Getting Sunday Ticket discounted or free

Recommended Posts

Did you get the Genie out of the deal? I'm not on contract and I feel like I have a lot of chips to play at the DTV Casino. Best part of DTV is you can get deals just by going after them!

They offered 3 free months of showtime, and some tech device to interact with an Iphone or Ipad which I don't have .....I'm fairly low tech, and I really am trying to cut back on tube time , so I declined

A bit late to the party, but here's my story. I got the NFL Package last year for $199.95 Plus, they took $20 off my entrie bill for a year (still getting that bonus) Got my renewal letter yesterday, called and told them I didn't want to automagically renew. Said I was on the fence for the package. So they offered the whole package, plus the RedZone, for a TOTAL of 29.95. Pretty sweet deal.

I called and told the DTV rep I am a disgruntled Bills fan. He gave me a 13 year free subscription to Sunday Ticket, a 51" LED TV, a 2 year supply of Jiffy Pop and his first born.

I get a kick out of how you guys try and top each other with your negotiations....so I felt compelled to top you all.

I have been with Direct TV since nearly its start as a company.....

I always call and they always give me a better deal then the advertised price......but it is never anywhere close to the deals some of you are getting. Maybe I am doing something wrong?

I just called and the person in customer retention threw the farm at me, though I didn't ask for special pricing. I told her I was done with my football team and tired of making payments long after my team showed their suckiness, and since I only used them for Ticket, there was no need to be tied to them anymore. She was very kind, and I was genuinely kind in return. Not threatening...more like "Hey, it's been a fun 18 years, but I really don't need you anymore."

She cut my monthly bill in half for one year, free Genie upgrade and install, and free Sunday Ticket Max with all the trimimings ( Red Zone, Game Mix, online viewing, etc.) The Genie required a two-year commitment, but she told me just call back next year regarding pricing. I asked her if she could do Ticket for two years and she said the only reason she couldn't was because there was no guarantee next year they'd have the Ticket exclusively. Fair enough.

More to your point (possibly), she told me I hit the sweet spot for calling: end of June/start of July is when they sit on the deals.

Today was definitely the day to call. Free Sunday Ticket (w/ Max) and two statement credits ($15/15 mos., $20/12 mos.). Same as others have indicated, I didn't threaten to quit, just told them I wanted to "talk about my bill" because of how long I've been a customer and how much $$ I spend with them. I already have the Genie so there was no point in discussing any hardware upgrades.

Have fun, boys -- the deals are flying!

Have to admit I've never gotten Ticket comped completely, and in an odd way there's a satisfaction knowing that when we're 1-5, I won't have four more monthly payments to remind me what a schmoe I am.

anyone know if I will be able to split that computer/tablet code with a friend? I want to run my computer from my home, and him use the tablet code when at work? any info would be huge

Haven't done the computer/tablet thing, but I have a good friend who is also a Bears fan so I give him my DIrecTV login information so he can watch the Bears game on his PC. Obviously you have to trust the person, but the option is there to help your friend out.

Was this the first person you spoke with or did they transfer you to customer retention?

Also, what time did you call?

Ha ha, I don't recall a complete comp either, but your post inspired me to call. The rep laughed when I used the "and my team stinks" line.

His name was Ralph and insisted that we end the call at 3:45pm...he kept muttering something about missing the EBS (early bird special). Nice guy.

The story of my life.

In fact I'm considering that line as the title for my memoirs.

What is genie and should I get it?

It's a garage door opener.

I would only buy a Genie or a Liftmaster. Craftsman is good too but they're built by Genie for Sears.

Just spoke to customer retention and got the $15 for 15 discount, and ST for free. It got a bit rough when the first attempt yielded only half off ST, then I asked what the termination fee would be. After the agent calculated it & I said I'd have to think about cancelling, he asked what it would take to satisfy me and I then got what I wanted. Turned out to be a $445 savings for a 20 minute call. As others have said in past years, the key is asking for customer retention. I like this thread.
