I think the offense is going to struggle mightily in this game.

I expect Gus Bradley to copy Cincinnati's model for defense once Sammy exited the game: double Woods, play interior zone against Clay, and make EJ beat you by getting the ball to Hogan/Gragg/Moore, who will have 1-on-1 match-ups. Rush 4 and sit back.

They'll expect to snuff Buffalo's run game, given that they're allowing only 3.4 YPC, which is 1st in the NFL.

If I were Buffalo, I'd have a game plan in place that relies heavily on throws to TEs and RBs out of the backfield; not screens mind you, quick throws on circle routes, angle routes, etc. Make Jacksonville's bigger, slower LBs keep up with Shady and Boom in the pass game. Force them to back off and/or widen their LBs and then run the ball.

It's probably their only chance, unless EJ somehow morphs into the kind of QB that can beat a defense with his arm, without any help from his targets; that's asking a lot from any QB not named Brady or Rodgers.

Always great contributions

Oh come on! There a ton of people who believe that Marrone "ruined" a young EJ just by whispering the words "don't mess up" to him and by fixing on him with some sort of evil glare.

What if Marrone catches EJ's eye and fixes that glare on him, and mouths those words? I see trouble....

Yeah trouble as in EJ might accidentally hit Marrone in the nuts with the football

Lets not forget here.....there might be a bit of motivation for EJ to beat the jags as well

Why else would he throw the pass into the tent during practice sessions in camp!!!!

Tyrod's backup's motivation is to not be unemployed and out of the league a year from now.

If Tyrod's backup isn't the established starter after this season he won't be here. No point.

Ironically, if he has a great game and the Bills win he might be helping his old pal St. Doug become a head coach again, as the whispers are already starting about Gus Bradley (which is probably exactly why Marrone chose to go there).

I think people will be surprised at how tough the Jaguars are.

Tyrod's backup will keep the game close. How quickly we forget that Tyrod made a LOT of plays in the Miami game to blow that thing open.

Who's forgetting that? This "endless debate" you seem to dread doesn't appear to be happening...anywhere.

Maybe I'm wrong and there is no issue and we won't be hearing about EJ suddenly "having momentum" as the starter for this season. I hope so. I hope you are right, believe me.

I'm still recovering from a combination of 15 freaking years of no playoffs AND watching New England look unstoppable pretty much always and forever.

"EJ starting this week" + "Harvin considering retirement" + "Brady (who looks unstoppable) saying he wants to play 10 more years" has made for a pretty lousy day in my world.

Brady wants to play 10 years; I want perpetual bacon to be a real thing. We don't always get what we want.

Want some good news? There's nothing to fear. You know what happens if this team isn't good? Nothing. We lose. We already know how to handle that; we'll be fine.

You know what happens if this team plays to its potential?

I was probably the most excited person around when Rex was hired.

I was 100% CONVINCED that he would make this team into a powerhouse.

That's my fault, I grant you that. And it still could happen. I'm just frustrated and today was a crappy news day.

at least we aren't the Bears!

@adamjahns: Jeremiah Ratliff was escorted out of Halas Hall on Wed. by #Bears team security. Ratliff had an animated exchange with GM Ryan Pace outside.

Or the Chargers - who have players calling each other out on a daily basis

Bottomless supplies of bacon, perhaps. Perpetual? I do not think that word means what you think it means.
