Who can the Bills least afford to lose to injury

Recommended Posts

The Bills will need to play well to make playoffs and need every player can in some positions we have greater depth than others.

In my opinion these are the most important players:

  1. Kyle Orton - while Bills may be able to make do with EJ finishing game or even have him start in a game the Bills are most likely going lose the Bills need Kyle Orton to get to 9-7 (lowest possible wild card with right breaks) and probably 10-6 or even 11-5.
  2. Dan Carpenter - while TDs are preferred every point is needed and neither a free agent nor one of the kickers on roster will do at end of year. If one of the other kicking specialists is injured for part or rest of year it is possible the other kickers could pick up the slack.
  3. Eric Wood - while Urbik has taken some snaps in training camp nobody will have many practice snaps as Wood and this is a position which takes reps.
  4. Sammy Watkins - yes I put him below others for it is more possible for one of the players to step up if he is unable to play for a period.

For the other positions either have depth of near equal high (i.e. defense line) or low (i.e. offense line) quality. Opinions will vary. Interested in other points of view for as an old poster once told me (ICE) "if someone is so sure of their opinion that it can not be changed there is no need to discuss with that person".

I am sure if someone on the inside Oline got hurt, we would be pretty screwed. Even with how bad they have been already, especially Wood or Urbik. In most other places except Orton I don't think it is that big a worry but I could be wrong.

1. Watkins

Most talented player on offense, and quickly become player defense must key on. Everything revolves around him. If he goes down the lot of Goodwin, woods, Williams and hogan is not that impressive. Add to the emotional blow of losing the promising rookie and complaints for no #1 next year for a guys who's not playing, and it would be devastating all the way around.

2. Dareus

Key to the defense. His penetration is what's allowing pass rushers like Hughes to shine, and disrupting run plays.

+1

Sammy is key to the offense. Compared to SJ13 it is my recollection that he's had fewer drops and penalties due to dumbazz showboating!!!

Lose Sammy and we loose all of his spectacular YAC.

IMO thinking EJ will lose games just because he's in there is unwarranted. it's not like he's 1-7 in his last 8 games.

compared to you know who. hint the guy in green some others wanted over EJ.

It's Orton, Watkins and Aaron Williams IMO. The dropoff from those guys to next on the depth chart is most significant. They could suffer minor injuries everywhere else. If any of those 3 got hurt the game plan changes.

I know that most disagree with me but I don't think that Eric Wood is a good player. I realize that the guards aren't good but he seems to get beat regularly as well. He commits a lot of penalties, they don't run well between the tackles and he hasn't graded out well. Wood is okay but I firmly believe that he is the most overrated player on the roster.

Glenn. There is nobody on the roster capable of playing LT and the repercussions to the rest of the line are devastating. Henderson moves to LT, Pears or Hairston to RT, and Richardson/Hairston would be RG. This would make the line the worst in the NFL if they are not already. After that who plays QB is irrelevant.

The question should be "who after Orton?" He is the obvious answer (and the correct one). There are others that can be debated (AW, Watkins, Dareus, Mario and Glenn). I'm not sure that it could be anyone else. Those guys each add an element that is exclusive to them.
