The issue here isn't whether football "caused" the stroke. It's weather somebody that has a heart problem should be playing football. You can't tell me that cardiovascular exercise doesn't put strain on the heart... As for the doctor(s) clearing him, it doesn't mean that their diagnosis is correct. I don't see what the guy’s rush is, why go out there and test whether or not the doctors are right? If they’re right he gets to play half a season, if they’re wrong he could end up dead. Do the pros outweigh the cons? I have the sinking feeling that at some point this season we're going to see a story about Bruschi collapsing in practice.

Inability to stop the run: where's the problem?
MDH replied to TPS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd buy the Crowell excuse if this D wasn't getting run over while Spikes was still in the lineup. I've seen no real dropoff in our run D since Crowell took over. It sucked before and it sucks now. I'll agree that part of the problem is Gray and his love of all things BLITZ! -
Or, I guess I could have said is short and sweet like SDS.

For the love of god, every single week people post on the board on the "proper" way to enjoy a game. Different people see and feel different things. I, for one, don't want to come to this board every week to see every single post being a "YAY FOR US!" or a "WE TOTALLY SUCK!" post. Diversity is a good thing. Personally, I enjoy the hell out of the victories but I also enjoy looking at the team's play and critiquing the poor play as well as lauding the good play. I think this is what many people enjoy, yet every time somebody says something critical we get the above message about how to “enjoy” the win.

Funny how no one has brought up Holcomb's INT
MDH replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apparently we're looking for different things out of the QB position on this Bills team. I'm looking for a guy that doesn't make mistakes, completes passes to move the chains and can put the ball in McGahee's hands so the running game can carry the load. Holcomb has done a decent job but the guys on this board thinking he's an above average QB are kidding themselves. He's not a freewheeling playmaking QB that will make big plays with the ball. If you're a QB that doesn't make a lot of big plays then I expect you to be very careful with the ball. One mistake can cost a team the game. Holcomb needs to play close to the vest for this team to succeed. If it were Brett Favre or Peyton Manning back there I'd be all for him trying to make every play he can. But Holcomb isn't that type of QB. Take the sack. A punt isn't a bad thing, a turnover is. -
Actually, its not the same offense. The offense under JP was simplified so he'd have less decision making to do. Obviously, this makes it easier on the QB but it also makes it easier on the D to defend. If JP's first few reads were covered he was SOL whereas Holcomb has the entire field to work with. I'm not claiming that this was a bad move by the Bills coaching staff, obviously it wasn't as JP just hasn't grasped the entirety of the offense yet. But to claim that this is the "same" offense simply isn't true.

If you show up to RWS in 3 weeks you're going to be a lonely person.

I'd actually slot that in the "bad" column. He needs to just eat the sack instead of being careless with the ball. The fact that the pass was complete (for a 4 yard loss) doesn't negate the fact that Holcomb doesn't take care of the ball as well as he should be. -
Inability to stop the run: where's the problem?

Milloy was set near the LoS most of the day, he wasn't set deep that often. I can't speak to the second long run by Martin (I stepped out at halftime and didn't get back until just before the INT), but on the first long run Milloy was in the proper position to make the play until the last moment. Instead of playing it conservatively and making a tackle 4-5 yards past the LoS he shot through a gap where he thought Martin was going to go, got walled off by an offensive lineman engaged with a DL and wasn't in position to make the tackle. Consequently Martin took off down field. That's the main problem I see in general with this run D. The players are losing containment in the attempt to make a big play (see Sam Adams). When it works the D looks great. When it doesn't big plays often result. Obviously, this is the type of D the Bills prefer to play. Go for broke and hope the offense doesn't burn you. However, the last guy I want to consistently be out of position on D is the SS. Milloy needs to rein it in a little bit. -
I agree, yesterday the D recovered well after the big plays, but if teams are consistently getting big plays against us you can't count on that always happening. This D is allowing 158 yards per game and 5.3 yards per carry (which is good for worst in the league). I don't care how teams are getting the yards, it needs to stop and soon. If this team has any hopes of winning the division the run D has got to be shored up.

Looking for the secondary to limit long runs (which has been the Bills achilles heel this year) isn't asking for much. Milloy needs to play more disciplined in his run support. Every team is going to break off 10-yard runs here and there, that's not a big deal. But Milloy not being in position to prevent 25+ yard runs is a huge deal. That in combination with some missed tackles (which I'll attribute to the cast) and I'll say that Milloy is far from impressing me this year. -
This has always been a pet peeve of mine… Take away the long runs? Why would you do that? Points come out of big plays in this league. In just about every game this year the Bills given up long runs that have cost them. So if we just took away all the long runs the D has had against them this season we have a good run defense? Maybe if we could just get the NFL to agree to not give the opponents any points on series which they had long runs you'd be on to something. As for your comments on the Bills Oline, I agree completely. The right side of this line had a great game yesterday, MW in particular. Not only did he move his man consistently, he sustained the blocks and allowed Willis the opportunity to cut back and take the ball where the play wasn't designed to go. People shouldn't forget to mention Gandy either, this guy has gone from the biggest question mark on the line to our most consistent performer. People bashed the hell out of TD for bringing Gandy in to replace Jonas but he's done the job thus far.
-
WTF are you talking about, played to hurt people? This has to be one of the most outlandish statements I've read in a long while on the board. Where to you get this sh*t?
-
People get too uptight over players enjoying themselves on the field. Sure they can go overboard (see T.O.) but a guy doing a little dance after a score is no big deal.
-
I wouldn't go so far as they have to win this week, but they do need to win one of the next two to have a shot. With the way NE has been playing as of late I wouldn't chalk up an automatic win for them against anybody (though at the same time I still think they're good enough to beat anybody, talk about an enigma). The next two games are huge for the Bills. Lose them both and the chances of making the playoffs are almost nil. Win them both and the Bills are suddenly the favorite to win the division. Split them and they still have a shot at the playoffs. Sure they could lose them both and still make the playoffs but I wouldn't put too much confidence in a team that hasn't won a single road game at the halfway point. My guess is they'll win at Oakland and lose an NE and go into the break 4-4 as this goes along with my "worst possible scenario" theory. The theory being that the Bills will hang around the fringe of the playoffs all year, Losman will get no more playing time, and the Bills will just miss the playoffs. Yeah, I'm a negative guy, so shoot me.
-
When Losman was putting in loads of hours in the off season the Buffalo media all loved the guy and wrote articles on how the fans would love him too because of his work ethic. The moment he struggles suddenly he's "California cool"? Whatever.
-
It's not difficult to think that this team doesn't have a realistic shot at the playoffs. In fact, it's quite easy.

Better ST? The Bills ST is leading the league in KO return avg. and is second in the league in kick coverage and to top it off Mooreman appears to be back to his old self. Lindell looks a Pro Bowler compared to Nugent thus far. Better OL and running game? I know it's popular to bash on the Bills Oline but the Bills are averaging 4.2ypc (which ranks 10th in the league). This is without any threat of a passing game. The Jets? They're dead last in the league at 2.7ypc. Yeah, that Jets Oline is doing a great job. Sacks? As much as the Bills suck the Jets are one of the few teams that have allowed more sacks this year. I'll give you the D based on the way the Bills have been playing this year but as bad as the Bills O looks this year the Jets look even worse. This game is a tossup. If the Bills D can get back on track there's no reason they shouldn't beat a pretty bad Jets team that is on the road. If they can't stop Curtis Martin it'll be a long day.
-
A home game against a weak opponent won't tell us much (unless the Bills lose). The Bills need to win either @Oak or @NE in weeks 7 and 8. Win one of those games and they might be a legitimate playoff contender. Go into the bye week 3-5 and they're pretty much dead in the water.
-
Antwain Smith gets his shot in NO too now that Duece is down for the year. So the question is who will have more yards rushing at the end of the year, A. Smith or T. Henry? I'll put my money on Smith.
-
He was just pretending to talk on the cell phone in the hopes that it would make Willis look like a more desirable client.
-
Sure, we can speak accurately about his limitations (to put it nicely) as a OC and HC. But we're not talking about him as an OC or a HC. We're speaking about him as a QB coach, which is a "teaching" position. My point being that nobody here can speak to how effective (or ineffective) he is in this position. Don’t get my wrong, I loathe Gilbride, LOATH him. That being said I’m not going to rip the job he’s done in NY when there’s no way to know other than the results (and the results are good thus far).
-
I think it's too easy to say that Gilbride isn't helping Eli. Honestly, most of us have no clue how good of a coach the guy is. All we know is his offensive schemes and his play-calling suck. The guy might be a great teacher for all we know.

So cheesy with this hide who is playing BS
MDH replied to CentralVaBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This isn't college football. If a team doesn't show up ready to play on Sunday they'll get beaten no matter who the opponent is. The “easy” schedule thing just doesn’t fly in the NFL. Bad teams don’t win consistently, even against other bad teams. -
That's because he's supposed to be on at 7pm on Thursday.
