  1. I hear what you're saying...But you've got one player who was a one hit wonder as a DE in the Big Ten and another who was All-World at the QB position and CLEARLY the best Player in College Football...There is a difference between how they look at a DE and how they look at a 6-6 Heisman Trophy winning QB out of the SEC...You know as well as I do, regardless of what Nix has said, they're going to look at Newton differently...That may be good or bad for Newton...I'm not sure...I'm just saying, if they like him and he's there, they're going to take him... And I'm not saying I want the Bills to Draft Newton either...I am saying it's a HUGE possibility... I will go on record right now and say I'm dead set against them Drafting Betty White...
  2. VERY true... Thing is if you had a re-Draft all of those guys would go high in the 1st Round...Brady, Montana and Favre would go #1 overall...So while it's true that great, Hall Of Fame QB's can be had outside the 1st Round, it's also true that the reason for that is crappy Scouting throughout the league...I often here "no one could have know this one or that one was going to be great." Well...Is it not their job to know?...Just saying... Your logic would apply to any position outside of QB...No offense but I really can't understand how Fans of the NFL don't get this...QB is never looked at in the same light as other positions...Unless QB is a clear and obvious strength on your Team there is always the potential that you will take a QB high if the right one is available and your FO loves the guy...How in the world has this fact gotten lost on NFL Fans?...I just don't get it? And yes there is most definitely a chance that the QB you Pick will be a bust...It's probably a higher chance than most other positions...It's classic risk vs reward stuff though...Most Teams will risk the high pick, assuming they do not have a Franchise-type in house, if they think the potential reward is a Franchise guy...I swear to Y'all it really is that simple... So the only question you need to ask yourself is this...Do Nix and Gailey think Fitz is a Franchise QB? Cause that is the only question that matters in this discussion...If the answer is yes they will more than likely go Defense in the 1st Round...If the answer is no, and they really like a QB that is available when they Pick, they WILL take that QB...Period...End of story...It wont matter if we have zero LB's and DE's on the roster at the time...They will take that QB...
  3. Tell it to Nix and Gailey not me...If they like Newton and he's there when we Pick he'll be a Buffalo Bill...It's really that simple...
  4. If you're assuming The Bills will not take a QB in the 1st Round, and you think that's a good thing, you may be setting yourself up for a HUGE disappointment... If you're Gailey and you want to hand pick a student as you say, why in the word would you want to wait and choose from the Lockers and Ponders if you have a chance to Draft from the Newtons and Malletts?...If he wants a QB he's going to take the one he wants...And if he wants Cam Newton he's going to take him in the Top 5, or Trade down a bit...Same with Mallett...So nothing is obvious or guaranteed just yet...We'll see how it all plays out...
  5. I heard that and flipped out when he said it...I was on the phone with a freind and I was going off on that idiot Sanders...He's clueless, but the real question is who is more clueless, Sanders or Irvin? I can't watch either of them for more than 60 seconds without throwing up in my mouth a little bit... The Jets may be a MUCH better Team than the Bills and they may very well blow The Bills out...But it wont be because the Bills are "running for the bus." And I hope like hell Gaily gets a hold of that quote on Game week...That should fire this bunch up a bit... The point was not that Sanders thought the Jets were the better Team, he guaranteed a victory because he basically said the Bills will have quit by then...
  6. QB is NEVER just another need...EVER... While QB may not necessarily be the problem right now in Buffalo Nix, the Scouts, Gailey and his Coaches are all busy trying to determine if it's a strength...And they will break down every aspect of Fitz's game (which includes him being the 19th Ranked Passer with the 25th best Completion % in the NFL)...If Fitz's is not clearly a strength in Nix and Gailey's eyes, and there is a QB available in Round #1 that the FO is high on, they WILL take the QB...It's a gamble on greatness...It's the right move...If DE and QB are both needs, but DE is a bigger need and you have a QB Rated as high or higher than any DE in the Draft, almost any NFL Team is going to take that QB almost 100% of the time...That's just the way it is...So for example...If the Bills have Cam Newton rated the same or slightly higher than Nick Fairley, you can pretty much take it to the bank that they are going to take Newton if both are available when they Pick... And while there is a QB just about every year that NFL Scouts misjudge and over-value, there's also a Franchise QB leading his Team to a Super Bowl victory that same year...So QB is King...always will be...And those of you who think just because Fitz is having a career year the Bills will automatically turn away from QB in the 1st Round...Well...You can go ahead and think that all you want...But just be prepared to be let down if Luck comes out and Newton rises on the Bills board... I'm not saying the Bills will take a QB either...I'm only saying if the Grades are equal, or even close to equal, they will take the QB regardless of how the needs line up...And don't forget Ralph is already on record saying they want a QB...
  7. How the hell is the comparison stupid? Because Fitz was such a great Pocket Passer before Gailey got here? And Why the freak do you have to insult the guy?...He brings up a valid comparison concerning our HC and you call him stupid? It's Posts like this that prove beyond a shadow of a doubt why this board has continued to decline in overall class year in and year out...Show a little respect and grow up a bit...It was not a stupid comparison whatsoever...Give your counter argument without the insult...
  8. He was 19...He's fully admitted to being immature then...He says he did not grow up until he went to JC... I'm not saying that Newton does not have some MAJOR red flags he needs to overcome for an NFL Team to consider him with a Top 5 Draft choice...I am saying from a TON of personal experience what he did at 19 may very well have no bearing on the adult and Pro he'll turn out to be...In fact I think it's actually a positive most of this stuff came to light BEFORE the Draft and not after...Teams will dig REAL deep now...Newton will have to prove he's a better Kid/Man...We'll see soon enough what Teams find out...
  9. I'm not the biggest Newton Fan...I worry about his maturity in the step-up...at least initially...But honestly, if you think the praise for the Kid is generated by Mel Kiper there's no way you've seen him play one single Down of Football...I could care less how he worded a sentence, he was far and away the best player in College Football playing in the best Conference in College Football...He has all the natural ability in the world to not just succeed, but to excel in the next level...And he seems like a pretty bright Kid... I have no idea how Newton will turn out as a Pro...It's a HUGE jump no matter how talented any player is...But he's not all hype...And a Team like The Bills taking a gamble on him makes perfect sense...I'm guessing right now if Luck comes out, the odds are better than 50/50 Newton is wearing a Buffalo Bills Uniform this time next year...
  10. The Bills have shown they can move the Ball sometimes...Most definitely against poorer Defensive Teams...Fred Jackson is still a weapon, and when Stevie is holding on to the ball they definitely can be OK on Offense...But after watching the Minnesota Game and the 1st half of Cincy and Pittsburgh, I'm not so sure anything is actually "proven" yet...It's better than it was with Edwards...That much is proven... We can argue all day about where winning Teams are built...I'm going to stand behind the argument that 85% of the Teams that have won the Super Bowl over the past 20 years were built around a Star QB...And sure I know the counter argument that QB's like Brady and Brees were not Drafted in the Top 10...But folks are using the example of poor Scouting to make that argument...In a Re-Draft Brady goes #1 Overall in 2000, Brees goes Top 5 in 2001, and so on...They're still Franchise QB's their SB winning Teams built around, the fact that their Teams lucked out and got them as bargains along the way does not mean they "built through the trenches" necessarily...The Pats made a TON of Pick high at Defensive Line over the years...But without Brady they are not 3 time SB Champs...Probably not one time SB Champs for that matter... I've seen it written around her often enough...QB is not a problem on this Team...As as a statement of fact I agree...But what is the real question The Bills Front Office will be asking themselves? They're looking at Drafting high in the 1st Round with as many as 3 QB's potentially available with Top 10 Grades...The REAL question is if QB is a strength on this Team, not if QB is a problem...There is a difference...It's a HUGE difference...And though I'm not so sure about the futures of any QB Prospects coming out in 2011 (and I'm not going to necessarily endorse Newton, Luck, or Mallett either just yet), I'm on record saying IF the Bills have a QB Graded that high and they Draft the Kid, it's the right move...At this point of a total re-build you HAVE to take the chance on the QB if you want to take the fast track to Playoff Football...It's also proven that there's no such thing as a sure thing...So that being considered why not gamble on greatness?...
  11. LOL...This is MY topic!!! Over the past 20 years I've had Brother cats named Cornelius and Thurman...My 3rd Cat was Gabe (yep, after Gabe Northern)...Sister cats named Kelly and Sammie (after Sam Cowart)...Another cat named Antoine (after Winfield not Smith) who died WAY too young unfortunately...And my current Cat Reuben!!! I had a Varactyl Pet on Star Wars Galaxies named Pozilla... I was going to name My Cocker Spaniel Leodis, but I settled on Leonidas instead...
  12. Right because that's what I meant...We should Trade down and not get equal value in return...Even though I was simply responding to a Post that said it's never done anymore so forget about it...And The Bills have not screwed themselves by staying put and always Drafting the wrong guy? Thanks for pointing out the obvious PTR...I had no idea there was value to be concerned with...
  13. Since when? It's always possible...Cleveland got a 1st and a 2nd to Trade down from #5 in 2009...Miami got a 1st, 2nd, and a 4th last year to Trade WAY down with SD from #12...Where there is a will there is a way...The Bills simply don't have the will, or the brains for that matter to turn the Draft in their favor...They'll stay put and do something stupid again...Mark it down!
  14. Honestly it was not close at all between Ngata and McCargo coming out...McCargo was a Freshman All american and All-ACC Honerable mention in 2004...Then that was about it...Not that he was bad...But he was no where near Ngata...Ngata was all-world and the only question with him was if he played too high if I remember right...He dominated in College...He was consensus All American in 2005...He was generally thought to be a MUCH better prospect than Whitner, let alone McCargo...McCargo was the 3rd Rated DT in the Draft but everyone knew the gap between 2nd and 3rd was wide...The problem was the gap between 3rd and 4th was thought to be wider and the Bills panicked...Little did they know they ended up getting the 3rd best, maybe the 2nd best DT with the 1st Pick in the 5th round...But that was the Levy led Bills for you...It was a cluster...
  15. I'll tell you what...I'll take Manning and you take Fitz and we'll see who wins faster OK? Nothing like TBD entertainment...
  16. If they pick the right guy...and I'm not saying I know who that guy is...But if they pick the right QB they won't be forcing anything... And that's not anything against Fitz either...But there is a good chance at least one QB from the 2011 Draft not named Luck will end up being better than Fitz as a Pro...And if the Bills Drafted that guy it would go a long way in pushing this Team forward...
  17. So there's something positive about the way the Bills have Drafted in the 1st Round over the past 10 years or so? Don't give me this negative nancy bullspit...It's said time and time again great Teams are built through the Draft...Well The Buffalo Bills have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that really bad Teams come from years and years of Drafting poorly in the 1st Round...Years, and years, and years...Going all the way back to Eric Flowers in 2000, it's been laundry list of poor Draft Day decisions that almost defy logic to a point...It's almost impossible to make this many poor choices, and miss on this many good players while doing so...And that is EXACTLY why The Bills basically suck...So I think it's a pretty good discussion to have... Eric Flowers was bad...Especially considering Keith Bullock went 4 Picks later...But I think it all REALLY started when The Bills Picked Mike Williams over Bryant McKinnie, John Henderson, Dwight Freeney, or Albert Haynesworth...That really hurt...Dallas Clark went one Pick after Wills McGahee...Think he would have made a difference? Lee Evans was not a bad Pick, but Tommie Harris, Vince Wilfork, and Will Smith were all available there, and I think it certainly can be argued that they are better at their positions than Lee is at his...JP Losman? The Bills could have Traded DOWN from the 2nd Round that year and still landed Matt Schaub...Then the next year The Bills Draft another WR with their 1st Pick in the 2005 Draft, and he's smaller than Lee Evans...Justin Tuck was available when Roscoe came off the Board...Whitner over Ngata may go down as as one of the worst decisions in a Buffalo Bills Draft Room EVER...Yep...EVER...They needed a DT and passed on the guy who would be arguably the best in the NFL for an undersized SS...At #8 nonetheless...No need to think about a 3-4 when you have Ngata and Kyle Williams in the middle of a 4-3 from their Rookie years on...Good thing for Whitner The Bills would make and even bigger blunder in the 2009 Draft...It makes taking him over Ngata look OK in comparison...But I'll get to that in a second...Darrelle Revis went 2 picks after Marshawn Lynch in 2007...In 08 Ryan Clady went one Pick after McLovin and there was PLENTY of talent on the Board besides Clady...Now for 2009's decision...The Bills needed help at Rushing the Passer...They had their pick of OLB/DE types...They could have had Orakpo and that would have been a good solid Pick there, but most importantly they could have had the beast that is Clay Matthews Jr. who has...get this...22 sacks, 78 Solo Tackles, 2 TD's and an INT in only 27 Games Played... ...And now we have CJ Spiller who was supposed to be the human-highlight-reel but instead looks like the human-dear-in-the headlights most of the time...And I know he got hurt yesterday, but it seems to me the Cowboys got the human-highlight-reel at #24 Overall with Dez Bryant...The Bills could have Traded Down and stockpiled picks and still landed Bryant easily... So I think it's pretty relevant that, right here today, the Bills could have had a Team with McKennie (or Freeny), Will Smith, Matt Schaub, Justin Tuck, Ngata, Revis, Clady, Matthews Jr, and Bryant...Folks might not like the truth, or the history, but it is what it is...And it's most definitely the reason this Team is exactly where it is today...I really don't understand why anyone would expect anything other than negativity on this topic...What is there to be positive about?...You can only get so much mileage out of Kyle Williams...
  18. If Tim Tebow was a 1st Round Draft Pick you can take it to the bank that Cam Newton will be as well...That's not saying anything about how good Newton will end up being...But some Team is going to take Newton earlier than maybe they should...I doubt he'll be around in the 2nd Round...
  19. Like I've been saying for a while now...Fitz has earned the right to go further...But The Bills BETTER have a Plan B in place for 2011 and beyond...That's all...
  20. Exactly... I freaked out a bit on Draft Day...I just thought it was a stupid move for a Team that already had 2 decent RB's...After the Lynch Trade I was OK, but I can't possibly put into words how disappointed I am in Spiller so far...He has so greatly underachieved to this point I think there needs to be a better word for this level of under-achievement...Like some sort of super under-achievement...Hyper under-achievement?... I don't know... Seriously though I think many Bills Fans thought Spiller was going to be the highlight of a Team desperate for talent...The fact that it has yet to happen is concerning mainly because The Bills have been so terrible at Drafting in the 1st Round you have to wonder if it's some sort of curse...Maybe a hyper-curse of some sort?...Who knows... Don't know... But it's DEFINITELY too early to call him any type of success...That's for certain...
  21. Whitner, Lynch, McLovin, Maybin, and Spiller... This Team could run a clinic on how NOT to pick in the 1st Round of The Draft... If it was not true no one would believe it...
  22. I went with Fitzgibbons, but I'm worried he's going to shave that thing eventually...Then we're going to have to start all over again...
  23. Agreed... This is a serious decision with Whitner...Like many of you I simply don't believe he's going to be worth whatever they are going to give him...He's a former #8 Overall Draft Pick...He's NOT going to be looking to take a pay cut...His Rookie Deal was 5 years $29 million...So the The Bills are going to pony up over $6 million per year for Whitner??? Really? This IS NOT going to help build that Defense into a contender. The Bills are only going to spend so much...This is not the Redskins or the Cowboys...Overspending for a Player like Whitner is just dumb...I'm not sure I would re-sign him at a Home Town discount let alone give the guy a freaking raise... This should be interesting...
  24. Sorry I know at this point I should not laugh at the old jokes...I'm no spring chicken myself...But it always cracks me up for some reason...
  25. Oh boy here we go again! I'll start off by saying I really have nothing against Fitz...Though I think The Bills better have a solid Plan B behind him...Anyway...I'm AOK with trying to build around Fitz for now... But comparing 1st Ballot HOF QB's to Fitz, in any way at this point, is a bit ridiculous...Plus even with Aikman it took 2 Trades that could never happen again in a million NFL years to build those Championship Cowboys Teams...I think a much better comparison could be the Ravens and Trent Dilfer...Though Fitz may very well have a bigger upside than Dilfer did...Still, The Bills are going to have to build one hell of a good Defense to win a Championship with Fitz at QB... The truth is if they had a QB in House that was the caliber of Troy Aikman the re-building process (in order to get to a Championship level) would be easier...I'm not sure how much easier...But easier nonetheless...Cause Fitz is no Aikman, Kelly, Young, Montana, or the like...And these comparisons have to stop before my head explodes...
