Can someone please explain to me why this is so popular? I'm watching it for the first time and I haven't been this annoyed in a long time.

It's like a freak porno.

Is it just me?

From a purely film standpoint it's horrible, but that's not why it's fun. The midnight showings with live actors are a blast. Go to the bar, knock back a few drinks then head to the movie with a bunch of friends and just let loose. Uptight people need not apply.

It's like a freak porno.

...without the hot naked chicks.

Only saw it once (or part of it) and thought it was unwatchably dumb. Musical movies aren't really my thing.

I think it's one of those things some people feel obligated to 'like' because they've heard so much about it.

As has been mentioned it's not the film it's the experience. It's like being a fan of a really crappy football team, and not I'm not referring to the Bills...I don't think. You don't go to the game to watch your team as much as you go for the tailgate and the rowdy atmosphere of the stadium.

Okay, well that makes sense then, cause they were showing it on IFC last night and I thought it was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. And I'm the sort of moviegoer who will laugh hysterically at fart jokes and toilet humor, so it's not like I'm some highbrow film snob.

I'm not really sure I'm feeling compelled to attend the live experience, but I guess don't knock it til I try it...

But wow, the movie is stupid.

See you nailed it with that comment about feeling obligated. I know so many people who rave about it, when I saw it was on I started watching and DID feel like something was wrong with me that I wasn't entertained. It definitely was sort of a sense of obligation that I should find a way to appreciate it...but just wasn't happening.

Back in the seventies, kids would smoke a few J's get dressed up as their favorite characters, throw TP at the screen, act out scenes in the aisles, do the time warp dance, heckle at different scenes, generally had a whole script to play out while the movie played. Truly an interactive experience. It was a freaking blast.

We finally found a movie old enough for you to comment on!!! Wifey still enjoys a good time warp on occasion.

If you're not watching it in a theater at midnight (preferably either stoned or drunk), you're wasting your time. I must've seen it over 100 times while in college, and we had a blast every time. When it came out on DVD, I rented it, watched it, and was bored out of my skull.

Hmmm, this makes me want to do the time warp................again.

If I recall, it's just a jump to the left...

You do all know it was a spoof of science fiction B movies, right? In the opening theme (the lips) they make reference to :

The Day the Earth Stood Still

Flash Gordon

The Invisible ManKing Kong

It Came from Outer Space

Doctor X

Forbidden Planet

Tarantula

The Day of the Triffids

Night of the Demon

When Worlds Collide

I like this movie for about the first 30-45 minutes, and then it is very poor!

You really had to see it in a theater, with lip synching fans, slices of toast in the air, 'rain' inside, and all the key "prompts" for audience response.

Brad - "***hole"

What is really amazing is all the actors / singers who continued on with career:

Tim Curry

Susan Sarandon

Barry Bostwick

Meatloaf

I did all that several times, except the dressing up part. Brought the props, etc.

I actually have the picture disk with Tim Curry on it...........And, I'll throw it on the turntable still.

I LOVE the music - Dammit Janet, Hot Patootie, Touch a Touch a, I'm Going Home. The list goes on - love it.
