Does it matter? Opponents move the ball at will no matter what they attempt to do. Oh wait, am I allowed to say that or is somebody going to start a thread letting me know that this kind of talk isn't okay?
-
Yes, it is just a job well done by all the OLs and RBs that have wracked up yardage on the ground against this D. The D played well every single week and just happened to go against teams that should be credited for a job well done.
-
Okay, but why aren't we throwing intermediate routes? 10-20 yard crossing patters, outs, or curls? Decent chunks of yardage that keep the chains moving and make it much easier for the offense to score. It takes 13+ play drives to score when the O is consistently throwing 5-yard patters. It also makes the O much easier to defend, as the D doesn’t have to concern itself with the entire field. It also means that there are more opportunities for drive killing mistakes to happen. One holding call kills a drive for an offense that can’t complete a pass over 10 yards. I also don’t buy it that the OL is the reason that Holcomb isn’t throwing the ball over 10 yards in the air. It doesn’t take that much time for a WR to run 15 yards downfield, a few seconds of protection, combined with a quick read can give ample time to throw a 15 yard pattern.

I just wish they'd reign in Adams. Sure, the strength of his game is shooting the gap quickly and disrupting the play, but given what has occurred this year they need to change the scheme and make him responsible for two gaps and hold up a few lineman at the point of attack. The guy has the body and the strength for it. I recall last year when they made him do this he complained about it saying that they weren't utilizing his talents. That may be true, but this D needs a guy to clog the middle and Anderson isn't getting it done.

Possible LA relocation (Bills mention)
MDH replied to Pennsyl-tucky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, its my understanding that the Chargers are the most likely team to move (well, other than the Saints, but I don't think they're going to LA). -
Fans complain when the team loses.

I'm all for JP starting, but not this week. It would be like throwing him to the wolves to put him back in there for a prime time game on the road against the Super Bowl champs. Let Holcomb go this weekend and unless the Bills pull off the huge upset put Losman back in coming off the bye week against KC.

Who knows if the Bills, or anyone, could land Pioli, but just because he turned down one job doesn't mean he'll never take a GM job with another team.

The Most Disgusting Run Defense Ever
MDH replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, Dillion does fit in with the rest of the RBs that have owned us this year. Many of them were "struggling" in the games preceding the Bills game. Of course, our D is a magical elixir for struggling RBs. It turns them into LT for a game. -
If the Bills got rid of TD Pioli is the guy I'd like to see brought in to replace him. As for coach, I'd let Pioli worry about that.

Who's To Blame for the Offense's Inability

But, but, but Holcomb has a completion percentage of 70%! That means he did a good job! -

We're not talking about throwing the ball down field, we're talking about a 15 yard crossing pattern or a 15 yard curl. Anything other than dumping the ball off. Even on an all out blitz the WRs can easily get 15 yards down field. The QB has to pull the trigger though. That being said, you're right, the Oline's pass protection is horrid, but it's not the reason we can't even attempt a pass of more than 10 yards in the air. -
lets just put this out in the open right now

I don't even need him to go deep that often (though sometimes would be nice), I jus want to see some intermediate stuff out of the guy. Dumping the ball off over and over again just isn't going to get it done, partially with Ds having more tape of our O and what they try to do. If Holcomb doesn’t start using the entire field this O is never going to improve. Granted, it isn’t all on Holcomb’s shoulders, the Oline needs to pass protect much better as well. -
It wouldn't surprise me at all to see something similar to the above come to fruition. Of course, this has nothing to do with how good (or bad) I think the Bills are, it has to do with what would be the worst possible scenario for the Bills this year. In the past five years I’ve come to expect the worst for the Bills and, for the most part, they've obliged. The Bills hanging around the playoff picture all year only to not qualify pretty much hits the worst possible scenario thing on the head. JP doesn’t get to develop, we get a lower draft pick and not enough gets done in the off season to push this team over the playoff hump because we were “almost there”.

I would have prefered seeing a pass on 3rd down and a FG on 4th. Hell, put Losman in there and roll the pocket out and give him the choice of running or throwing it. A mobile QB at the goal line is one of the toughest things to defend.

The Most Disgusting Run Defense Ever

Let's not get too nostalgic. The Viking D is horrible against the run. -

Actually, I consider Sam a liability against the run. He has a great first step burst, which he uses at times to shoot the gap and get into the backfield and make the noticeable play. However, what we really need is a guy to go in there and take up two blockers consistently and free up LBs to make plays. I'd love to see Gray make Sam cover two gaps and hold the line of scrimmage instead of what we're doing now. -

You have to be kidding me. His 70% completion percentage is exactly what every other QB in the league completes in the 0-10 yard range...the only differencethat is that is the only pass that Holcomb attempts so his total completion percentage remains that high. The Raiders didn't mind Holcomb dumping the ball off, in fact they played a perfect D for it. They'd let him dump it off and there was an LB or a S there to make the tackle every single time. As for the "everything around him going to pieces" part, you are correct. Of course, this is exactly why we shouldn't be wasting time with Holcomb at QB. -
Nice, blaming the Oline because the QB couldn't handle a snap. I guess the Bills Oline in the glory years sucked too as I recall J. Kelly in the shotgun many times.
-
What exactly has Holcomb accomplished in this league that he has "earned" the right to call out teammates in the media? Just because he's been in the league for a long time? It's a bad move for a QB to all out his line publicly. Privately, sure, have at it. But at the first sign of trouble what does Holcomb do? He passes the buck. That's just great.
-
Did you see the route Moss ran? He didn't even try to sell the slant that much, but Clements bit on it anyway giving him the sideline in the process. If Moss had made a play to get the TD I'd agree with you, but it was a mistake by Clements that resulted in the TD.
-
And some T-Shirts. I don't know why people are giving up on this season, they've just got to "Bill-eave!"
-
It has nothing to do with the Oline. It takes a WR 2 seconds to run 15 yards down the field, the Oline gives him enough time he just doesn't pull the trigger...ever. That being said this debacle isn't all Holcomb's fault, the entire team just sucks on the road.
-
We got killed with whatever Oakland tried to do. When they wanted to throw it, they trew it. When they wanted to run it, they ran it. It didn't really matter.

A few roughing the passer calls on screen passes will move us into FG range.
