Not sure where to put this topic so move it if needed.

Me and a friend of mine are traveling from Rochester to Cleveland for the Thursday night game. We will probably be in Cleveland by 3:00. We are looking for a place to eat, things to do before the game, and a (nice) place to stay overnight. What are some suggestions? We've never been to cleveland

I've never done a game in Cleveland, but have stayed at the downtown Marriott (Key Center) several times. You can walk to the stadium, RnR HOF and the Warehouse District (the bars and clubs).

Chef Michael Simon's joint Lola is within walking http://lolabistro.com/ (and it's on a neat little street with a few other spots worth checking out), Blue Point Grill is good, Osteria di valerio e al is small but nice Italian, Johnny's is more high end Italian and there are several steak houses nearby too.

I always liked the thought of being able to stay right downtown and walk to the game! Let us know how it goes...

Did both of those last year for the game and had a blast. Went out to the bars after dinner and it was Bill's nation. Pretty cool.

You might not have time to work it into your trip, but I did a little mini-vaca to Cleveland last year (like Buffalo, it has a lot to offer if you get past the sterotypes) and loved the Christmas Story Museum.

It's the actual house used for the exterior shots in the movie and they have redone the insides to replicate Ralphie's home - right down to the Red Ryder BB gun under the christmas tree. Totally hands-on (you can even climb under the sink to Randy's hiding spot).

May I suggest a Chinese restaurant called Boo Loong. It's in Cleveland's rudimentary Chinatown at 3922 St. Clair st. It's open until 2 and has great authentic chinese food. Most of the patrons are Asian and doing karaoke after 10pm. Get tge spring rolls and the shrimp with scrambled egg ( sounds gross but it's heavenly). I goe every single time I get back to Cleveland

You can do a lot worse than walking around downtown. Restaurants and bars are clustered: E. 4th has a lot of good eats, as does the Warehouse District (W.9 and W. 6th @ Superior and St. Clair). Look for the building with the knife through the corner.

One weird thing about Cleveland: the numbered streets are north south, and W. 6th doesn't intersect with E. 6th. They are numbered based on how many blocks east or west of public square they are. That can be confusing, or it was to me when I first moved to Ohio.

I have been in several of the downtown hotels but never stayed in them. The conference facilities seemed nice! You get what you pay for, is my guess. The Hyatt at the Arcade is in one of the coolest buildings downtown. It's less than a mile to the stadium from the downtown hotels. Downtown is pretty safe even at night, other than occasional aggressive panhandlers. Check out the Flats East Bank project to, which has a hotel and several restaurants (Ken Stewart's: thumbs up but pricey; I think it is open by now).

If you venture out of downtown, head to Ohio City, which is immediately to the west of downtown just across the river. A neighborhood that will feel familiar to Rochesterians along W. 25th, with excellent food choices at a variety of prices and 3 great beer places (including the Great Lakes Brewery restaurant and brewery). Also recommend Momocho for modern Mexican, at the north end of W. 25th. Also, go to the Westside Market at W 25 and Lorain. A true old-style urban market.

Cleveland has great food, I will say that. And there is a casino right downtown, if that is your thing.

Cleveland has some pretty authentic Chinese food in that part of town. I ate some seriously authentic dim sum there once.

Any good strip clubs? Asking for a friend....

I recall having a fine time at the Crazy Horse last fall ... it is right downtown and not far from anything bar/restaurant-wise. Ladies were all quite young (collegiate) and impressionable, not high-mileage vets who are all about having the meter running. Bouncer dudes seemed like they could care less what the girls were up to ... not very protective or pimp-like.

Tell your friend I highly recommend giving it a try.

The best way to do cleveland is to go on hotwire in the morning and you can get a screaming deal on a hotel for the night.

they don't tell you the exact name of the hotel, but they give you the general area, in this case you would choose downtown cleveland.

click on a four star hotel and you can probably get one for half price. downtown cleveland isnt that big, and you can walk to most of the hotels easily.

don't forget to get a buzz on and go see the rock and roll hall of fame when you're there. it's awesome. wear your bills stuff because you'll be proud that we spanked Weeden and Co. the night before.

So i booked a room for 2 at the Hampton Inn at Cleveland-Westlake. It's about 20 minutes West of the Stadium. Where are some good places to eat around that area, and what time are fans allowed in the Stadium?

This is the location

I wish I had seen this earlier. I live in North Olmsted, just south of Westlake. Crocker Park is right across the street from the Hampton Inn, and it has all kinds of restaurants, including a Cheesecake Factory and a B Spot (that's Michael Symon's burger place).
