What are the Bills Saying about the Bolts?

On Philip Rivers…
“(I) have a lot of respect for Philip. I’ve gone against him a number of times. (He’s a) future Hall of Fame quarterback and very smart in terms of what he does before the snap, which most quarterbacks are – the good ones. They’ve got a high-powered offense as you saw, and we’ve got a lot of respect for them.” – Head Coach Sean McDermott

On Chargers defense…
“This is a really good defense that we’re facing, so we can’t take them lightly. They’re going to be ready come Sunday, too.” – QB Josh Allen

On Chargers secondary…
“They’re a talented group. They do a good job and I thought they played well last week against Kansas City. We’ll just have to be on our A-game.” – Head Coach Sean McDermott

Here are five keys to the game heading into Sunday’s game between the Chargers and the Bills.

1.  Jolt Josh – The Chargers face a relative unknown at quarterback for the second-straight week after Buffalo named seventh-overall pick Josh Allen their new starter.

2. Marked Improvement on the Money Down – A trademark of the Chargers’ offense in recent seasons has been their ability to move the chains on third down.

3. Shut Down Shady – LeSean McCoy had an off day in the Bills’ debut, running just seven times for 22 yards while catching one pass that went for negative yardage.

4. Beware of Speedy Secondary – Philip Rivers has seen all types of secondaries in his Hall of Fame career, and he noted how fast Buffalo’s defensive backs play the game.

Bills 'table-slamming' violators may be charged

Fans tailgating at Buffalo Bills games this season could face criminal charges or be ejected for "table-slamming," a practice of jumping into and breaking plastic folding tables that has been popularized in recent seasons by viral videos on social media.

The Bills and the Erie County, New York sheriff's office have made it a point of emphasis to police table-slamming this season, although rules against the activity have already existed as part of the team's code of fan conduct at New Era Field.

It’s no secret. The best way to rattle a rookie quarterback, especially one making his first NFL start, is to apply constant pressure, as the Chargers did last Nov. 19 when they harassed Nathan Peterman into a five-interception first half in a 54-24 blowout of Buffalo in StubHub Center.

The Chargers will face another young and relatively untested Bills quarterback in Buffalo’s New Era Field on Sunday when they line up against Josh Allen, the former Wyoming gun-slinger who replaced the struggling Peterman in last Sunday’s 47-3 loss to Baltimore and was named the starter for Week 2.

“As we’ve seen on film, he’s a guy who gets a little nervous under pressure,” Chargers defensive back Desmond King said of Allen, the seventh overall pick in April’s draft. “And once he feels pressure he likes to scramble.”

This can present another problem for the Chargers. The 6-foot-5, 237-pound Allen is quick, elusive and strong, as he showed when he escaped the grasp of Terrell Suggs, the Ravens’ 265-pound Pro-Bowl linebacker, on one run Sunday.

Josh Allen: The most important of five Buffalo Bills to watch

When the Buffalo Bills traded up in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft to select Wyoming’s Josh Allen, we knew it was only a matter of time before the athletically gifted, but very raw prospect began starting games for the team. After Nathan Peterman laid an egg in Week 1, the time for Allen is now.

Head coach Sean McDermott named Allen his starting quarterback for the Bills’ home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. The rookie will be one among many players Bills fans will watch this weekend, but he will tower above the rest in terms of importance.

Here are our five Bills to watch this week.

Week 2 NFL score predictions: A guide to best games, more

Point spread: LAC -7.5 | Matchup quality: 25.9 (of 100)

Eric D. Williams' pick: The Chargers face the Bills for the second consecutive year, with Buffalo's quarterback -- rookie first-round pick Josh Allen -- making his first NFL start. The Bills hope Allen's debut does not go as badly as last season, when Nathan Peterman threw five interceptions in the first half of his debut. The Chargers are the better team and hungry for their first win after a humbling defeat to the Chiefs at home in their season opener last week. The Chargers have defeated the Bills in their past three meetings. Chargers 27, Bills 20

Mike Rodak's pick: Joey Bosa, who pressured or hit Peterman on all five of his interceptions last season, will not play Sunday. Neither will Eric Wood and Richie Incognito, the Bills' two best offensive linemen from last season's game, who both retired. With Allen making his first career start, the Chargers still have the advantage. Chargers 27, Bills 17

FPI win projection: LAC, 70 percent. It didn't take long for the Bills to hand the reins to Allen. FPI sees Allen as a substantial improvement over Peterman. Had Buffalo stuck with Peterman, FPI would have given the Bills a less than 20 percent chance to win.

PFT’s Week Two picks

Chargers at Bills

MDS’s take: You could look at the Bills one of two ways: “This team sucks so Nathan Peterman has to be benched,” or “This team sucks so they’d be crazy to throw Josh Allen to the wolves.” Either way, the Bills lose.

MDS’s pick: Chargers 30, Bills 14.

Florio’s take: Poor Josh Allen.

Florio’s pick: Chargers 27, Bills 10.

CHARGERS AT BILLS

With rookie QB Josh Allen starting behind the league’s worst interior O-line and with one of its worst receiving corps, Buffalo’s D must hold the Chargers to under 20 to have any chance. It’s important they be ready for running back Melvin Gordon outside. Last week 12 of Gordon’s 24 touches, and 76 of his 166 total yards, came on the perimeter, where he can best showcase his swift long strides and much-improved balance.

welp, here we are again. Watching and hoping. Buddy was predicting score. I said i would not watch if there was  no chance of a win.

and who doesn't want to see Josh survive the game relatively unscathed , healthy and maybe even make some plays we can cheer about ?

No Nathan Peterman? No problem, as Chargers prepare for rookie Josh Allen

Eric D. Williams ESPN Staff Writer

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- After recording five interceptions against Nathan Peterman last year, you could understand why the Los Angeles Chargers' defense looked forward to another opportunity to face the University of Pittsburgh product, right?

Wrong, according to Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman.

"It doesn't matter who they've got back there," Perryman said of the Buffalo Bills. "It's another week, another team. I get to redeem myself from last week and try to go 1-0 this week."

Instead, the Chargers have to contain an athletic quarterback with mobility in rookie first-round draft pick Josh Allen, who is making his first NFL start. Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced this week that Allen will get the nod over Peterman.

Four early working theories heading into Week 2

It's not too early to say that ... the Bills royally messed up their quarterback room

On Sept. 1, the Bills traded AJ McCarron to the Raiders. The move happened on the same day the Raiders sent Khalil Mack to the Bears, so a relatively minor transaction involving a backup quarterback barely moved the needle. But even in the moment, it seemed like a curious move by the Bills. Buffalo had signed McCarron in March and drafted Josh Allen a month later. The generally-held understanding was that Allen was a raw prospect who would greatly benefit from a redshirt year -- or something close to it. With McCarron and Nathan Peterman on the roster, Buffalo would be able to protect and groom their prized first-round pick during his rookie season.

But the decision to trade McCarron changed the dynamic. Suddenly, there was a lot of pressure on Nathan Peterman to be competent ... and Nathan Peterman had already showed signs that competency wasn't really his thing. Sure enough, Peterman cratered against the Ravens last Sunday. (Going forward, a 0.0 passer rating will be called a Peterman.) After the 47-3 loss, coach Sean McDermott -- clearly backed into a corner -- announced that Allen would start in Week 2 against the Chargers. So much for the rookie cocoon of security. McDermott told the media this week he'd go to his grave feeling it was the right decision to start Peterman. But can he say the same about trading McCarron, the team's only other safety net to protect the kid? None of this feels like it will end well.

Three Matchups to Watch on Defense: Bills vs. Chargers

After looking at the three top matchups to watch on the offensive side of the ball, it’s time to consider the challenges the Bills will face on defense. The Chargers are coming into town with a potent offense featuring a handful of really talented players. Here are my choices for the three most important matchups to keep an eye on:

CB Tre’Davious White vs. WR Keenan Allen
Bills LBs vs. Chargers RBs
Bills DL vs Chargers OL

Buffalo Bills vs. Los Angeles Chargers: Preview and predictions

Sal Maiorana, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle

Whether he’s ready or not, Josh Allen’s NFL career begins in earnest Sunday afternoon at sold-out New Era Field.

Bills coach Sean McDermott made the obvious decision this week to bench Nathan Peterman in favor of the No. 7 overall draft pick, and while it’s not ideal given that Allen probably isn’t going to be fully functional at this stage, it’s — as McDermott said over and over and over again — the “right move.”

Here’s my preview of the game:

Three ...

1. Can the Bills get their running game established?
2. Will Allen be overwhelmed by the moment?
3. Is the Bills defense as porous as it looked in Baltimore?

MY PICK: Chargers 24, Bills 10.

Why do I get the feeling that the Bills are going to start Allen, only to revert to a "3 yards and a cloud of dust" strategy?

Joe B: 5 things to watch for in Buffalo Bills vs. Los Angeles Chargers (9/15/18)

(WKBW) - After a lackluster debut to the 2018 regular season, the Buffalo Bills will return to the field on Sunday for their first home game -- and a pretty significant one at that. When the Bills line up against the Los Angeles Chargers, it will be the first start for the rookie quarterback and seventh-overall selection Josh Allen.

Now with the 47-3 debacle in Baltimore in their past, what might we see in the Bills' upcoming matchup with the Chargers?

Five things to watch for:

1) Josh Allen's debut
2) Kerley's gone, now what?
3) Key to Bills pass rush vs. Chargers: attack the guards
4) Cornerback shakeup?
5) A good Dawkins gauge

Injury Report

Buffalo
OUT: DE Shaq Lawson (hamstring), CB Taron Johnson (shoulder)
QUESTIONABLE: WR Ray-Ray McCloud (knee)

L.A. Chargers
OUT: T Joe Barksdale (knee), DE Joey Bosa (foot), CB Craig Mager (hamstring)
QUESTIONABLE: WR Travis Benjamin (foot)

Prediction: Chargers over Bills
- While I think that the Bills are going to show up a lot more than they did in Week One -- and really, how couldn't they with how poorly they showed in Baltimore -- I cannot pick the Bills to win until they show legitimate improvement in several areas. The offense needs to show some signs of life, in which Josh Allen could provide a spark, and the pass rush needs to show that they can get to the quarterback. As for this matchup, I think Phillip Rivers still has a lot of game to him, and Keenan Allen has all the potential to dominate the game. Playing at home will undoubtedly be a benefit for the Bills on Sunday, but the Chargers are still an incredibly talented group that has the potential to win this game by double digits.
