Historical pundit's perspective on the draft
MDH replied to John Adams's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What exactly is this supposed to prove? That the "experts" aren't right all the time? Umm, okay, I think we can all agree on that. Obviously the team's GMs aren't correct all the time as your examples also demonstrate. So, despite that the GMs "know more than the fans" they can also be wrong. -
Whitner might not be as bad of a pick as we
MDH replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you're going to tout the 3rd round pick as a "steal" because he had a "1st round grade" then you have to criticize the first two picks as huge reaches. It's called consistency. You can't say that the draftnicks don't know what they're talking about for the first two guys and then turn around and use their grades to call the 3rd pick a "steal". -
Does Mort have a Vendetta against Bills?
MDH replied to buffalo mike2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You realize if the Bills won the east Mort would give the credit to TD and his past player personel decisions. -
That's a great analogy...except that RJ was a physical specimen with a 10 cent head and Leinart lacks some physical skills but his decision making is top notch. That being said I didn’t want to see the Bills select Leinart. I think Leinart will be a fine QB but he wasn't a good fit considering the Bills many needs.

If he answered that you might have to beat him so severally that he'd have to drink his meals through a straw the rest of his life...and you'd be ecstatic about it.

Round 1 (#26) Selection: DT John McCargo
MDH replied to udonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you'll see them both on the field more often than you think. Probably not on short yardage or obvious running plays but on 2nd and 3rd and long I'd imagine they'll be lined up together. -
That looks like a good draft but at some point Arizona is going to have to stop opposing teams from scoring. Denny Green thinks he's putting together a fantasy football team.
-
Lacrosse team, get it right.

While you are absolutely correct this is also the same line that people have used the last 5 years to defend bad drafts. While TD certainly knows more about football than any of us it didn't prevent those people who bashed the drafts in years past from being correct. Just knowing more than the fans who are criticizing doesn’t mean the draft is a good one. As someone on ESPN said early, "the great thing about the draft is that everybody has an opinion and NOBODY is wrong, at least on draft day."

He's the guy that ultimately calls the shots when it comes to football operations. He's the guy that decided to go with the “consensus idea” so when the "consensus" makes these picks he's still the guy that has to answer for it.

You know...the Yobuty pick is a very smart one
MDH replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm curious what the Bills are saving all this cap room for? How is Nate "too expensive" when the Bills are in the neighborhood of 9 million under the cap? -
Walt "Bend But Don't Break" Cory was forcing teams to go 3 and out?
-
If the Bills are looking to make a run next year (which is the realistic time-table) the smart move would have been to address the OL this year. That way they had a year of seasoning before they were expected to be productive. The way this has panned out we have to hope for a super sleeper tomorrow or hope that by some miracle quality OL hit FA next year and we're able to outbid the rest of the league for them. I don't mind the Youboty pick in terms of value but damn this team needs some quality OL. This seems like the same strategy TD used for the OL which got us nowhere. At some point you have to pony up and spend high round draft picks on the OL.
-
Just out of curiousity how can you use the guru rankings to defend a pick now and say they don't know what they're talking about with the first few picks?
-
While I wouldn't have been happy with this pick in the first round, or even early second, but he would be a solid round 3 pick even with his injury history.
-
I would hope that there aren't many people that believe their opinions to be facts.

Round 1 (#26) Selection: DT John McCargo
MDH replied to udonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nobody is arguing that they weren't old and on the decline. My point is that these holes were created by the new regime. There was no rush to replace those guys with 1st-rounders this year. They could have used later picks to groom behind them or let the draft come to them in the early rounds and still gotten players to replace them this year. If the latter happened they could have then cut Milloy and Adams after the draft. If they didn't find early picks to replace them then they could groom some other players behind those guys or found their replacements next year. There was absolutely no hurry to rid the team of them. -

You are being just as presumptuous as I am so give yourself an eye-roll too. -
Is this like "Love it or Leave it"? Somehow criticizing your team equates to not loving them? I'd think it's just the opposite; those that sit there complacently don't care enough to form an opinion.
-
I doesn't matter who will be there as the Bills will take someone that was projected to be an UDFA.
-
I'm not sure if I should laugh at this or be afraid. Nicely done!

Round 1 (#26) Selection: DT John McCargo
MDH replied to udonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think I'd be nearly as annoyed with the move if Marv and Co. hadn't created this huge position of need by cutting Adams. The same goes for cutting Milloy. If the Bills hadn't cut these guys they'd have two serviceable players at those spots and could really use the draft to fix the OL and, barring that, wouldn't feel so pressured to grab a S or DT. If they did manage to grab quality players at these positions they could have cut Milloy and Adams after the draft. It's not like the salary cap was forcing them to cut these guys. -

I'd be very interested in knowing how the Buffalo Bills organization is more informed about other teams value charts than the entire media. Say what you will about the media, they're getting their info from the same places as the Bills [i.e. talking to other teams or hearing rumors that they read in the (gasp) papers and on the internet]. The Bills aren't the CIA with under-cover agents stationed in each of the 31 teams front offices. -
If you really want to mangle someone for life simply because of a message board argument you have a lot of problems and should probably seek some help.

After his workout I'm not surprised at all. He showed up overweight and slow. That doesn't show much desire. Teams don't want guys that aren't self motivating.
