If I had to guess, it’s because the goalie made a play in the puck?

I think that Dahlin touched it though as it bounced to Skinner. Looked that way to me. Jones chips at it and it sort of stops and drops. I thought it hit Dahlin, which allowed Skinner to swoop in.

Dahlin is ridiculous. And definitely gaining confidence in rushing the puck with every game. I'm not sure how much is watching him and how much is Housley, but every one of the D are rushing to the net now. Before they would come up along the boards and pinch more. But now they are allow rushing the net from the backside like Beaulieu did tonight and charging the net like Bogo and Risto did. It's so fun to watch, and the forwards are playing smart and covering, for the most part.

Scandella is a third to fourth pairing defenseman. He's a functional defenseman who is good in the room. He serves as a placeholder player until the players in the Rochester pipeline move up the ranks.

We could do worse.  Right now it just seems like everyone is contributing.  Some are doing it loudly like Skinner and some are doing it quietly....I'll name Girgensons but there are several.  I have no complaints about any of them.

Last year Bogo seemed like part of the problem to me.  I was way off.  He is an important cog.

Yep. Girgs and Larsson are both playing very good hockey now. Housley really trusts them.

Housley has done a good job in determining what a player's role is and then getting the player to accept it. As you cited Girgensons and Larsson have embraced their role as checkers and penalty killers.

Bogo is a player who I thought would be a Housley type of defenseman. He can skate and move the puck. That's the embodiment of a Housley defender. The issue has been his inability to stay healthy. I have felt for a long time that it would be in his interest to be less of a banger and more of a skater and puck mover. Without question he still is the muscle in the pairing but for the sake of more durability he needed to adjust his game.

11-27: Jason Botterill with Schopp & the Bulldog on WGR (17:19)

#Sabres GM Jason Botterill talks with Schopp & the Bulldog now live

Botterill - We just went through a difficult 6 games in 9 stretch. It doesn't get any easier. We've been able to stay the course and win tight games. Finding ways to come through in the clutch. #Sabres

Botterill - As we play, some of these top teams like Winnipeg and Tampa, we didn't play a full sixty minutes, but when we did it was our game. Fast. #Sabres

Botterill - Throughout this streak, our goaltending has been exceptional. Coming up with key saves in key times. #Sabres

Botterill - If you start looking at the standings, it's not going to be successful. We lost a game in NY, was one of our best games. Eventually we'll play a solid game and not get the result. So be it. #Sabres

Botterill - Standings will take care of itself.

Botterill on Tage Thompson - He's more aggressive, getting his feet going. Creates a lot of turnovers with his long reach and turns them into scoring chances. He has an absolute rocket. #Sabres

Botterill on Thompson - He's been consistent in shootouts in practice. #Sabres

Botterill on Pilut being up - Scandella is not available tonight. Wanted to have an extra defenseman on the ice. He'll dress for warmup. #Sabres

Botterill on players resting in other sports - The standings here is so tight. Maybe we might see it at the end of the year, but mid-season teams need their top players. #Sabres

Botterill on Pilut - Lawrence's numbers have been spectacular this year. Just wanted to have him get a feel of it up here. Eventually he'll get games up here, for sure. #Sabres

Botterill on Skinner - We'll talk later. It's real fun watching him play right now. It's been a great relationship for both sides so far. #Sabres

Botterill on Skinner - I talk to his agents on a daily basis, because they have a lot of clients. On the contract, we've said we'll talk later in the year. #Sabres

Larry Pilut is knocking on the door as we speak.

Good point about Scandella’s room presence. That’s not a small thing and I can respect him for that. But he’s really struggling. To the point of being a liability. Maybe a couple games up in the box observing will help him find his game again.

What?!? Dahlin!

Love hearing that call after having to listen to the Sharks announcers being oh so disappointed all game.

btw, have they changed the rule about tossing guys out of the circle or was the ref tonight just in the mood to toss and lecure every guy on every faceoff?

Oh, and an FYI -- Sabres have become the first team in NHL history to finish last in the league and then have the outright NHL lead in points after 25 games the following season.

Sort of an obscure stat, but it highlights just how much things have changed for this franchise.

Did celly become a word in the last 10 days?

No. It's been a thing in the hockey world pretty much forever.  Canadian players shorten everything and add "LY" top the end.

I can understand why a Sabres' fan working would ask a question about that word.   We haven't witnessed a real "celly" on the ice in a decade.   My two biggest celebrations since the Briere and Drury debacles were losing the game to Arizona that clinched Eichel and winning the  Dahlin lottery.  I got more joy out of watching fan reactions to Eichel being picked than shooting we've seen hockey-wise.

Until now.
