" Everyone sees something different.

Agreed. My take is if this was our early season “egg” offensively, wow the future looks bright—this was the type of game we would absolutely have lost in previous years—instead, just like game 1, we overcame the mistakes exactly when absolutely needed most, and show immense confidence/grit by doing so. Pretty? No. Ugly? At times, but as the cliche goes, style points count for nothing, wins and losses do. I expect maximum effort against the Pats, and hopefully we have Singletary back for that game...

And yet he made enough great plays when it counted, to overcome and deliver the W. Let the kid play and I think we end up with more good than bad, usually

I sincerely hope Daboll has some really great stuff up his sleeve for the Pats.  If they don't, BB will eat Allen alive again this year.

I disagree. It’s a possibility, as we’ve seen in past years. We don’t know what this team can do against a team that actually has a winning record yet. They have quite a few weaknesses right now. It’s the NFL, so you’re nuts if you think it’s not a possibility. So many things can happen between now and week 17.

Yeah he really seems unflappable and never, ever gives up.  Overcoming a lot of bad stuff already shows his grit and lets us keep hope alive on day s like today.

They're sweeping the fish and jets. That's 6.

So, you choose to dig in with your nonsense?

Please.  Everyone is happy the team is 3-0.  Anyone who doesn't see warts is not watching the games. They have, for whatever reason, had long periods of ineffectiveness in each game.  The first 3 quarters vs. the jets was trash in terms of cashing in drives. The third quarter today was ugly. So, pointing out that they have come out after halftime flat is accurate.

Well the good news is we play few teams with winning records.

That’s a fair point and will likely be helpful. However, I’m still not sure what this team is capable of and what it isn’t. I’ll take the wins to be sure, but there are problems. We’ll see if they can overcome them.

I'm confused by the Bills RB strategy. I thought it was a "go with the hot hand" type approach, but Gore was averaging 6 yards per carry but he's not getting the rock. Instead they are running the QB, McKenzie, Yeldon. Can Gore just not carry the ball 25 times if needed? If that's the case then they need another option besides Yeldon so that they don't have to run Allen and the WRs so much.

Well prepare yourself now for the fact that they will lose some games.
