... which would have 99.9999% of the people on this board singing Nix praises if Merriman made it.

But since it's Maybin, unless he lines up over center, destroys him and pushes him into the QB's lap, throws a guard out of the way with a powerful swim move, then does a balletic spin move to get by the running back, sacking the QB in under 1.5 seconds, many on this board won't consider it a "quality" sack.

It could simply be that Maybin was a lazy POS when he was here and only started working when he got cut. Gailey has said that he had trouble figuring out how to motivate Maybin. One could assume he was threatened with being cut several times. Sometimes threatening doesn't get through. Some people need to be fired before they understand that 75% effort isn't enough.

MONEY.

He was making ridiculous money in Buffalo and not doing anything. Bad for the lockeroom, BADBADBAD. The Jets pay him league minimum. He is a very limited player.

Sacks aren't everything. Maybe some of you would prefer the Bills find some track star to play rush linebacker, so they can get a few sacks. That would be awesome. Of course the guy would be useless for every other situation, and leave the defense vulnerable.

It will indeed suck if Maybin ends up being another in a long list of Bills that got run out of town that ended up contributing or starting on teams for other winning organizations.

Is there really a long list of these kinds of players? More than most other teams?

You might want to count again.

Especially if you start it from the beginning of the play.

Maybin with big 3rd down sack against Chargers. He lined up against Ryan Matthews and easily got around him. Beating Matthews isn't that impressive, but the Jets do a great job of putting him on the field in situations where he won't be trying to get around an OT.

Very, very fair to ask why the Bills failed so badly at putting him on the field in situations where his weaknesses would be masked and his strengths be maximized.

Sorry, this really pisses me off. Look forward to the defense of our geniuses upstairs (Gailey and Nix).

Because they were paying him a load of money and he hadn't done ****! The Jets pay him the league minimum. The Bills have guys like Fred Jackson, Steve Johnson, and Ryan Fitzpatrick TEARING UP THE LEAGUE, all the while being WAY UNDERPAID! Maybin was a JOKE on this team! A guy like that breeds resentment among the underpaid veterans.

Additionally, HE SUCKS! He is less than a one-trick pony, he is a half-trick pony!

What else do you need to know? Do you have any more questions? I am answering for Nix and Gailey because they have more important things to take care of than stupid questions like this one.

It was a nice play, too. Beat the RB blocking him and exploded into Rivers. This is becoming a disaster.

Excuse me? The RB (Matthews) definitely slowed him down, and it was a coverage sack. Rivers held the ball too long.

Maybin is and always will be a one-trick pony. Wait until he tries to get around Freddy in two weeks. It will be like Sunday morning at IHOP.

You can't make sacks sitting on the bench. Apparently he's something of a gamer. I still think he was on something because he showed up at the combine 25 lbs heavier than his playing weight in college. After the draft he shows up in Buffalo back down to his college playing weight. This might have destroyed any trust that Ralph Wilson had in him with this organization.

What does Ralph Wilson have to do with Maybin's playing wieght?

Maybin was not run out of town. He was beat out on a team that boasts such star LB's as Moats, Batten, Carrington and Kelsey (sarcasm intended BTW). Maybin could not beat out any of these guys for playing time. He is fortunate to land a spot on the jets, where he was once cut, and can fill a role for them.

Excellent post and I think the fact the jets also cut him previously seems lost on the folks who are hinting/saying that we made a mistake cutting him. Jets limited his role and perhaps Maybin finally realized his NFL career was non-existent and that he needed to make some changes in his approach to the game. He definitely looks much more tenacious and "hungry" out there right now.

I don't think he'll ever be more than a situational pass rusher but good for him trying to make something out of himself.

hahaha IHOP joke... he still beat him pretty handily and while it may have been a coverage sack he was still there to make the play
