If the plan was to move on they would have traded Spiller to the Eagles in the Bryce Brown trade instead of telling Philly to kick rocks. If the Browns got a 1st for Trent Richardson we should be able to muster a 1st for Spiller. Yet it probably be a late 1st and with the 49ers have some injuries in the backfield imagine they'd be a potential suitor/fit. I do not want them to trade Spiller, but if they did, it has to be for a player that will contribute this year. A quality TE or a Backup QB who could start if called upon would be my guess. Perhaps the Bills wanted more than Bryce Brown for Spiller, and nothing else was being offered. As low an opinion as some here seem to have of Spiller, at this point in their careers, Spiller is far more valuable than Brown. I think Brown is a nice player to get, especially for very little, but lets not forget, he had a bit of a reputation as a fumbler. Which is what made him expendable to the Eagles. The catch 22 (or 28) is that once he has a good year, his contract demands will be outrageous and he is all but certain to leave. I think he is one of the best in that role, but does anyone really think that we should pin our hopes on a 33 year old starter at RB? I don't see anyone I'm excited about behind him either. I would not be surprised if this was CJ's agent's way of drumming up an offer to get CJ out of town and on a team willing to give him a long term deal now. What agents? Spiller doesn't even have an agent at the moment and hasn't for awhile now. I don't want to see Spiller traded but this would not surprise me at all as it was clear early on last season he is not the type of bsck that Marrone prefers. Big difference between acquiring Spiller in the last year of his deal and Richardson in the second year of his. The time for the Bills to trade Spiller (If they intended) would have been on draft day, not three weeks into training camp. It will demotivate the players. We have a few capable guys, so if we know we are not going to pay a RB top five money, than it makes sense to unload the one we can get the most for, Spiller. If we got a 1st (unlikely) then we essentially traded Spiller for Watkins and the difference between the location of the two first rounders. Not a bad deal, potentially. Let's say bills get a first and it ends up being pick 20. We moved up to 3 in 2014 to potentially move back to 20 in 2015. In the process we pick up a stud WR at the beginning of a rookie contract in exchange for offloading a RB at the end of a rookie contract. Sound a like a win to me.
