Agreed, for perspective, those impatient folks would have run the following stars out of town: OJ Simpson failed to gain more than 750 yards in his first 3 seasons, yet ran for 2000 in the next season- in 14 games (vs today’s 16) Troy Aikman in his first 3 seasons threw for 31 TDS vs 46 INTS. Steve Young had 11 TDS and 21 INTS in his first 2 seasons. A little closer to home, check out: Eric Moulds averaged 25 catches and 1 TD in his first 2 years. Yep. I remember during 1987 the talk was Bruce Smith was a waste of a number 1 overall pick and we should have drafted Ray Childress (DL) who went to the Oilers. Shaq is under the last year of his rookie contract in 2019, they could also option him for 2020 but I am not sure they will do it as a 5th year option is usually expensive. Then my answer changes to Decline the 5th year, because he's not worth that, and see what happens next year. But Shaq at this moment isn't worth 10.3, you would be picking that up on speculation. Then again they might just want to see how 2019 plays out and at worst franchise him. You're 100% wrong about this. McDermott was very clear in his presser that he wants the players to defend themselves. He wasn't just spouting coach speak.
