Though I do appreciate you filling in the details for anyone who didn't know the reference.

It wasn't a very good joke.  It was, in fact, a very bad joke.

But it let me demonstrate my command of arcane, useless knowledge.  So it wasn't totally pointless.

Gee, golly gosh, some of us knew about that also. Does that makes us eligible for the Cliff Claven award too?

It's a well known fact that the Italian Navy Ninja Class Battleships which consisted of the Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael never could figure out that thermostat thingy. It's a shame, they were so sleek and dreamy.

Conte di Cavour class.  Good, solid, decent design for its weight, along the ideas of Cuniberti.  After they were rebuilt between the wars, they really were pretty sleek.  You can still see some of their influence on late-Soviet ship design.

Quote

BEIJING —  North Korea issued a $2 million bill for the hospital care of comatose American Otto Warmbier, insisting that a U.S. official sign a pledge to pay it before being allowed to fly the University of Virginia student from Pyongyang in 2017.

The presentation of the invoice — not previously disclosed by U.S. or North Korean officials — was extraordinarily brazen even for a regime known for its aggressive tactics.

But the main U.S. envoy sent to retrieve Warmbier signed an agreement to pay the medical bill on instructions passed down from President Trump, according to two people familiar with the situation. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

The bill went to the Treasury Department, where it remained — unpaid — throughout 2017, the people said. However, it is unclear whether the Trump administration later paid the bill, or whether it came up during preparations for Trump’s two summits with Kim Jong Un.

Trump signs EO pulling America of the UN Small Arms Treaty:

(Just watch the first 1:30 as this repeats a bunch)

In fairness, we were never in the treaty to begin with - the Senate never ratified it.

I am assuming it was an Obama era EO while waiting on the Senate to ratify it? (I could be wrong, but those people seemed pretty excited.)

No, the senate voted on it and rejected it.  Then John Kerry signed it six months later:wallbash:

Get ready for the screaming about "Trump not following the law!" when he is, but Obama never followed it.

If it is Saturday, it must be a yellow vest protest day!

I am shocked, shocked I tell you! that people wouldn't believe Macron's empty "promises".

Unconvinced by Macron's promises, Yellow Vests keep up the pressure

Tens of thousands of Yellow Vest protesters took to the streets for a 24th consecutive Saturday, with many saying the proposals French President Emmanuel Macron announced this week don't go far enough to address the plight of struggling workers.

I sure hope the WH gets this one right. If I remember correctly G W Bush had Chavez removed and it caused a big up roar. "Speak softly and carry a big stick" was a quote originally made because of Venezuela and Germany, I think.

● Violent clashes erupted in the capital, where thousands of protesters swarmed the streets and forces loyal to Maduro responded with force; seven people reported wounded.

● Maduro said the military has remained loyal; government leaders denounced a “coup” attempt by a “reduced group of military officials” and warned of a “counterattack.”

● Guaidó appeared with mentor Leopoldo López, freed from house arrest, urged “nonviolent” action and claimed to have a list of military officials who support him.

● A Guaidó spokesman said there were no plans to advance on the presidential palace; Maduro’s whereabouts were not publicly known.

Roosevelt used that proverb on the campaign trail in 1900.  But the first instance of him using it as a "foreign policy principle" was the Venezuela crisis in 1902.

What's funny is that Tibs is almost correct, but still wrong enough to look like a complete ***** asshat.
