Jacobs is from Buffalo. So it's plausible.

ugh...I would be happy the Bills would remain in WNY...but VERY pissed that this jackass is the new owner.

I worked for this fool at Delaware North Companies and I think he is such a DICK...and we just got rid of 1 of those!

"This is his hometown, it's also his corporate base, and if the Bills are to move out of Ralph Wilson's control at some point, there are very few people in WNY with the financial wherewithal to keep the team here and Jeremy Jacobs would be one of them," Kelley said. . "... Mr. Jacobs' is a very astute businessman and he knows exactly what the costs would be including trying to find the funds for a new stadium and that would be a priority for any new owner."

Hmmm, so what's not to like?

Bruins fans hate what he's done to the team. The concern is that he continues to be cheap, with the Bills.

Probably more like worked for the guy who worked for the guy who worked for the guy who worked for Jacobs.

Because you don't like the guy we're supposed to prefer the Bills leave town? Oh, I forgot, there are so many other successful DICKS out there who can step in to help save the team.

Jacobs is very unpopular among Boston Bruins fans. This is a fact. If he were part of an ownership group, fine. If he had a controlling interest in the team, I would be less than enthused.

I'd be even less enthused if they were playing in LA or any other town. Like, no enthusiasm, at all.

I would be overjoyed if this happens in any way. The bruins fans hate jacobs because he wouldn't spend 80 million lkike the rangers and red wings while 12k people were attending. He has done fine with a salary cap in place. They are right up against it.

Call me crazy, but it looks here (to me) that there's a hell of a lot more post season activity for the Boston Bruins over the last decade than the Buffalo Bills. I'd take Nancy Pelosi for an owner if it meant keeping the team in Buffalo.

2009 -- defeated Montreal, 4-0, Eastern Conf. quarterfinals

lost to Carolina, 4-3, Eastern Conf. semifinals

2008 -- lost to Montreal, 4-3, Eastern Conf. quarterfinals

2004 -- lost to Montreal, 4-3, Eastern Conf. quarterfinals

2003 -- lost to New Jersey, 4-1, Eastern Conf. quarterfinals

2002 -- lost to Montreal, 4-2, Eastern Conf. quarterfinals

1999 -- defeated Carolina, 4-2, Eastern Conf. quarterfinals

lost to Buffalo, 4-2, Eastern Conf. semifinals

Comparing NHL post seasons activity to NFL post season activity is laughable. Why?

Because making the playoffs in the NHL is a joke to begin with.

In the NHL, you have 15 teams vying for 8 spots.

That means each team has better than a 50% chance of making the playoffs.

In the NFL, you have 16 teams vying for 6 spots.

That means each team has about 38% chance of making the playoffs.

Jacobs is famous for not trying to win. He wants to keep things under budget. All you people who have accused Ralph of being cheap...you're gonna find out what a cheap owner really is!

PTR

Zdeno Chara, Marc Savard, Tim Thomas, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Marco Sturm, Dennis Wideman and Derek Morris -- all Bruins who are making big money -- disagree. The Bruins are fifth in the NHL in cap hit.

Im all for it he seems like a guy who made some mistakes early but learned from them. On the downside I could picture him and erie county getting in some nasty debates over a new stadium.

His mistake was trusting Harry Sinden as long as he did.

hey, there's a plethora of billionaires in WNY just waiting to put in a bid for an NFL team... :worthy:

if you find a time machine and head back to 1902.

Hey, Bob Rich is still around... no, he went to Florida. He was in Cleveland once for the MLB meetings and he was waving a blank check around and when told what the expansion fee would be, promptly barfed all over the Flats.

How bout that Danny Wegman character. Is the Schoellkopf family still around? How bout Tommy G. oh yeah, he also went to Florida.

 ARGH, me and Bobby Rich are gittin booty off da Keys...we plunder the shuffleBORED leagues for rare jewels, spices and BOOTY :devil:

Wait didn't Jacobs live just down the road from the Knoxes? Hell their polo grounds would buy the Bills.

That sounds familiar. The Knoxes have also moved out of the area. Jacobs being tied to a Bills purchase isn't new. Heard this for at least five years now... sell the Bruins, buy the Bills. Is the interest genuine? No idea. IIRC, in the book Swados authored, Jacobs had an interest in being part of ownership for baseball expansion in Buffalo in the 60s? I think that's when Steinbrenner also had an interest there. Swados mentions Jacobs a lot in the book, with much of it being Buffalo-centric not about owning the Bruins so much.

I'm a Sabres fan but I have a few friends that are diehard Bruins fans...even though they're from Depew. Go figure.

Anyways, the Bruins won Stanley Cups in 1970 and 1972.

Jeremy Jacobs bought the team in 1975. The Bruins fans I know revile Jacobs because in spite of operating in the 10th largest metropolitan area in the U.S., Jacobs has been a spendthrift and has more often than not, declined to open the coffers to bring the city a championship. The Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots have all recently won championships for Boston but Jacobs through his actions seems indifferent to that goal.

In Boston and among Bruins fans he has a well-deserved reputation as an owner who is only interested in profit and nothing else.

HurlyBurly, with all due respect man...neither san jose bills fan, nor myself, said ANYTHING about preferring the Buffalo Bills leave town! And yes, I worked for a guy who worked for a guy who worked for a guy who worked for Jacobs...but as stated a few times here, the Bruins fans can't stand this guy.

I was simply saying that we got to meet him once, and he came off as a top notch a-hole!

I would be willing to bet that there are several other people who could buy this team and keep them here...that is the ONLY good thing about Jacobs, is if he buys it, the team MOST LIKELY stays put AND gets a new stadium.

You also must have ZERO sense of humor...as I was cracking a joke (lame? probably!) in the last sentence, referring to Dick Jauron! Lighten up a little bit...and just think, Jacobs will probably be worse for us than Ralph.

Thats it? The only good thing? Pass...:lol:

Did it occur to anyone that owing an NFL team, and owning an NHL team are very different. Guys like Jacobs didn't make their fortunes throwing good money after bad. He would have to try really hard, not to make a profit as an NFL owner, no matter what market. You can't really say the same about the NHL, which as much as I, and most here, love it, has been on life support for the last 25 years or so.

I think being that he is a Buffalonian, who still operates in Buffalo, is a huge difference, than a guy who purchased a franchise in another city (Boston) as an investment. The fact that he is still has a large amount of his fortunes invested in WNY tells me that he he realizes the importance of keeping the franchise in the area.

It is likely that any owner who were to own the Bills is not going to be able to spend as freely as a Jerry Jones, or Dan Snyder type, who have unlimited sources of potential revenue. The Ralph Wilson fan club around here, who insist that he isn't cheap (he has been at key times in this franchise history) can take heart...you can be cheap, and still manage to field a competitive team. If your team is competitive, anything can happen. I think that hope, that having a competitive team, would be enough for most of us. An owner can be frugal, as long as he makes the right decisions. Mr Wilson has made one blundering move after another, which is how we got to this point... I dunno, Jeremy Jacobs doesn't sound like the worst option to me...even if the only things he can bring to the table are just insurance that the franchise stays in WNY, and a new stadium...

You bring back memories of a local bus company mogul offering to build a domed stadium. Ralph didn't want it because he wanted the community to pay for it so he could have exclusive use of it. So how many concerts and other extravaganzas of entertainment have we seen over the years? In the meantime, let the fans freeze their butts for half the home games each year.

jacobs is cheap but he brought in Zedno Chara for a butt load. He is smart, in that they traded thorton and got BETTER. and, since they have implemented a salary cap his teams have always be competitive and he spends to the limit. his "cheap" reputation came in the mid 90s when no one went to bruins games and he wasn't going to pump money into a product that no one was supporting. thats called intelligence.

he is most likely jim kellys "source." thats been my thinking for awhile. either that or one of the riches. jacobs would own them AND still get revenue sharing, of which he didnt have in Boston, as well as no stadium debt. I think he'd be just suitable ot own the bills.

if toronto ticket sales keep sucking i think its plausible we dont need to worry about moving there... they would be stupid to even ask us to play more games there.

WTF!!!!

he has a 20% share in NESN? i'm sorry but he is an effing genious... if he were to sell that and the bruins he'd be netting close to the $600 the canadians are getting. Basically - the better the Red Sox do, the more his stock goes up.

friggin genius of a businessman.

Trust me, a new stadium won't be a GOOD thing for CURRENT Season Ticket holders. If you now have seats on the 50 Yd line, in a new Stadium they will be on the 20 Yd line up about 30 rows in the new Stadium & will cost 2-3 times more money. The BEST thing would be to remodel the Ralph.

We as Bills fans who are also Sabres fans should love him for that alone. He's not from Boston, so he might not care about them winning it all, just the bottom line. Not unlike how Ralph is from Detroit and has been accused of not spending enough to win a championship. But that a local guy would.

This is not a revelation. There have been rumors for decades that the Jacobs family was interested in buying the Bills.

If anything, that makes it more plausible.

I know he's been interested in it for awhile. I just wanted to put something after the link to get conversation started.

At the moment he would have no stadium debt, but how long will that last? Plus, unless he pays cash for the team, he will have debt to pay for the team. No new owner is going to pay cash for the entire team, no one has that kind of money just laying around not invested somewhere else

Goes without saying. Buffalo sports fans always think what they have is the worst and anything else would be an improvement. The carping will never end.

PTR

Yeah, Buffalo fans love the fact that they can sit there and cry about how bad they have it compared to everyone else. They always have to find someone else to be a scape goat for the problems.
