Luka Posted February 24, 2015 Share Posted February 24, 2015 CJ Spiller gets a lot of hate for being one of the most explosive players in the NFL. He's been hampered by injuries and poor O line play. Not to mention the abysmal play calling. He and Watkins were both LETHAL in the screen game at Clemson but I can't recall more than a handful of screens thrown to them all year. He has a chance to be used correctly in a new offense which is what everyone thinks he would excel in if he was with another team. CJ will resign and play elsewhere, because he is not worth the $4M+ he's asking for. If CJ could be had for $2M, he'd be signed already. Wasting a 2nd round draft pick on an RB when we have such glaring needs at OL and TE would be a bad move. RB is not the problem on this team. We can fill that with a late round or FA pickup. We don't need another CJ wasted pick (shoulda been Bulaga). BTW, Fred Jackson has a few years left in the tank. He was running on a bad wheel last season with a crappy line, but he came through time and again with big plays and clutch first downs. He wants to be in Buffalo and they have a need for him as a Swiss Army Knife type of player that he should be used as. I see no reason that they don't bring him back at $3M-$4M a year over 4 years. I expect he is considered a "risk " player.Maybe he is still considered a project of sorts. So poorly used the last two year when he was on the field it was shameful honestly. Marrone must have hated him. i am serious about that statement.Roman might be all ground and pound and he may be all a smart Coach whom uses what he has to the advantage But with some serious speed guys on the Bills he might being doing his own "The Simpsons" , Mr Burns imitation. Excellent,....... excellent !! ps i vote we keep Glass Goodwin. and then fool them all. Sammy and Spiller can run the Clemson game. EJ gets protection. EJ gets calm. and Bills call more vertical plays because they are demanding defense respect the run.koolaid is getting to my head !still need to draft one. anyone think Fred might retire this year and surprise? Kirby Jackson Posted February 25, 2015 Share Posted February 25, 2015 I think that where the disconnect comes in on Spiller is that people are still stuck on where he was drafted (like a more likable Whitner). The guy cannot help where he was drafted. While neither Whitner nor Spiller may ever turn out to be good top 10 picks that does not mean that they don't have a place in the NFL. Both are good NFL players if used correctly. Spiller is (and has always been) a specialist IMO. People want to run him out of town because they want pounding between the tackles type of back. Can't we have both? Move Dixon to a FB type of role, a big back to pound, Freddie to spell him, and CJ used as referenced above. Then you still have Bryce Brown to fill any role other than Dixon's. Call me a pessimist but I find it ridiculous to suggest Fred has a few years left in the tank. I know we all appreciate what he represents, but when backs his age start to lose it they don't get it back. When players mean as much to the franchise Fred does, people want to realize the decline until it's painfully obvious. He's entering his age 34 season and I'd be shocked to see him playing at 36.
