Maybin getting a lot of NY hype

2011 highlights.... Some things I take away from watching them, and not going off memory....

1) several of them he was far upfield but the play broke down for long enough and in a lucky enough direction that he was able to track his guy down. Minor credit for effort on those but generally an end SHOULD be able to get back to a play if it breaks down long enough

2) I stand corrected- he did win on an inside move. The redskins highlight. It was ugly on the tackles part, but he beat a tackle inside. Not to sound catty but.... We got like 43 sacks against that line. I'll give him that play though.

3) the only time anyone got a hand on him and he still made a move towards the qb was our own chandler and SDs Matthews - a TE and a rb.

The highlights were a tiny tiny bit better than I remembered, but even on his 6-8 best plays he really doesn't look great. Out of 185 times getting after the qb... That's the best of it. By my count he beat a guy paid millions to stop pass rushers only one time. Hopefully watching better pass rushers this year will remind some what that really should look like.

Actually, this is exactly what happened on multiple occasions. You're repeating the same diatribe over and over again as if it is inarguable gospel truth while avoiding/ignoring many salient points made by multiple posters. Yes, his numbers were pedestrian, and pointing out other pedestrian numbers by players on mediocre defenses doesn't really make much sense. They were pedestrian because they were mostly in garbage time--- in crunch time he was invisible.

I realize you feel sorry for the guy because of his personal tragedy but that doesn't make him a good football player. Is it really shocking that his coaches and teammates are saying good things? Seriously? Rex is talking up Tebow, too. Is Tebow the 21st Century Johnny Unitas? I've heard glowing training camp reports from teammates and coaches about Naaman Roosevelt but I bet he gets cut.

I don't hate the guy, but I dislike him for being a big mouthed punk, and one that fits in perfectly with the Jets and their fan base. I'm sorry for what he went through, but having limited success as a situational pass rusher with little to no football skills doesn't deserve a parade. I wouldn't be surprised if he has some success whilst further being isolated by the Jets coaching staff in favorable situations (which is smart) this season but I don't think I'd martyr myself over it the way posters have done for Trent Edwards and Chris Kelsay in recent years.

Now please, repeat again how little time he had to prepare and the Bills individual sack leaders since 2009 and blah blah blah. You and Rex are alone on this crusade.

lol, I love how I am the one "repeating things" when every single response of people bashing him is identical to the next. Facts are facts. His road to the Jets and playing time last year is a fact. Getting 6 sacks is a fact. Bills not getting a single player with 6 since 2009 is a fact.

The difference here is that all I am saying is that he has EARNED the praise and hype he is generating this offseason from his on field and off the field work. I am not claiming he is going to be this or that. I simply said it would not surprise me at all to see double digit sacks from him this season. And if you actually took the time to read the stuff on him you would see quite a bit of improvement being reported from the staff. He has PLAYED his way into the rotation and seems to be headed to being a potential starter.

Funny thing is that you and others want to make a big deal about how talented the Jets D is when it comes to down grading his sacks but completely ignore the fact that he is earning playing time on such a talented defense. So much so that they are designing plays just for Maybin like they do their other play makers. If he is so bad and the Jets defense is so talented, then wouldn't the logical move be that he would be cut or relinquished to 3rd string?

Apparently he is not as bad as you so badly want him to be in the eyes of the Jets staff, and for Maybin, that's all that matters.

Maybin bulked up? How long til he takes a **** and it goes away?

He's doing juice. He'll be suspended for illegal substance before the season is over.

When he makes a play he puts his arms in the air like he is God or something - can't wait to see a RB flatten him again. That video is pathetic.

Here is a win - win scenario. Maybin earns a claim to fame by ending Brady's career. Maybin would be famous, Brady would be done & NE would forever hate & demolish the Jets. That way Buffalo doesn't have to do it.

Count me in the group who'd love for the Bills to do "the honors."

Alphadawg, I never heard that it was an illness which caused Maybin to lose weight and I'm as much an addict of Bills/NFL news as anyone.

Do you have a link?

Here's one salient feature to Maybin's NFL career: He sucked at special teams. What does that say about the guy?

It was a self reported thing from maybin. When asked (after being cut?) he claimed he had been sick the week prior, and that's why he was about 40 lbs too light to be an every down player.

The comma being the seperation between the true story, and my own feelings

Thanks, NoSaint. I'm starting to remember that.

Some guys make excuses… others (ribs) don't.

Alpha, your obsession with Maybin and his amazing 6 sacks is rivaling Dog1487's love affair with Trent Edwards. You're dangerously close to surpassing eball's boner for Kelsay. Just sayin.

Easy cowboy. By the way, read Wanny's transcript today. ;)

Thanks for posting this. Every sack or tackle is a result of the person holding onto the ball to long or a busted play. He is always chasing from behind and the play takes too long. Never him beating his man. Always getting shoved downfield. No thanks, the Jets can have him.

See, both those things happened last year.

You are aware that there are 11 people on a defense, and that there are other parts to a defense that can make that defense good. Just because their OLB is Maybin and the Jest defense is talented, that doesn't by definition make him talented. Talented defenses make less talented people look better than they really are. Maybe they honestly don't have any other pass rushing options as well? I mean, if Maybin was their answer to the pass rush, why did they go out a draft one this year, in the first round no less?

Look, I don't think anyone here is saying that you think he'll become anything amazing. But you sure are talking up his 6 sacks. And you keep comparing him to the Bills. The Bills defense hasn't been nearly as good as the Jest, but Marcell a DT, who isn't a sack specialist had 5.5 sacks last year on an abysmal Bills defense, without the support Maybin had around him, to me thats something that deserves MUCH MUCH more hype.

Lol, not even close. I really don't care about Maybin nearly as much as this thread suggests. Looks that way because so many people keep replying to me with the same lame statements.

My ONLY point ever (which was the topic of this thread) is that Maybin EARNED the praise and hype this time on the field with the Jets during light duties last year and during their offseason and training camp.

Is he going to live up to it, who knows (although I get the people hating on him are certain he won't), but given the Jets are designing plays for him and he has been racking up sacks in training camp, it wouldn't surprise me to see him become a contributing member of that team.

Once again, if the Jets D is so good, then wouldn't that mean he has to bring something to the table if he earns real playing time?

And as far as your draft comment about how they took a pass rusher, Bills took a RB 9th overall despite having Freddy and Lynch...by your logic both Lynch and Freddy must suck too. Or it could be you can never have too many pass rushers an that Maybjn was still unproven as a full time player and still carries question marks. But I guess that makes too much sense

  • 4 weeks later...

I grow weary of Maybin talk. He is an EX Bills player. Let's talk about someone on the team now. Maybin has been gone for a full year, did nothing for us except end up being a wasted first rounder. Now, how about that Kyle Moore?

maybins preseason statline-4 games, 1 tackle, zero sacks.

lol

I watched him in the third game and any time an offensive lineman got anywhere near him it was over. He did, however, have two good plays where he got into the backfield and chased the QB around, to no avail. One was actually a pretty good stunt up the middle. Other than that, however, he was pretty ineffectual when I was watching, and I was specifically watching him. All he's really got is his "quicks"--once a blocker gets anywhere near him, he's done....

The bottomline with Maybin remains... He didnt put in the effort here, getting cut was a huge wakeup call for him; he may or not may make it now. It's all a hobby for him now anyways, the money is in the bank so to say.

The best way to go to a better team is to be a high draft pick who doesn't put forth the effort with the team he wished never drafted him
