You might be right, although do you think his roster spot might come at the expense of Gragg or O'Leary? If Mulligan gets cut, would he automatically get another chance? I think Carpenter's hamstring issues tip the balance in favour of the extra kicker. EDIT: also think Stefan Charles is a potential surprise bubble guy - he will make the week 1 roster I am sure cos Marcel doesn't count towards it but whether he makes it beyond that is questionable. Rex is a big fan of Bryant who showed up big again in the scrimmage and I think Carrington brings enough versatility that he makes it ahead of Charles. After much thought, I decided to "put my money where my mouth is," and use my 5,000th post to post my final 53. (2) QB: EJ Manuel, Tyrod Taylor * Yeah, I know....Matt Cassel is starting the first pre-season game. I don't care. IMO...he is not better than EJ or TT, and the thought of him being our starting QB gives me nightmares. Simms to the PS. I know I am going to take a lot of abuse for this. (4) RB: LeSean McCoy, Fred Jackson, Karlos Williams, Boobie Dixon * Bryce Brown fumbles too much. No shocker here to most. (1) FB: Jerome Felton (6) WR: Sammy Watkins, Percy Harvin, Robert Woods, Marcus Easley, Chris Hogan, Marquise Goodwin * I went back and forth between Goodwin and Thigpen about a hundred times here, and I think they keep Goodwin ultimately. I personally would cut Hogan and keep Dezmin Lewis. We are going to be very run heavy and still tossing the ball down field when they start playing aggressive against the run and will toss some deep balls. I just don't see too many balls to go around with 5 WRs (Easley is STs), so to have Hogan as a back ups, back up I would prefer to go with a project with very high upside! We are going to have tough decisions with a quality roster like ours. I don't think Seward or Dezmin Lewis will be able to be stashed on our PS. I also don't think Meeks will make the team, but, another one of the safeties will being Rambo. I can see us going with 6 CBs. But, not sure if it will be Cockrell, Brooks or Butler cut. I think it will be Brooks cut. Congrats on your 5000th post as well! I doubt EJ gets cut outright, as all of his contract is guaranteed. IIRC, however, they could save 4+ million in cap space by releasing Cassel. Anyone know the exact figures? I think Cassel's cap savings is about $4.5 million. And, we take no cap hit as Minnesota already absorbed it. I do believe IF Cassel is the 3rd QB we should cut him and use the money to offset some of Dareus' signing bonus by moving it up a year. He doesn't seem to be a Roman type TE who can block and catch. He's just a lee smith type, correct? I thought he was just a camp body. clay looks great obviously and gray is lining up at the #2 spot. Oleary has a much higher ceiling than Mulligan and very cheap and Gragg has surprised in camp. I figured they would keep those 4. He's a mentor/vet type guy who can compete. But I don't think he makes the team because ultimately I don't see him being a better TE in this system than the others. The inline TE, the split TE, and the H Back TE. He outlined it pretty good. Gray really doesn't play inline. Gragg can but he is not all that great at it although he is willing and getting better. Both can play split and HBack. Clay is the only one that really can play inline of the receiving TE and he can do everything. At times they want the TE to be a blocker. O'Leary can but he is a rookie and not really ready as a blocker. Gray and Gragg are pretty much the same guy, both very athletic and pretty fast and can catch. But they do not fill the inline TE to Romans satisfaction and as long as Clay is in there, you would likely never use both Gray and Gragg, but you would use Gray and Mulligan or Gragg and Mulligan. With the amount of 12 and 22 personnel I've heard and seen from camp, having a guy who can move people like Mulligan is crucial. I think one of them goes and we keep Clay, OLeary, Mulligan and Gray or Gragg. I think I prefer Gray but Gragg has been coming on strong lately and he may have more overall talent at the position although I think Gray is a better athlete. For me Clay, Gray, Mulligan most likely make it with O'Leary and Gragg fighting for the last spot. Preseason hasn't started so plenty of time for O'Leary to flash, I'd still give him the benefit of the doubt as long as he shows something. There was a report earlier in camp (can't remember who so take it with a grain of salt) that he was leaps and bounds better at blocking this year.
