1. The turnovers were nice but I'd really like to see them improve the run D. 97 yards doesn't look so bad...but the 5.7ypc that the Phins averaged is ridiculous.
2. You must realize that the only reason you think so highly of these other team's OLine is because you don't watch them week in and week out every single play? Looking at pretty stats and saying, "that oline is good" or watching them when they play the Bills (who can't get a decent rush on anybody using just 4 rushers) isn't a good way of evaluating a line. Get MW back in the lineup, a QB that can make quick reads and sound play calling and you'll see the sacks drop (has anybody seen crossing pattern on the three step drop this year?) This line is nowhere near as bad as people want to make it sound. I'm not contending they are world beaters, I'd say they're average. The fact that you single out Gandy, who has been a gem of a find for us thus far, signals to me that (like Simon said) your expectations are through the roof. Only a handful of teams will have players like Ogden and it’s a lucky break when they pan out to be HoFers. If you’re going to single anybody out (of our actual starters, not the backups) I’d say it should be Teague. The guy has been abused often this year.
3. Everybody wants to win. Those of us who want to see Losman take his lumps now just don't believe that this is a playoff contender even with Holcomb at the helm. The game yesterday illustrated this point perfectly. That being said, I hope the Bills prove me wrong and get into the postseason.
4. Barry Sanders was inducted this year. Also, Deon Sanders is still playing.
5. It must have been because the D was left out to dry and was on the field way too much. As we all know, that's why the D gives up lots of yards in the second half of games...
6. That is just BS. The reason everybody thinks the refs always screw up is because any mistake they make is broadcast to the universe. Imagine every time you made a mistake at work if every single person in the nation knew about it, you'd probably get a bad reputation too, even if you were excellent at your job.
7. I look for San Diego to destroy Pittsburgh tonight. The way SD has been playing the last few weeks I'm not sure anybody in the NFL is better. Gates makes this team so much better, he's a monster and opens up everything. Teams have to deside if they're going to take away Gates or put another guy in the box to stop LT. No matter what they do they're screwed.
8. The Bills don't have to beat those teams to get to the playoffs. Two of the three games you mention are on the road. Asking them to win all of those is unrealistic. The Bills need to win the divsion, they're not going to have a good enough record to get a wild card. To win the division they need to sweep the Phins and Jets and split with the Pats. After that they need to win at least 1 road game (other than division road games) and win the rest at home (they might be able to lose one other home game). If they did that and won the rest at home they'd be 10-6, if they lost 1 more at home it would be 9-7 which might be good enough to win the division with tiebreakers.
9. I actually think it was Fletcher that caused the fumble at the end and not Clements. Clements moved his shoulder towards the ball but if you look carefully Brown pulls the ball down and Nate's shoulder hits nothing. It's Flethers hand coming around the backside that knocked the ball loose.
10. There's a reason most of the ref's are old and the NFL doesn't hire full time refs. The NFL only hires refs that are wealthy. This is the way they try to avoid gamblers tampering with the refs. The way the NFL figures it, if the refs already have money they're less likely to take a bribe. As for the original post, I'm of the opinion that only blatantly obvious penalties should be called. The flags interrupt the flow of the game and get in the way of the players making plays. I don't want ticky-tack fouls to be called. Let the players determine the outcome of the games, not flags.
11. What do you want him to say? They ask a question and he can either 1) answer it or 2) say, "no comment" and look like a sulking child. He answered the question as well as it can be answered for a guy that just got benched.
12. Bengals just did the same thing on a 4th and inches call. Brought the WR in motion only to stop him right behind the tackle. Makes absolutely no sense.
13. Well, by "consistently" I didn't mean week in and week out. I expect bad performances four or so times a year. Of course, that means that the Bills have already reached their quota.
14. Houshmandzadeh is one of the best (if not the best) #2 WR's in the game.
15. I'll give the D credit, they came up with the big play that they needed. That being said, it's become all too common for this D to give up big drives late in games that end up costing the Bills wins. From the moment the Dolphins started that last drive I had the sinking feeling that it was going to happen again. Thankfully, this time, they made the game breaking play. Let's hope they can build off of this.
16. I'm just the opposite. I love the fact that the coaching staff/front office never gives him an answer he wants. Despite what Sully and the fans think, the team doesn't owe them a straight answer on who is hurt or who is starting.
17. Heh, that's funny. I had this exact thought tonight as I walked the dog. I came to the conclusion that I just want the Bills to play well, consistently. If they lose, that's fine. But if they play well consistently they'll win a hell of a lot more than they lose. What I can't stand (and it aggravates me to no end) is inconsistent play. I'd almost rather they totally sucked and it was easy to isolate the problems and fix them.
18. And those players that aren't playing well usually say as much. Yet I don't see people bitching about the players saying they can play better. But if someone posts it, they're not a "TRUE" fan. Also, to compare this team to a Yankee team that has won their division 8 straight years is comical. This Bills team hasn't won their division in what, 10 years? I think the Yankees get the benefit of the doubt when they get out of the gate slowly, whereas this Bills team has to prove to me that they are a good team. I'll take wins anyway I can get them, but I'm not going to be pleased when the team plays poorly and the other team hands us the game (unless said game is the Super Bowl).
19. The only thing that's ignorant is your assumption that ignorance is the opposite of intelligence. 471036 Reading comprehension obviously isn't your friend. Keep slapping your head, perhaps you'll knock something into place.
20. Some people just love to complain! Its a low self-esteem issue. 470969 Some people just love to accept mediocrity. It's an intelligence issue. Ignorance is bliss... I have no clue why people feel the need to insult others who have a different opinion, but if you are going to jump the gun I'm happy to fire back.
21. Saban looked extensively at Holcomb in the offseason as they considered picking him up (though they ended up going with Frerotte instead). I don't think this threw a curve ball at the Dolphins at all.
22. If the Bills got 5 turnovers and 18 penalties against the Patriots, Steelers, Colts or Eagles I'd expect them to blow them out of the water too. No matter who you are playing if the Bills are a good team a game like this is never close.
23. I don't know about benching Moulds as he'll aid Losman's growth. However, anybody on that D is subject to being sat down imo though Fletcher might be the exception.
24. If this team isn't competitive enough to legitimately contend for a SB title then yeah, this year should be about preparing our young players for next year, particularly our QB. If a team doesn't have the patience to watch a young QB struggle then they should never draft a QB in the first round. And no, it’s not about one player; the entire organization benefits from stability at the QB position.
25. Well, that's the debate now isn't it? Short term success (like today against Miami) vs. long term team success. Long term success only happens in the NFL with stability at the QB position (among other things). I’ve never seen a team be completive year in and year out without stability at the QB position.
