Biggest Shaw Lawson contribution in career was his fight with Fournette!

Lawson has played well this year and seems to have learned what it takes to be a pro.  Two things though:

1. I would not kick Trent Murphy to the curb - his effort and talent are high level, only injuries have held him back.

2. While still too early to declare Lawson fully “there”,

2a. Fans are WAY too fast to judge young players.  MANY here wanted to run Lawson out of town.

2b. Lawson appears to have “gotten it”, but we need to see at least another year of good performance before we agree that he has turned a corner.

By far the most annoying thing that occurs on this site. All just to be right. Who cares?

Agreed, for perspective, those impatient folks would have run the following stars out of town:

OJ Simpson failed to gain more than 750 yards in his first 3 seasons, yet ran for 2000 in the next season- in 14 games (vs today’s 16)

Troy Aikman in his first 3 seasons threw for 31 TDS vs 46 INTS.

Steve Young had 11 TDS and 21 INTS in his first 2 seasons.

A little closer to home, check out:

Eric Moulds averaged 25 catches and 1 TD in his first 2 years.

Bruce Smith had 6.5 sacks his first year.

Yep.  I remember during 1987 the talk was Bruce Smith was a waste of a number 1 overall pick and we should have drafted Ray Childress (DL) who went to the Oilers.  Ironically, during the SB years Childress was available to us via trade.  Maybe he would have been a difference maker against Dallas?

Do you think he stays? Personally, I hope we don't bring him back at anything exceeding 4.5M/per.

Shaq is under the last year of his rookie contract in 2019, they could also option him for 2020 but I am not sure they will do it as a 5th year option is usually expensive.

So I think Shaq is here for at least one more season.

Ah, my bad. I thought he was already in his 4th and they declined his option. Then my answer changes to Decline the 5th year, because he's not worth that, and see what happens next year. I think there's a pretty close to zero chance he blows up into a star player, but he'll be a contributing rotational player.

I just loved seeing the fire from Shaq and the team.  Wish we saw it last year when Gronk assaulted Tre White.  Or when Landry cheap-shotted A Williams.

Shaq really got them fired up..And they didnt fold like sissies afterwards like those games

I think they decline the option too. But if the option is reasonable and Shaq finishes the year strong I wouldn't rule it out.

Just shy of $10.3M

They might pick it up, hard to say since DEs get paid big time and 10.3 isn't a lot too pay for a starting caliber DE. But Shaq at this moment isn't worth 10.3, you would be picking that up on speculation.

Then again they might just want to see how 2019 plays out and at worst franchise him.

Shaq got ejected in the 3rd quarter because he can’t control his rage...then had to be restrained again in the tunnel on his way to the locker room.

He had a bad day and Coach does not like guys who is over emotional.

This could’ve been the nail.

Ummm... You couldn't be more wrong.

Did you hear Mc D say in the post game presser that he loved the fact that Shaq defended his teammate.

I’m sure he’ll review the tape and make another conclusion. He was NOT defending his teammate, that much is very obvious.

What was he doing in the tunnel?  He had to be held back by 4 large men because of his out of control rage.

Not a good look for Lawson.

Right... the nail?  I'm sure anyone would take that bet. Not even a remote chance.

You're 100% wrong about this. McDermott was very clear in his presser that he wants the players to defend themselves. He wasn't just spouting coach speak. If anything I think this raised his opinion of Shaq.

I was embarrassed for him watching on tv.

Shaq blindsided C. Hyde #34 and Fournette defended.

Ill wait until Coach reviews the film.
