Fans should realize we are still in rebuilding mode.

I've been questioning Evans impact on our team for a couple of years now. The only way this makes any sense is if we are planning on packaging this measly 4th round pick with another pick and move up in the draft. Possibly to improve their first round position or for another 2nd rounder then I'll understand the trade, but right now the trade is confusing.

If the Bills really wanted to "protect the future", they'd send a cybernetic assassin back in time to kill the mothers or Rob Johnson, JP Losman, and Trent Edwards before any of them were born

A better plan might have been to send him back with $50,000 so he could outbid Ralph for the franchise...

Exactly! I agree that Lee wasn't a good fit with Gailey's "system", but he is a quality player on a team that has very few to spare. This was purely about money. Anyone who thinks differently is one of those fans that will defend anything and everything the front office does.

Anyone who says this was purely about one thing will obviously defend that one thing point of view.

I'm also starting to wonder if Fitz had anything to do with it? He and Evans never clicked...?

My final take on Evans and all capable players we have lost one way or another...

If you are playing cards and your hand is made up of an Ace, a King, a 9, a 6, and a 2, you don't throw away the King just because you want to give the non-face cards a chance to play. You throw the 2 away and hope to get a card better or equal to the cards you currently have. Otherwise known as building your hand. The Bills throw away their upper/ middle cards before they have better cards to replace them???????

Its funny, Just a few days ago, everyone here was talking about the abundance of WR's in teh Bills camp and how many the Bills can keep, worrying they would need to cut someone like Roosevelt, or hide him on the PS. Now they make a move so they can open a roster spot and give these guys some game experience, its a horrible move.

You don't "open a roster spot" for Naaman !@#$ing Roosevelt by getting rid of the most accomplished player on your entire roster when his value is the lowest its been in his entire career. How can people not see this?

This reminds me of the day when Bills traded Eric Moulds to bank on Drew Haddad's future potential.

But the 5th the Bills netted for Moulds turned out to be Kyle Williams so there is that...

Good luck, Lee. Thanks for the time and service you've given to the Bills during this era of futility. I hope that things go well for you in Baltimore.

wait is drayton florence tweeting again? oh, nope, just picked up another flag for Pass Interference... (un-officially 7 on the year last season)

the same drayton florence who told us to cancel our season tickets for 2011? the same one who was waived by Jacksonville?

If yall want to moan about something, then moan about out biggest mistake of past 5 years - keeping McGee over Greer (thanks again marv, but also thanks Modrak for finding him). Had we not screwed that up, florence might not be so crucial...

I'm sure Fitz appreciates this trade. It's his make or break year for his career and he just lost one of his biggest weapons.

You guys can go on and on about "rebuilding" (year 11) but as a coach or front office guy how can you look the players in the eyes and tell them that the organization is doing everything they can to help them win?

I can't figure out why the Bills have a hard time attracting free agents. If it wasn't for the fans/game day environment the organization has nothing to bring to the table to prospective players.

What, you mean the typical "The Bills should trade this guy away to get something for him. Another team is looking for a player at that position and the guy has lost a step or two and is not great" Then, when they make the deal and its not for the ransom that fans wanted "Why did those senile idiots just give him away???? He was valuable here and now they have another hole! The Bills and Ralph are cheap, Buddy's asleep on teh job, everything sucks here WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Even though I renewed my season tickets, and have a right to an opinion, let's just review here.....

Did they just give Lee away? Yeah, pretty much.

Was he valuable here? Yeah, pretty much. He was a starter. Now there's a hole that wasn't there yesterday.

Is Ralph cheap? Yeah, pretty much. He's wayyyy under the cap, his team has sucked for 11 years, and there were guys available that were better than guys on his roster. That equals cheap. He also sells home games despite making a profit. This can only mean he needs a larger profit. After all, he is not moving the Bills while he's alive right? He makes a profit right? Then, why sell a home game? And if you homers say it's to make the franchise stronger in the future, your an idiot. Because if Ralph is worried about the Bills in Buffalo in the future, why not have a succession plan in place AND tell people what it is? It's pure ignorance and lack of respect for the city of Buffalo and its fans.

Is Buddy asleep on the job? Well, he admitted he would be sleeping when free agency starts. While that's probably not true, only an idiot would actually say that. I mean, what purpose does that serve him or the Bills to say things like that? None. He just needed to open his mouth again in condescending fashion.

Just win some football games by drafting better and through free agency please. If there are players out there to be had, and they are better than your last 53rd, and you have oodles of money to do it....THEN DO IT.

Otherwise, expect the heat if you aren't doing everything you can to win. That's how I see it anyway. From Section 135, 17 rows up.

Why do we have to jump on the ownership for every front office move. Go yell at Buddy and Chan as this is their choice.

Buddy builds his team with "bigger" people. One of the reasons he brought Craig Davis from SD to here. While I think they traded the wrong WR (Parrish instead of Evans), I don't think the owner has anything to do here. As another poster said, this franchise should have had a Buddy kind of GM in 2000...They hoped Donahoe would have been that, but all he waanted was revenge against the Steeler (For kicking him out in favor of the Chin).

I can't tell if this is supposed to be a compliment to the Bills front office or grounds for dismissal.

Please tell me that you don't believe replacing Evans with Buster Davis, a guy with less career yards than Lee Evans' worst season...is a good move.

If that's what he's thinking, (and God I hope it isn't), he needs to be escorted from OBD immediately.

Calm the locker room down? I really don't think there's any panic in the locker room, just among the armchair GM's.

really?

jw

The Bills owe the "masses nothing."

And the locker room is not in chaos. Or at the very least you have absolutely no way of proving that.

really?

Why does everyone want to extend Fitz? Can we please all realize that he isnt an elite QB.They were smart enough to get rid of Evans.Extending Fitz would be one step forward and two steps backward.

oh, geez.

jw

Just speculation, but perhaps Evans was traded as a favor to him.

not true as far as i know.

Yes, the fact alone that you site 10 years when we are only in Year 2, proves you are all overreacting bitches.

Your letting Donahoe's mistakes from years ago send you into a panick.

This is nothing but a reaction to a reaction.

How about listing some of the more eye-opening accomplishments that this front office has made in the last couple of years? Specifically, moves that have been made that were shrewd and really showed this front office is the cream of the NFL.

His approach on hope was iffy, but what is your take on the trade?

I think it makes a ton of sense. We got some great young receivers. Plus the season hasn't even started yet.

my feeling is the season is already over.

I agree with the OP and "Loyal"

I wrote a fairly long post about this (with the quotes from Gailey) in the other Lee Evans thread if you care to read it...

http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/132896-evans-traded-to-baltimore/page__st__440

didn't care.

I didn't realize that Evans was its most consistent threat. He was more like the team's invisible threat. The Bills' status from a won/lost standpoint will be little affected by the deal. The upside for this deal is that Evans is liberated from a bad football situation for him and is now on a team where he has a better opportunity to thrive and be on a playoff team. I'm happy for him. I also believe that even allowing for a loud chorus of second guessing Nix's trade does make some sense for a rebuilding team.

was this Buddy's trade?
