Hunger and talent keep Bills in playoff hunt

Buffalo is part of a very crowded AFC race entering the last four weeks, but how have the Bills made it to this position despite adversity this season?

What They’re Saying: Doug Marrone and Kyle Orton

Kyle Orton will return to Denver for the second time since his stint with the team from 2009-2011.

Horse Tracks: Lets not overlook the Buffalo Bills #Broncos #Bills http://sbnation.com/e/7095342

It appears that the Denver Broncos have fixed their offensive line woes just in time to take on Mario Williams and the Buffalo Bills stout defensive line who are arguably the best in the entire league.

A few weeks back the Broncos were coming off an embarrassing loss to the St. Louis Rams. Their offensive line was in disarray, their running game was non-exsistent, and the offense lacked an identity. Two weeks later the Broncos appear to have cured those woes. The offensive line play have improved, C.J Anderson has bursted onto the scene, and the Broncos have become a much more balanced team.

This weekend the Broncos will be hosting a very good Buffalo Bills defense that has their eyes set on slowing down the Broncos offense. The Bills defense leads the league in sacks(48), they have allowed the second fewest points in the league(18.1), 7th in rush defense(96.3), 5th in pass defense(216.1), and 5th in total yards given up per game(312.4).

I'm meeting a buddy of mine out in Denver who is a Broncos fan. Should be a fun game to attend. Can't wait. He thinks the Bills will get killed out there as do most people in Denver. He said a radio show has been making fun of Kyle Orton all week. I can only hope the Good Kyle Orton shows up.

You know what would really suck? If the Defense has a great game and generates some turnovers and then Little Natey Hackett and his putrid anemic offense gets no points or just a FG off the turnovers.

On the other hand, the top brass can only watch so many games where the offensive game plan puked all over a stellar defensive effort before truly seeing where the problems lie. The question becomes, will Marrone make the move or will someone make the move for him, and if they make the move for him, will it include Marrone getting dumped as well?

Here is how I see it: 7-9 Marrone and staff fired; 8-8 Marrone 50/50 to stay but Hacket forced out; 9-7 Marrone stays and Hacket 50/50; 10-6 Everyone stays; 11-5 St. Doug and thank God fans do not get to make decisions. My bet is 9-7 at this point, but anything can still happen.

NFL Week 14 Game Rankings: crunch time for playoff contenders

Buffalo at Denver

Why To Watch: Peyton Manning wraps up a stretch against a beasty defensive line here, and I expect the Broncos to continue to try to be a run-heavy team. Manning didn't look right against the Chiefs, whether it was the temperature or the wind or an accumulation of his hits he's absorbed or him just having an off night, or whatever. And I've been among the first to champion the idea that he had to greatly curtail the number of passing attempts he was accustomed to, and full marks to offensive coordinator Adam Gase for doing just that. But it went well beyond that Sunday night in Kansas City, and that was a more limited Manning than we've seen in quite some time. Buffalo is still alive for a wild card berth with a win over Cleveland last week and they'll need to pull of an upset or two to stick around until the end, much less make it. Besides the Broncos, they have the Packers and the Pats still remaining (though its possible New England will have nothing to play for by the time they meet in Week 17). It won't be getting much easier for them, and they have just one home game remaining.

What To Watch For: The latest reshuffling of the Broncos' offensive line looks the best, but the Bills can get pressure on pretty much anyone without having to bring more than four or so pass rushers, and if Jerry Hughes and Mario Williams have the kind of game I think they might, it makes this game a lot closer than some might expect ... We'll see if Marcell Dareus can be an every-snap presence for the Bills, with the defensive tackle in and out with a groin problem last week ... Emmanuel Sanders is a target machine. He is the guy who makes that offense go, and the Bills have the kind of secondary where they just might be able to mitigate some of his damage, particularly with seven in coverage and two deep safeties ... Will be touch-and-go whether or not Julius Thomas can play again this week and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Broncos continued to take a long view with him and take their time ... Kyle Orton would love to have a little something to show the Broncos, his former team, but he has been prone to some slow starts lately and I tend to think DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller are going to create acute problems for him coming off the edge ... CJ Anderson continues to be a game-changer for the Broncos, but it wont be easy to keep his run of 150-yard games going against this front seven.

If the Broncos want to be run heavy as the article above suggests, then that's fine. They will just leave the Bills in the game the entire way. Running ALOT is overrated in the NFL. If you have a QB that can get down the field in a few chunk plays that's the winning recipe. Mix in a few runs but to get points ya gotta be able to pass effectively. Manning can do that.

How an offense led by Peyton Manning "lacks an identity" is beyond me.

Demaryius Thomas misses Thurs. practice

The Broncos look as though they’ll have TE Julius Thomas back in the fold after missing the past two games with an ankle injury. But WR Demaryius Thomas missed Thursday’s practice with an ankle injury of his own after being limited on Wednesday. Thomas is second in the league in receiving yardage and has 10 touchdowns.

Starting DT Terrance Knighton was added to the injury report with an elbow injury.

Bills top 3 WRs limited

Bills head coach Doug Marrone isn’t concerned about whether they’ll be available on Sunday, but it’s clear that each of Buffalo’s top three receivers are at less than 100 percent.

Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Chris Hogan were all limited in practice Thursday as the team prepares for a big road date at Denver. Fellow WR Mike Williams also sustained a calf injury in practice Thursday and was limited too.

Mario Williams: AFC Defensive Player of the Month (3:20)

Bills defensive end Mario Williams reacts to being named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for November. He also talks about Sunday's game in Denver and getting pressure on QB Peyton Manning.

they crap on him like our fans crap all over Fitz. Let's hope he gets similar "revenge"

Easy for them to do when they have a future HOF QB. All we have is a less mistake prone Fitz to boast of. But, yea if we beat the Broncos it will be mighty sweet. Though not as sweet as a victory against the Pats*
