I post something similar every week after these losses. This season was never gonna be good. Last year was very fun making the playoffs, but it was also very flukey (the fumble by Matt Ryan against Atlanta, the Colts game, the Dalton pass etc)

While I don't agree with every decision McBean have made since they were hired, they've also been a bit handcuffed by the dead cap money. I'll say it again, if we're sitting here a year from now in the same boat, then yes, fire McDermott, but this season was truly a "hit the reset button' year. McDermott and beane knew this, hence beane not wanting to give up a single draft pick in 19 to move up in the draft in 18. Don't fool yourselves, McDermott absolutely knew how bad we'd be this year. That doesn't mean they're not trying to win though. We have 9 games left and I expect alot more of what we've seen so far. Hopefully we can pull out a few wins and have a few good weeks, but don't hold.your breath

Good post.  It’s so hard for fans of this team, including me, to accept an all-in rebuild after all we have been through.  But that’s what this is, and it’s by design.

Everything is set up for this offseason.  They have to make all the right moves.  But I have to believe better days lie ahead.

Nonsense. They created most of the dead cap by choice.

I guess if you make moves that bring your team to the absolute bottom of the league, selling better days ahead gets a lot easier.

They created the dead cap.

So if a coach is a good coach shouldnt he be better than 3-10 in games were his defense creates less than 2 TOs?

True, and I don't agree with all the players they let go, but they want to build this team they way they want, not with a prior gm's players

While I agree with the OP insofar as I did not expect a repeat (or improvement) of last year, being “bad” is one thing. Being completely noncompetitive is another. Repeated blowouts, a historically bad offense, and coach who, frankly, is starting to sound insulting with his responses to questions are not acceptable (or “expected”) and NO ONE should be defending this.

i don't know if McD knew how bad the team would be this year.

enter into evidence the absolute incompetence of him and his GM. And, how they handled the QB situation for starters.

I read right here that Beane went after Anderson during the off season. And he said no thanks. Fast forword to now, and what

BS it must have taken to get him too sign.  A grade A scrub.

The extra draft picks in 19 for the most part are late rounders. How have they been hitting on them so far? This was McD's second draft.

We’ll see how it works out.  Maybe they don’t know what they’re doing.

I’m also a baseball fan, and I think baseball fans are more used to the concept of sucking to eventually be good.

Their problem is not dead cap money. Their problem is their ability to judge talent.

You're giving McDermott and Beane too much credit.  Our continuing string of low priced coaches and GMs exemplifies the old adage "You get what you pay for."

Yep it is. After today.

1-6 when they force zero turnovers

2-4 when they force 1 turnover

yes they did. they got rid of talented players that did not fit what they wanted to do. they brought in guys that they thought would fit their culture rebuild. and they drafted players they want to go forward with. i have no problem with any of this, even the horrible record and damn near unwatchable football. i just wish i had faith in the vision of their football team going forward. this offense is horrendous, and i think they need to dedicate at least 75% of their resources to that side of the ball in the offseason. i just have this horrible feeling that the coach's vision is about running the ball and playing tough defense.

It can work in baseball. The playing field for obtaining players isn’t a level one by design, but you can win with a bunch of young stars at one time. You’ll never keep it together long, but you can win a Championship that way. It doesn’t work in football though. It’s an easier leap from avaerage to good than from awful.

What exactly is it that “they want to do”?

They truly have to. I know Bosa and Oliver are the popular choices with a heavy D draft next year but we have to go all in on Offense.

i am going to say that the "what they want to do" is about scheme fit, attitude, and work ethic. we all know the big name guys they got rid of and the reasons behind the moves. they are looking for guys that are all in on the team aspect.

if they are in a position to draft one of those studs, i want them to trade down with some old, stodgy GM that is firmly planted in the 1980's and get a few extra picks to supplement our anemic offense. we need offensive skill players as well as linemen. in the draft and in free agency we need to pick up offensive talent early and often!
