buffalo_bills
Ayodele>Mitchell...i think so. Ayodele has been a career starter, and i dont think hes much of a downdgrade, if not an upgrade over Mitchell.

Ayodele has been a career starter, and i dont think hes much of a downdgrade, if not an upgrade over Mitchell. It's amazing how fast these things happen. Did we not just hear a day or 2 ago that Mitchell is unlikely for game 1? I know Gailey wasn't commenting on long term prognosis, but did anyone see this coming? Ayodele has been a career starter, and i dont think hes much of a downdgrade, if not an upgrade over Mitchell. I agree with that in the past but Ayodeles game is losing ground at this point. Still I didnt think Mitchell was the greatest in the first place. Dont like to see him to go down but I do like the veteran addition.

Kelly the Dog
Adoyele should be a solid veteran replacement as a back-up, depending on how much speed he may have lost. He's always been productive. Probably a better ILB than Mitchell was, although Mitchell was probably a better blitzer and a little quicker in coverage. Still, it's probably not much of a loss, if any at all. http://www.miamidolphins.com/content/akin-ayodele

FightClub
How did Mitchell even get hurt?? I heard he was likely out for game 1 about a day ago, but where did this sudden injury come from? Practice?
silvermike
Eh, I'd guess we wanted to cut him all along, but couldn't because he was injured. The meantime was just scouting replacements.
Kelly the Dog
This is likely why Akin was cut by the Broncos... Ayodele became expendable when the Broncos decided to move Mario Haggan from outside linebacker to the inside "Mike" position, where Haggan spent all of the offseason and the early portion of training camp. The team has bumped Robert Ayers into the starting lineup at outside linebacker along with Jarvis Moss, who returned last week from a broken hand. Joe Mays and Wesley Woodyard, both key special-teams players, will provide depth at inside linebacker. Baraka Atkins, Jason Hunter and Jammie Kirlew will fight for jobs on the outside. "I just don't believe in taking veteran players to the final cutdown once you've already made a decision," coach Josh McDaniels said of releasing Ayodele, who signed as a free agent in April. As a bonus, Adoyele has more experience in the 3-4.

lets_go_bills
That sucks for both us and him. He'll never play another down in a Bills uniform. Signing Ayodele makes sense. He fits the D and knows the scheme. Should be a decent backup/depth player.
GOBILLS78
I don't know anything about the new guy, but I know this: Mitchell plays slow and is a below average tackler.

bobinaz
Reading his pro bio, Ayodele looks like a good pick up. Michell was good, but he sometimes seemed to be out of place or over pursued on a given play. Good luck KM!!!
Saint Doug
It's amazing how fast these things happen. Did we not just hear a day or 2 ago that Mitchell is unlikely for game 1? I know Gailey wasn't commenting on long term prognosis, but did anyone see this coming? Tell me about it. Do things like this happen with other teams? I remember when players would just "get injured" and would come back in 2-6 weeks or whatever. Now, it seems, Bills players get any kind of injury and they're automatically placed on IR and their seasons done. dollars 2 donuts
And it begins again this year...even before the start of the season. Our guys don't even need a real game to get hurt. That is #1 (#3 if you count the preseason rookies, oh wait, I'm sorry I forgot Schouman, as well).

Kelly the Dog
Tell me about it. Do things like this happen with other teams? I remember when players would just "get injured" and would come back in 2-6 weeks or whatever. Now, it seems, Bills players get any kind of injury and they're automatically placed on IR and their seasons done. Every situation is different. For example, if, say, Bryan Scott is out 2-4 or 2-6 weeks he likely stays on the team and active roster, because we have George Wilson, and even Cary Harris to play safety. We can hope none of the starters go down until Scott comes back, but even if they do, we won't be sunk without him. Wilson is dependable. But for Mitchell, we only have a rookie Moats and Ellison behind him. Moats is nowhere near ready, and Ellison is too small to play significant snaps. Combine that with Torbor, who can play inside if need be is not ready either, and suddenly if Davis or Poz go down, we're screwed. So we can't afford to wait the two weeks for Mitchell, let alone the four or six.

billsfreak
Feel badly for Mitchell. A weak spot for the Bills becomes weaker; not good. I feel bad for him too. A class act and a heck of a football player when healthy, unfortuneatly he hasn't been able to stay healthy the past few seasons. It is one signing that didn't work out that you really can't criticize the FO for, sense when he came here he didn't have an injury history and he was a big piece of the defense that won the Super Bowl for the Giants a few months before he signed here. I hope he makes it back, but because of these injuries, his career might be winding down, at least as anything more than a situational role player. At the very least signing this guy from Miami might help us gameplan. Edited September 10, 2010 by billsfreak

AllDayADay
When we first switched to a 3-4 and then we got George Edwards. I thought Akin Ayodele was coming here for sure. Then we signed Davis which I also like, but I know Akin has familiarity in George Edwards defense. Kawika looked slow in pre-season, but its still a tough break for him and the team. Akin does a lot of charity work, I know this because I am from south florida and he was getting involved with a charity my mom was organizing. He was with the 'phins last year. He's coming from Denver. Just ball bustin. Edited September 10, 2010 by transient
jabtot
I watched Mitchell all during training camp. It seemed that he was still bothered by the bad knee.
