Enough complaining that Watkins was drafted 4th....

Recommended Posts

For one if OBJ were here him and Tyrod probably would hate each other by now. Remember on passing plays Tyrod don't see most of the field, won't throw the ball unless you're wide open, and can't make all of the throws a normal qb can throw. OBJ would lose his mind here. He's a me first player and playing with Tyrod would not fit his me first attitude. So no OBJ would not excel here with Tyrod. Sammy handled playing here pretty well.

Watkins will do for Geoff what Watkins did for Manuel. He is a very good player. But he is totaly relied upon the qb to get him the ball.

That's just the same for any receiver. You don't catch what's not thrown to you. Or what's thrown at your feet, or 10 to 20yds over your head. And Manuel? Really? Manuel would throw a rock at the ground and miss. OBJ is starting his career with a future hall of fame super bowl winning qb. Sammy was playing with Qb's that probably wouldn't even make a practice squad.

I used Ej Manual because Watkins is playing with Geoff his second year in the league too. Im not a big believer in Geoff and dont think he will have much success. Im not blaming his failures or Ejs as a starting qb on Watkins. Im simply illustrating the effect a dynamic Wr effects the overall success of an offense.

Not only was he drafted 4th, we wasted TWO number 1 picks on the guy and this particular draft class was very deep at WR.

Another epic failure of the front office. No wonder why we haven't made the post season for nearly two decades.

Either Buffalo felt he was not returning next year, or they were not going to invest the kind of money he would command on the open market. Whichever way they felt a most likley high 2nd rd pick and a starting corner is top of the market in value. I have a Watkins jersey I am not thrilled about it, but I understand it as well. The difference in Sammy Watkins to Jordan Matthews and the difference in Ron Darby to EJ Gaines imo is not the difference in a making the playoffs or not or winning the superbowl or not.

Considering the most we could get for Sammy if he left as an UFA was a 3rd round pick gaining a starting caliber CB and a 2nd is more than enough fair value for Watkins based on what he's shown in his early career. Down the road it might prove to be he's worth more because if he can stay healthy he is clearly an above average WR. Yet who's to say that 2nd we get from the Rams won't prove better? I was against the trade to get Watkins when got him as felt we'd best suited to draft Ebron, then when saw Sammy play felt is was fair value yet can also say the trade to Rams was also more than fair. It's because Sammy is a major X factor.

Perhaps, but money, and the likely inability to re-sign him was cited by the boy genious (Beane) as a mitigating factor in their willingness to trade Watkins.

If Sammy is smart, he will spend his one year in LA, and go to a better team.

Sammy is going to seek top WR money. Why would anyone pay him that when he hasnt proved he can be healthy and play a full season?

And let's look at those draft picks Cleveland got..... They used #8 on Justin Gilbert, who was eventually traded for a 6th and released after 2016 by Pittsburgh. BTW they chose Johnny football @ 22.

Then that great Buffalo pick in 2015 is Cameron Erving who I can't find anything on ESPN or Wikipedia......

Proves my point that the draft is a crapshoot.

So yea Cleveland fleeced us.......

No he hasn't lived up to his draft slot. No OB would not be worse in Buffalo, the guy just excels. The only Idiocy is the bills fans repeatedly over hyping and over valuing players just because they were Buffalo Bills.

And why are we still starting threads over a LA Ram?

OBJ...guy who only broke 100 yards 4 times last year despite playing on a team with no run game that throws constantly? Same guy who had 8 games under 73 yards, including 6 under 60 yards? Same guy who dropped multiple easy passes that basically lost games for the Giants? Same guy who has not been the best teammate and throws tantrums? Is that the OBJ you said just excels?

In 2015 when Watkins was healthy for the final 9 games, he outperformed OBJ despite playing with TT in a run first offense instead of with a 2 time SB MVP QB on a team who throws constantly because they can't run. In fact, when healthy, I can't think of a single thing that OBJ actually does better than Sammy outside an occasional highlight reel catch.

Sammy has more consistent hands (OBJ drops too many easy passes, and important easy passes that have cost the Giants games).

Sammy also has an edge as a route runner

Sammy also has an edge in being smart on the field

Sammy has been less drama and a better teammate

OBJ has been on the field more, but has he really been healthier? He has missed less games or played hurt less, but thats mostly because Sammys main injury essentially cost him the entire 2016 season where through the first 14 weeks he either sat or played as a shell of himself. OBJ has had multiple injuries himself, just been fortunate one of them didn't take a season away from him.

What OBJ has an edge in is the insane play and crazy athleticism. But Sammy isn't far behind there whose made his own share of amazing one handed catches and plays himself.

If both were healthy, I would take Sammy over OBJ in a close race. I would also take some other WRs before OBJ too. OBJ is absolutely an amazing young talent, so none of that is meant to paint him as a bad WR by any means. Its more of a testament to the talent of Sammy and some of the real flaws that show with OBJ.

Couldn't this have been put in a watkins thread that exist? 16 of them on last 2 pages

Nope too many to read through, just saw another thread complaining as to where Watkins was drafted.

And to those saying the Bills wouldn't pay him if he was successful the idiocy of that comment defies logic.

No good players in the NFL should be paid money because they will ask for too much. Julio Jones should be on his fourth team now because Atlanta were suckers to pay him.

Then of course there's Tom Brady...... If only Watkins was married to a supermodel making $40,000,000/season (and who loves Buffalo), then maybe he'd have taken a discount.......

Now I get it......

Julio Jones and Sammy Watkins have a similar first 3 years. Only difference is that Atlanta has Matt Ryan, and we had EJ/Orton/Tyrod, and that Atlanta gave Julio the 4th year, and he blew it up.

Buffalo being typical Buffalo said, why would we want to do that? Let's go out and draft a replacement with a 2nd round pick. Cause that makes sense. :wallbash:

I'm not so sure the Giants are gonna pay him. Just a random thought, but the conspirator in me thinks the leaks about the Giants Org being unhappy with him and his entitled attitude are to prep the fans for his departure.

and explaining the trade to non-football draft-obsessed fans.

Yes still pissed and explain to people why Watkins was traded so the new regime can roll the dice on another draft pick and the lunacy.

Yes reading threads and people just refuse to get over the fact Watkins was drafted 4th and that it is somehow his fault.

When healthy and targeted Watkins definitely lived up to the #4 pick (and yes OBJ I'm convinced would be called a bust in Buffalo with the Bills Offensive playbook).

So friends (non Bills or obsessed fans) ask why he was traded and I say the following.

The "Brain trust" (yes sarcasm) refused to extend him for a 5th year based on his injuries and didn't want to keep him since there is no doubt if healthy he is a star and thus the Bills wouldn't pay him.

So the Bills aren't tanking and definitely got worse for 2017 from the trade(s) and as fans we can blissfully hope to hit the jackpot in the draft next year.

The idiocy to me defies logic.

Creates thread "Enough complaining that..."

Proceeds to complain through the entire post.

LOL - you would think these crazy posts would end with Sammy gone, but they keep on coming.

I've responded to so many of the Sammy >>>> OBJ posts I've lost track.

Hilarious that people even try to create that argument, like it's even close.

Timing is part of the problem as you pointed out and gives us Eric Moulds all over again. Great receiver with not enough supporting cast to make the difference.

McD is a Defensive guru so doesn't it make more sense to go elite on D?

Where would you rank sammy as a wide receiver league wide - right now? Not based on potential.

<--------------------------Rams message board that way.

I always like a 2nd team to pull for, nothing compared to the die hard Bills fan in me mind you. Giants used to be that team, but its gotten boring as of late.

Big fan of Woods and even bigger fan of Sammy,

My 2nd team just might be the Rams this season...
