I want him to succeed. I thought he got a bad rub in his waning days in Buffalo. Wanny's "defense" forced him into a track meet few quarterbacks could consistently win.

That said: I also want TEN to pick up some losses along the way because of playoff implications.

TEN, HOU, IND, KC: we need to finish better than TWO of these teams... :(

Me also.

I gotta think he might just play better with Tenn because he won't be forced to shoulder the offense, and his new team should have a better defense then Gailey / Wannstooge fielded.

Man, what a difference coaching makes. Gotta love the Bills new DC Mike Pettine & Kiko

Browns 2-2

Bengals 2-2

Dolphins 3-1

Saints 4-0

Chiefs 4-0

Steelers 0-4

Jets 2-2

Falcons 1-3

Bucs 0-4 rookie QB Gennon starting

Jags 0-4

Dolphins 3-1

Patriots 4-0

Doesn't look like the playoffs to me. But then, that defense is getting McKelvin, Byrd, Gilmore back...holy cow!! :w00t:

Haha. But it's crazy how much people put everything on Fitz. He scored 28+ points against NE last year and lost both times. Maybe with this year's defense, he wins both games. It was time to move on but his attitude made me root so hard for him. He was like the coolest guy ever from Harvard.

Yea, how could you not love a QB with so much grit that it rubbed off on the players around him. Even SJ played hurt when he saw what Fitz was going thru.

If only Gailey had utilized him as a game manager instead of forcing him to carry the team. 3rd down and short, 5 wides with an empty backfield.

It will be interesting to see how he plays in a different offense, and under a different HC / OC. I almost wonder if it will be as extreme a difference as between Wannstache vs Pettine

Fitzpatrick got a raw deal here?

LOL my god this thread is comedy gold!

He is a mediocre journeyman with a weak arm and spotty accuracy who bounced around the league (apparently those teams also missed out on how he was actually really good). Then he lands in Buffalo, where he replaces a QB who was a complete wimp and has a handful of decent games, and gets rewarded with the big contract and the "savior franchise QB" treatment. His head coach was absolutely in love with him, the team brought in absolutely ZERO competition of any kind, anyone who said he wasn't good enough was shouted down and mocked, and he was treated like he was Buffalo's version of Tom Brady.

That deep pass last week was vintage Fitz: chuck it up for grabs, hope for the best. When it occasionally works he's a hero and we (the "haterZ") are all dumb. When it doesn't work the other 2/3 of the time you get what the Bills got for two seasons: turnovers and losses.

Fitzpatrick was given EVERY SHOT to succeed in Buffalo, far more than he would get anywhere else. And you know what? He wasn't very good. Yeah, he had a few games where he put up big numbers. He also had a lot more games where he threw for 165 yards a pick or two and maybe a touchdown and the offense looked pathetic.

Saying he hasn't gotten a fair shot in this league is absolutely hilarious. I've never seen more hero worship for a guy who couldn't crack 6 wins and obviously lacks the physical skills needed to play QB in the NFL.

But you know what? He's no longer my problem as a Bills fan!

I'm rooting for Fitz. I always liked him and think he is not nearly as bad as many on here make him out to be. Will be interesting to see what he does with some real WRs like Tennessee has. Tennessee can start losing again when Jake Locker comes back.

Fitz is in a perfect spot. This is why he left. He wore it out here but gets new life there. Good for him. I always liked him. With a Pettine defense, he is probably still here.

I think I love you. This this and this again. It was very frustrating.

I agree with every word of your description of Fitz's shortcomings as a QB. His accuracy was spotty at best.

That said, I think he's a good guy, and I wish him success in Tennessee.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I look at Fitz and see a backup QB with a limited arm, I think most people do also. I think we agree that when Chan Gailey looked at Fitz, and he saw another Tom Brady, and then went about making him the focal point of his offense. While Gailey was very smart in utilizing Fitz in his "spread offense", as his ability to get the ball out to the open receiver in usually under 3 seconds will give opposing defenses fits. (quick / short passes, Is a key component to successfully running the spread) The problem was with Gailey, and his 4-5 WR shotgun sets, was that he only had one decent 7th round WR on the field while running those plays. Kinda why now, with a better HC all those other WR's besides SJ are now gone.

So, those 4-5 WR sets didn't really fool opposing defenses (like the Patriots offensive schemes did) into really worrying about covering anyone not named Stevie Johnson. See, Tom Brady not only had Wes Welker as his possession WR. He had one of the very best TE's tandems in Gronk / Hernandez. He also had SB MVP Dion Branch, and all pro Brandon Loyd at WR, RB Danny Woodhead as his 3rd down back. Then you had the legend at QB, Brady himself, who has no limitations on his arm. So the NE Patriots didn't need smoke and mirrors to try and fool opposing defenses, as they were the real deal.

I think what most fans see is... that Instead of Fitz and the passing game being the focal point of Gaileys offense, it should have been the two RB's in Spiller and Jackson. Utilizing arguably the very best RB tandem in the NFL should have been far more productive then a one dimensional QB as the focal point of the offense.

Just my opinion.

A guy who throws for 3000+ yards in consecutive seasons is an above average QB. However, that does not always translate to victories, when he also throws a whole lot of INTs.

I want Fitz to succeed. He was a good guy and teammate. His arm strength and accuracy was the issue. What happens if the does well at Tennessee? It can make for lively discussions on TBD.

I don't think comparing his potential success to his failure in Buffalo would be a good comparison. These are two different teams with different type of coaching staff.

Why is Pettine's defense relevant here. Fitz failed to rally the team and would thrown game ending INTs at inopportune times.

Forcing a limited backup QB to constantly try and win games wasn't a very smart idea. A good defense will cause more 3 downs and out for opponents, and give your offense more chances with the ball.

A stout running game will not only help the offense control the clock and keep the opposing offense off the field. It also tires that opposing defense and makes it easier for your offense to move the ball in the 4th QTR

I was not comparing potential success with his failure in Buffalo. The facts are he was well liked, has a weak arm and had accuracy problems. If he does well, I was wondering what kind of discussions it would generate on TBD. There are plenty of Fitz detractors here.

Joe Montana didn't have a cannon for an arm either, which is why he lasted until the third round. I'll grant that Fitz's arm is probably even weaker than Montana's. But the main thing which separates those two QBs is accuracy. Montana threw beautiful passes which would hit the receiver in perfect stride. Fitz, not so much so. Fitz's decision-making was good. But his lack of accuracy prevented him from becoming a top-15 QB.

You might be right, I dunno, his WR corps in Buffalo after SJ was a bunch of scrubs, and even SJ had significant drops. Was it Fitz or his receivers? Look at that game in which SJ basically spoke out about TJ Graham running the wrong route that caused an INT and then even questioned the coaching (Gailey) as to why Graham was even the primary target, as he had never run that route in practice.

My take on Fitz and his accuracy issues is that the man never had a HC / OC / QB coach before last years QB coach David Lee (his words)work with him on his footwork or mechanics. (so Gailey did nothing to improve Fitz) Kinda why I think Fitz regressed a bit in 2012 is that he was always thinking instead of playing by instinct.

What made Fitz decent in the first place was his ability to survive in even the most harsh conditions. In 2010 the Buffalo Bills O line was so bad that Fitz was literally running for his life those first few games. I can recall that week four Jet game in which Fitz (7-74)was the leading rusher over Jackson (3-21)-Spiller (2-11)-Lynch(4-8) because he was under so much constant duress. Fitz ended that year with a yard per carry average the same as Michael Vick at 6.0, which is pretty darn good for a supposed pocket QB.

The first 5 of games of the 2010 season saw Cornell Green at RT, Demetress Bell at LT, Levitre at LG, Wood at RG, Geoff Hangartner at center. So both tackles were like turnstiles. RT Green had hit the proverbial wall before the season even started, and no coaches even noticed until week four or so. This is a sore subject with me because I saw it in week one, and was complaining about it in this forum to mostly deaf ears. Green was then quietly benched for some mysterious injury and then released after week five. Mansfield Wrotto took his place at RT.

Gailey and his coaches didn't see how bad Green was in that first game? This is also the same HC who named Spiller the starter that opening game only to bench him after five plays when he saw he couldn't block in protections, couldn't find a hole, couldn't run a pass route properly.

Last years Bills coaching staff, to put it bluntly, sucked! This new staff has already proven to be much better, and with a rookie at QB at that.
