  1. What Scouts see in Gabbert is actually pretty simple...They see a Kid that is a SUPER smart, athletic QB with a great arm...He's a Project for certain, but he starts off with an incredible amount on his side...There are HOF QB's with FAR worse College Stats than Gabbert...But he's not a sure thing by any means...He is crystal clean off the field, he's a good leader, and he LOVES Football...The Kid is driven to be the best...He has the right attitude...Scouts believe there is no such thing as a College QB who is ready for the NFL regardless...Some are more ready than others, but none come out 100% prepared...So it's going to take Coaching an patience regardless...Keeping that in mind Gabbert is about as safe a bet as you're going to get...The Kid is going to bust his tail, he's got a ton of natural athletic ability, and he certainly seems smart enough to grasp an entire NFL Playbook... That's what Scouts see in Blaine Gabbert...
  2. Well...There really is no question that Fairley is a bigger play-maker than Dareus...I also think he's a better fit for the 5-technique in the 3-4 because I think he'll be a better Pass rusher than Dareus there...But Dareus brings a little more flexiblity in that he could also give you time at NT... Fairley is REALLY suffering from the "one year wonder" tag...To his credit he came alive in that one year to be a dominant force, probably the most dominant player in College Football last year outside of his Offensive Teammate...But it scares some Scouts to death that he was on that Auburn Roster in 2009, played, and only had 28 Tackles and one Sack...I saw the Kid on NFL Network the other day and he seems to be a genuine decent guy...Folks are making WAY too big a deal about him being off the field at times because it was a forced rotation at Auburn...He was not taking himself out...The talk about him falling asleep in Meetings seems to be true, but they discovered he had Sleep Apnea...So he was not getting enough sleep at night and of coarse that made him exhausted during the day...He now sleeps hooked up to the breathing machine and says that since then he's never had a problem staying awake during the day...So that seems to be taken care of... All I know is this...When I saw Suh in College he reminded me of Reggie White...Some were saying Gerald McCoy was a better Pro Prospect but I was not biting on that...Suh was an absolute animal...McCoy was real good...But Suh was a beast...I look at the Fairly/Dareus thing similarly...One (Dareus) looks really good...VERY solid in most areas...The other looks like Bruce freaking Smith out there...Fairley looks like the type of Kid that is not going to be blocked when he does not want to be blocked...I like both Dareus and Fairley...I don't think you can go wrong with either to be honest...But I think Fairley has rare upside...He has HOF upside if he works hard enough...The sky is the limit for that Kid...
  3. Well...There is talk that Denver is split on Miller and Dareus...I think if Denver went Miller they just made The Bills decision that much easier (assuming Newton goes #1)...I think The Bills would take Dareus over Miller...There's also plenty of Folks who still think Dareus goes #1 and Miller goes #2...Not saying I think that will happen because I don't...But it would make things REAL interesting at #3...
  4. So one "Rouge Scout" says Locker is the next Favre and it sticks huh?... Just kidding with you...Actually Locker's Stats are a little better than Favre's were at Southern Miss...Especially TD's to INT's...I have not been much of a Locker Fan all along...The Completion % just scares me...But the more I hear Scouts talk about him and the more I hear about all the dropped Passes I start coming around a bit on the Kid...I read an article that said if you gave Locker half...HALF the dropped Passes that hit Receivers in the hands his Completion % would have been over 60%...He does seem to be a genuinely good guy who really loves Football and is going to give a maximum effort...He's another great athlete at the QB Position...I think he would definitely be worth #34 Overall...But most feel he'll be LONG gone by then...We'll see...
  5. First off, no one is Picking Christian Ponder at #3 so you can relax... Secondly, I know it's just your opinion, but I don't think any QB is a reach at #3 IF The Bills are convinced that guy is going to be a 10 year plus Franchise QB...None of them are ready now, but it's the QB Position we're talking about...Where would Joe Flacco or Aaron Rodgers go in a re-Draft? Granted not all of them make it...that's part of the whole equation...But a Franchise QB trumps all...Something that seems to be lost on a lot of people... I agree that a Trade down for a QB would be ideal, but it depends on what QB you are Trading Down for...If the target is Blaine Gabbert the Bills could not Trade down and still expect to secure him...Just about everyone thinks Arizona will take Gabbert if he's there at #5...Some even think he'll go to Cincy at #4...If Mallett or Locker is the target then the Bills could probably Trade down a few spots...But how far? It can be argued that Cincy, Arizona, San Fran, Minnesota, Tennessee, Washington, and Miami may take QB's...So should The Bills target another QB it's going to be like navigating a mine field to do so...And I just don't see this bunch being the type of Front Office to carry out such a task successfully...One thing I am VERY much against is a Trade up back into the 1st Round to secure Ponder or Dalton...I think that would be a mistake...This Team needs more Draft Picks not less... Who knows though? We'll see soon enough...
  6. You see Bang, for some Folks here at TSW every QB coming out of College can somehow be compared to Trent, JP, or RJ...It seems to be a new Scouting System discovered by certain disgruntled Bills Fans...
  7. Is there someplace where they explain how they come to their rankings? Is it a Scouts Site or an actual Muncher? I was just wondering if they were actually tracking a consensus somehow, or if it was just the name...Thanks...
  8. It's an NFL Scouts Job to investigate these things ad nauseam...The truth is no matter how much they try to look into this stuff it does not stick to Mallett at all...Listen to what The Bills own Scout said about Mallett and the rumors...Listen yourself... Bills Scout On Mallett And why not rise above a bit? Try not to be part of the machine that spreads this kind of crap...If you don't like the Kid as a QB fine...I totally understand that because plenty of Scouts don't think he'll be good enough...But spreading unfounded rumors, especially as serious as these, is just not what a decent person would do whatsoever...
  9. Mayock has moved Newton ahead of Locker now... I think Mayock also feels Mallett is a better NFL Prospect than Locker but drops him behind due to the off-field stuff...No question he puts Locker ahead of the rest...He is VERY concerned about Locker's accuracy, but does feel it's fixable...I've never been able to figure out why Mayock is higher on Locker than most...I think he does love the Kid off-the-field, and that has a lot to do with it...
  10. Agreed...Out of all these prospect QB's Locker is the single one I want the Bills to steer clear of...I'm not crazy about some others don't get me wrong...But to me Locker simply does not have the make-up coming out whatsoever...Just my opinion though...
  11. Agreed... No question the whole idea of Drafting a QB, and I'm assuming the one that is going to be there is Gabbert, should be determined by the level of confidence The Bills have in said QB...NO question if they pass on Gabbert at #3 they are making a statement that they don't think he is going to develop into a Franchise QB... I don't disagree either that the Bills MAY choose high again in 2012...But I do doubt it will be THIS high...I look at the 2011 Schedule and I see 6-10 or 7-9...They went 4-4 in the last 8 Games last season...The Defense will be better if only because they have a year under their belt in the new scheme and Wannstedt is on board now...They will be relying heavily on Merriman as well as youth from this Draft and the 2011 Draft...But there will be talent on that Defensive side...They really can't get much worse on Defense regardless...I just don't see a doom and gloom-type Season in 2011...I see a Jauron-type Season where The Bills are close in most Games, but lose more than they Win...I think any chance of Drafting in a position to sniff Luck next year is slim and none...And as they say in the dirty south, Slim done left Town... But that's just my take on it...In the end I really have no idea...
  12. That's what I've been thinking all along...If you listen to the Presser and how much time the Scouting Staff put in on Gabbert alone I think it's a CLEAR indication The Bills are prepared to take a QB if they think they have the right guy... One thing I noticed in the Scouts Press Conference that is up on The Bills Official site right now was that it's CRYSTAL clear the Bills philosophy at QB is that EVERY College QB has a huge learning curve...Even the ones who run "Pro-style" Systems in College have a ton to learn in the NFL regardless...So I get the feeling that as an Organization they are much more concerned with the overall ability and smarts a QB brings to the table...And not so much necessarily about his NFL readiness...The Bills have a Starter for the 2011 Season anyway...They are looking for 2012 and beyond... So knowing all that, when I see a Prospect like Gabbert I have to wonder exactly what it would be that would stop The Bills from taking him at #3 overall...And I'll grant anyone the fact that the Kid is not ready to be an NFL Starter today...But he's a tremendous athlete who is SUPER smart, driven, prepared, hard-working, has real good arm, etc, etc...The Kid looks born to play QB...And assuming The Bills are dead serious about taking a QB in this Draft, and also assuming they believe that ANY Prospect QB has a massive learning curve, I wonder why they would pass on Gabbert for an OLB?....I realize there is risk involved, but all indications are The Bills understand those risks and want to have a cornerstone at QB to re-build this Team around...It's the single Position in the NFL that no one wants to try and just "get by" at...And while many around here believe The Bills get some comfort in knowing Gailey can get the most out of limited talent, I think Football men like Nix and Gailey sit up all night dreaming about what they could do with a QB who has talent like Gabbert...Why would a guy like Gailey not want to try and mold an All-Pro? Would the best mechanic not want the best tools? Just food for thought...
  13. Right because they MAY lose to the more talented #2 Seed in a 7 Game Series...That's "utter failure" huh?
  14. Thanks for looking in your crystal ball and giving me a heads up... I'll remember...And I'm betting Gabbert will be a Player...Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not...But we'll see...
  15. Chances are actually pretty good there is...All a few of these guys would have to do is have better than a 73 QB rating and a 12-23 record after 35 NFL Starts...We're not talking about Peyton Manning here...I think the chances of a Kid like Gabbert becoming a Top 10 QB in the NFL are every bit as good as Fitz, who is still far from being a top 10 NFL QB, improving and being able to maintain that improvement over the next few years...But maybe that's just me...
  16. Well I can understand if someone does not want to use a high 1st rounder on Gabbert...I disagree...But I understand...Kind of Alex Smith fear, and I get it...But this stuff about Gabbert being pumped up because Luck did not come out is really unfounded...Let's say Luck is in this Draft...He goes #1 overall...We all know that...Then you have the exact same Draft with the exact same Prospects from #2 on...No way Gabbert gets beyond all these QB needy Teams...Buffalo, Cincy, Arizona, Washington, Miami, Minnesota...He's not going to drop far...A Bills Scout (the Presser is up on buffalobills.com) said it perfectly..."That's exactly how you would draw up a QB, with his (Gabbert's) size, physical tools, and want to..." You asked what everyone sees in him...Well no question he has the physical tools but that Kid is super smart and driven...He's a Football junkie with amazing smarts...Gabbert does have a lot to learn...No question...But it's a gamble on greatness...And at the QB Position, I'm OK with that gamble...Especially when you have a Coach like Gailey at the helm, and a QB on the Roster that can start the 2011 Season while Gabbert learns the system and the NFL...
  17. I don't know Pete... This Team, as is with all those injuries, was 4-4 to finish off the 2010 Season...You're 100% right that a Rookie QB is not going to help the Defense but if he's the right guy he's going to be the difference in a HUGE way from 2012 and on...If you want to win in 2011, and that is the goal, then no way do you take a QB...But really does anyone think the goal is to win in 2011? If you're convinced there is a Franchise QB available and you want the chance to win and be a perennial Playoff Team for the next 10-15 years, then you take the QB while you're up there...Because chances are VERY small The Bills will Pick this high again...VERY small...And if they do Draft #1 Overall in 2012 then you have options...A TON of options...I don't see it happening (Drafting #1 overall in 2012) though no matter who they pick...What I do see happening if they go Defense heavy at the Top of this Draft is the Bills going 6-10 and still having a HUGE hole at the most important Position on the Team... Just my opinion though...I like Miller a heck of a lot...I just want to see The Bills get a big time QB and stop playing around at that Position...I think they can improve on D simply by Drafting heavy there in Rounds 4-7 and add that to the guys they picked up last Season. Those Players along with being more familiar with the scheme should help plenty on Defense...We'll see though...
  18. We'll see about that in a few years...
  19. Fair enough...I think, minus the meltdown factor of coarse, he would be a heck of a good fit for Gailey to mentor...Sit behind Fitz for a year and see what happens...Plus you have a Vet #2...But that meltdown factor is a HUGE factor...
  20. Why does every potential QB have to compare one way or the other to RJ, Losman, or Edwards around here???...Pull you head out of the black hole that is Buffalo Bills Football and do a little homework before comparing a Kid like Gabbert to Rob freaking Johnson...No body, and I mean NO BODY in the know is comparing Gabbert to RJ...NO ONE...There is a reason Rob Johnson went in the 4th Round...Gabbert produced plenty in College...He threw for over 6800 yards and 40 TD's and was 18-8 in two years as a Starter at Missouri...That's right Missouri, not USC...Gabbert scored almost 20 points higher on the Wonderlic than RJ...he's just a WAY better Pro Prospect than RJ was... I've heard Gabbert compared favorably to Matt Ryan...NOT Rob Johnson...
  21. That is an INCREDIBLY misinformed statement...There is so much ridiculous speculation/opinion in that statement it's really not worth a reply...Gabbert used the tool the NFL gives every underclassmen and was told he was a high 1st Round Prospect...It's got nothing to do with Andre Luck...Have you even watched a freaking game that Gabbert has played? There was a reason Modrak and The Bills Brass spent so much time Scouting Gabbert this past Season...And it's not because he was a 2nd Round Prospect...Mike Mayock has him rated the #5 Overall Prospect in this Draft and that guy does not overrate ANYONE due to hype...Charlie Casserly says Gabbert is a better Prospect coming out than Mark Sanchez or Joe Flacco was...Michael Lombardi thinks Gabbert should be the #1 Overall Pick this year...It's not PR...Watch the tape...Here I'll get you started... It's not Gabberts best Game either...He makes a VERY bad decision in the 4th Quarter that costs Missouri the Game...But you can't deny the way the Kid flings the ball around, as smart as he is, as hard as he works, as athletic as he is, he's got big-time potential...He's definitely a Top 15 Prospect QB in ANY NFL Draft...
  22. I'm no where near as high on Wilson as some...The neck injury is one reason, he plays a bit out of control at times, and the Kid has some off-the-field question marks...I'm not saying I would not take him...But definitely not at the top of the 2nd Round...If the Bills pass on a QB at #3 they better take one at #34...And it shocks me that any Bills Fan would choose to pass on Ponder in this scenario knowing our QB situation...No back-up QB (and please don't give me the Levi Brown crap)...Fitz's deal is up after 2011...How can you not take a QB here? You counting on Seneca Wallace or Matt Leinart? Maybe we can bring Todd Collins back?
