Here’s a question fior you: Would you rather attend a Super Bowl, or sit in the war room for a draft?

I’ve been to a Bills SB, and it was great. But I would LOVE to sit in on a draft, see their board and what it’s like behind the scenes. The draft would be my choice.

I went to 3 of the 4 Super Bowls. It would be real cool to be in the war room!! I can watch the next Bills SB game on tv ? I would choose to be in the draft room

For 2018 a number of teams paid big bucks for mediocre offensive linemen, or linemen that played poorly. Sporting News mentions Nate Solder, Ryan Jensen, and Andrew Norwell, for whom the Giants, Jags, and Bucs paid big prices in free agency, only to have them play poorly.

Good o-linemen are hard to find in trade or free agency, and their price is often inflated well past their ability. My friend who is a Bengals fan told me before the season that Bodine was the worst center he had ever seen, and the Bills thought he was going to solve their problem. That's one reason I hated when the Bills gave away Cordy Glenn--teams spend years trying to get a good left tackle and we just sold him away.

The Bills knew exactly the caliber of middling player they were getting when they signed Bodine. And he garnered a contract commensurate with his very average talents. It has to be remembered that Woods's career ended after a post season physical indicated that he had to retire from the game. That was a surprise to him and the organization. So the Bills signed a veteran center who provided a reasonable short-term replacement. His contract is far from being onerous and its duration was very short-term with a relatively cheap out after the first year. Considering that he started this was a cheap contract. This was a case where you seek the best option available when there are few options.

The attached link indicate what his contract is and the cap implication.:

Were you impressed by his thoroughly mediocre season in the amazing Conference USA?

His 2018 wasn't that much of a decline when you adjust for the fact that he missed 4 games although he didn't take the leap a lot of people expected. I don't know about Oliver. It seems like he went from potential 1st overall pick and lock top 5 pick to being farther down due to concerns about his ability to be a 3 down player. People going into 2018 were thinking that he could be like Aaron Donald but now its seeming like he is a high risk high reward pick as the doubts are a serious concern.

I actually wouldn't mind the Bills taking him at 9 because the pass rush and youth along the D-line is lacking (Outside of Shaq and Phillips who are far from great players there is mostly vets along the D-line.) With Star and Phillips being bigger players more effective against the run (and I think you can sign Jordan Phillips to bolster the rotation) I think you can afford to take a chance on a high end pass rush specialist. Oliver could be a passing down player along side J.Phillips and Henry and Star could do the early down dirty work.

54 tackles, 14.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 2 PD, 1 FF in 8 games is thoroughly mediocre? K

It does not strike me as particularly good, no.  In his senior year at Pitt, Aaron Donald (the guy some have tried to compare Oliver to) had 28 TFL and 11 sacks, against better competition.

There is nothing “generational” about Oliver; he is an over-hyped bust-in-waiting.  I will not be at all surprised if he’s available at 9 and I’ll be very unhappy if we pick him.

#1 recruit out of High School and dominated his competition for 3 years. He's not Aaron Donald. No one is. He doesn't finish as well as Aaron Donald and his hand work needs improving but he's going to be a great player.

Last year, I knew were taking a QB with our first pick.

This year, I really think it's wide open.  I could see pass rusher, DT, WR, TE or interior OL as our first pick.

Aaron Donald right now is playing like one of the greatest of all time at his position.  He is that good and that unstoppable.  Just because Oliver isn't Donald doesn't mean he's not good.

Cornelius Bennett wasn't mediocre because he wasn't at the level of Bruce Smith.

And despite his incredible production at Pitt, Donald lasted until the 14th pick.  I don’t understand why Oliver is being hyped as a top 3 pick.  I think he’s going to drop like a stone.

I think what Donald has done in the NFL has made Oliver more of a prospect.  Donald fell because he was an undersized DT....just like Oliver.

I think teams will start not putting as much emphasis on size....just my 2 cents.

Donald had (and has) a relentlessness and love of the game that I don’t see in Oliver.  In the two games i watched this year, he was nearly invisible.  I guess we’ll find out...

Based on the perceived top-heaviness of this draft is it relates to defensive linemen, that's what I'm expecting the Bills to take. If they don't trade down and Jonah Williams isn't on the board (both very real possibilities), they should take the best 3T or edge rusher on the board. The draft history of the men making the decisions for the Bills support this likelihood, too.

The thing that a lot of Bills fans won't acknowledge is that 3T has actually become a pretty big need for the Bills after Kyle's retirement.

Yes, it seems like they plan to re-sign Jordan Phillips. He's not a guy I want to entrust to be a full time starting 3T in McDermott's defense, though.

Having a good 3T is CRUCIAL to the success of this defensive scheme.

It's a top need now, there's no doubt about it.

They drafted Harrison Phillips in the 3rd round and he had a year of great mentoring.  If he can't be productive, that's an issue with the coaching staff.

Well that was utter insanity at the time.  I have no clue how he lasted past the top 8...I remember thinking at the time I'd have quite the conundrum if both he and Mike Evans were on the board at 9.

He's not a 3T. He can play there from time to time, but that's not what they drafted him to be. That's not his skillset.

What the heck?

3t are the guys who have the freedom to be able to get to the backfield to disrupt the RB or sack the QB.

Phillips had 27 tackle for losses and 14.5 sacks his last 2 years at Stanford.

He is a 3t, he isn't a 0 or 1t.

Yep, I thought Donald would be the pick at 9, if we stayed there. Just too good to pass up.
