Simms: Gabe Davis is a good player, but he's not a number two
Big Turk replied to SydneyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Replace him with a guy who isn't able to take the top off a defense and see what happens...you wouldn't like it. Since 2020, the only WR with 75+ catches who has a higher yards per reception is Marquez Valdez-Scantling. -
Simms: Gabe Davis is a good player, but he's not a number two
Big Turk replied to SydneyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
What constitutes a "#2 WR"? Because by any metrics you choose to use, Davis is squarely in the middle of #2 WR's compared to his peers in the rest of the NFL. Was last year and is even higher this year...I mean he is #27 in receiving yards this season(#26 if we take out Kelce and only count WRs), which is above #2 levels if we are considering there are 32 #1 WR's and 32 #2 WR's on teams. Also is tied for 4th in TDs, 1 TD behind Diggs, and 11th in Successful play percentage at 66.7%. Interestingly Kincaid is the highest Bill in this category at 68.4% and is 7th. I think what the issue is, is that we see a very few teams with high level, high pick WR 2's like Philadelphia, Cincinnati and San Diego(before Mike Williams got injured) and we assume EVERY #2 WR across the NFL should be putting up those numbers, but what people don't actually realize is that MOST #2 WR's in the NFL are putting up in the range of 600-700 yards in a season, which is a bar Davis easily clears. -
Doug Williams was never "transcendent" nor a star at anytime during his career. He won a Super Bowl, was SB MVP and might have played a few good games here and there, but overall he was worse in Washington than he was in Tampa Bay. Never threw more than 15 TD passes with the Redskins in a season. Never was voted to the Pro-Bowl or All-Pro at any time during his career. Simply put, he played the greatest game of his life in the Super Bowl but outside of that was nothing special. Basically he wasn't even Nick Foles level. Kinda similar to Joe Namath too...everyone remembers the SB guarantee and win but his career numbers are abysmal. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WillDo01.htm

Rich Gannon...was mostly bad in Minnesota, nothing special in Washington or KC, then went to the Raiders and became 2002 MVP, 4x Pro-Bowler and 2x All-Pro. Honestly very similar late career transcendence similar to Geno Smith. Smith hasn't reached that level yet and likely won't due to the number of other great QBs in the league right now, but he played very well last year. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GannRi00.htm Brett Favre was mostly a bust with Atlanta and went to Green Bay,won Super Bowl(s) and became a HOF'er and 2x MVP, 11x Pro-Bowler and 3x All-Pro. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/F/FavrBr00.htm

Not saying he has made any efforts not to see it succeed, just saying this country is so football crazy he could and it would make little difference, people would still watch it.

Colts: Anthony Richardson out for the Season
Big Turk replied to Warcodered's topic in The Stadium Wall
Dude was hurt 3 times in limited action in like 3 or 4 games and is now out for the season...yikes! Colts seem to have no luck drafting QBs that are not walking injuries the last two high picks they used. -
Are people really that unhappy with our 4-2 Bills?
Big Turk replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
You mean they are like every other team in the NFL where they don't always play the same every week and aren't robots? -
NFL wants to eliminate "hip drop" tackles
Big Turk replied to BaaadThingsMan's topic in The Stadium Wall
How do they claim they are so concerned with player safety but still allow teams to play on garbage turf fields like the one at Tottenham's field? Oh...that's right...because it's only an actual concern when it doesn't interfere with money. -
It's not relevant...just like when the cops randomly ask for your ID so they can run a check on you to see if they should arrest you or not even when they have no legal basis for asking for your ID. Like if you are a passenger in a car. Always ask them "Is that a lawful order?" because if they say yes and it's obviously not, like asking a passenger for their ID, depending on the state you are in it can take away their qualified immunity and you can directly sue them then.

Honestly, I don't care about much week to week during the regular season. Nothing really counts until we get to the playoffs. -
That's kinda what I was wondering also, it seemed against Miami they had a whole array of various motions and shifts and then really nothing the last 2 games other than a few short motions or a back shifting from one side to the other behind Allen for protection purposes I am assuming? Do you think Dorsey doesn't do a good enough job of building in answers when he calls a play for a specific coverage but then it ends up not being that coverage? Is that even a thing? I remember we had a lot of success under Daboll on those Allen audibled "Gold Rip/Whip" screens to Brown but those have largely disappeared other than a few screen-like plays to players out of the backfield on swing passes behind the LOS, which seem to be largely WR's(Harty, Diggs, Shakir), but in general our screen game is terrible...and I don't think it should be...they have enough athletic OLinemen to make that work better. What do you think the issue is with that? Why do other teams have such great screen games and ours is so bad? Seems so weird we used to have the best screen game in the NFL under Gailey and now it's among the worst. You would think the concepts would be taught the same way that there wouldn't be as huge of a difference between them...seems the Bills RBs are never open on screens and Allen has to turf it usually. Also seem to like running TE screens to Knox which often times gets turfed too since he is covered or there are a large number of bodies around him.

Or when there isn't much to do because it's going to succeed even if your best efforts were to cause it not to.

To be fair he did mention in a post below that this isn't dissimilar to other teams, just that other teams do a better job dressing it up better at times. Also, since you brought up spacing...do you feel the Bills have a spacing problem too often on routes? Have seen this brought up before many times going back to last year where receivers are often times very close to each other downfield on plays when it would seem to make more sense to have them further apart to create better windows and less defenders in the area. I get that in some concepts like rubs and stacks, etc the receivers will be close together at the line, but usually those players all end up in different places on the field and not close together like seems to be the case on some plays where Bills players are covered well.

You realize that we beat bad teams far more often than any other team in the NFL does and far worse also right? Guess we will see. Defense doesn't seem to really do much in the playoffs much anymore for anyone. At least not when it's a very good offense. It's all about scoring points. Did you watch the Super Bowl?

Nice clip of Williams doing something Edmunds didn't do enough of here...disengage from a blocker and make a tackle on the RB near the LOS.

Week 7 Bills @ Patriots - on to Foxborough!

Belichick has literally had no answers for Allen defensively other than 70 mph winds. -
Was Elam ok or could the Giants just not take advantage of him?
Big Turk replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall
No TDs and only 1 big play. Not the best, but not terrible either. -
How often has that happened that we got "beat"? You realize the Bills have the best record in the NFL since 2020 right? They also lead the NFL in point differential during that time by something like 170 points over 2nd place Kansas City. They also lead the NFL in allowing the fewest points in the NFL with an average of 18.9 points against. Like literally, WTF are you talking about? Next time have some actually real basis for the points you are trying to bring up, because the only basis for this is in fantasyland. Talk about having no perspective of the rest of the NFL.

This is patently false. The Bills are notoriously not great on D on first drives but then improve as the game goes on by leaps and bounds. Go back to last year and see how many teams scored on first drives against us and then see what they did for the rest of the game. Usually it was not much. Bills adjust on D exceptionally well as the game goes on. especially after seeing what the other team is trying to do.
