dobsonfe
I think the Bills should sign McCrea as a Tight End prospect, in the mold of other college basketball players who have made the transition NFL TE He has the size. Besides, what can it hurt? Thoughts?

Kirby Jackson
I think the Bills should sign McCrea as a Tight End prospect, in the mold of other college basketball players who have made the transition NFL TE He has the size. Besides, what can it hurt? Thoughts? I know that Chris Manhertz of Canisius has expressed an interest in playing football. He is actually training now and has the build for it. I have heard that McCrea is interested in that possibility as well. I am not positive about that one but that is the word on the street.

Doc
UB basketball player Thanks. Nothing to lose to bring him in for a look-see in training camp.
dobsonfe
He's big, 6'7" 250 lbs, and there is precedent for this sort of thing happening: think Gonzales, Graham, Antonio Gates, etc.
BringBackFergy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_McCrea If we sign this kid it might reverse the Indian Burial Ground curse we have suffered through for 40 years. The Indians killed Jane, so if we sign him it's now a wash. Good times a"head"
zow2
I don't recall hearing or seeing anything about McCrea even playing high school football. Yeah he has the size but he would be the rawest of raw trying to play TE at the highest level in the world.
dobsonfe
Good point. You might be right, considering that it seems he did not play H.S. football, but I'd love to see the Bills give him a try-out. Why not just invite him as a free agent or something? Dude seems big and strong, if also very raw.
Prickly Pete
Why just him then? Why not contact any or every big, college basketball player, and see if they want to come to camp and get pummeled while trying to run routes and catch a football? Why are you so limited in your thinking? I mean, let's think outside the box a little.
YoloinOhio
Jeff Russo @JeffRussoWKBW 2h I'm told @GoGriffs #canisius basketball forward Chris Manhertz will work out for #Buffalo #Bills officials. boyst
I did not find much but he was evidently good enough to get a profile on ESPN for football coming out of High School. Anyone else who gets a chance to look or give some info about the guy I am one of many, likely, to want to hear about him.
YoloinOhio
Nick Veronica @NickVeronica 1h Can confirm report that #Griffs F Chris Manhertz has a workout with the #Bills. Always joked he could play TE, now he might get the chance. Buffalo Dot Com @BuffaloDotCom Mar 10 The careers of Billy Baron and Chris Manhertz transformed a @Griffs_MBB program in need of talent and passion. mrags
I'm just happy they are kicking tires. Even if the tires they are kicking are for an SUV and we drive a sports coupe, I'm still happy they are kicking.
