Who cares if it's close to value if you're going to just pick the guy anyway. You take ANY offer before you pick a guy that will be there 7 picks later.
It doesn't matter how good the guy will be, he wasn't a value pick. The Bills could have moved down to the 15 spot, picked up a 3rd (hell, or even a lousy 4th!) and STILL gotten him, at a cheaper price tag too. This pick is bad on so many levels that have nothing to do with how succeful the player will be.
My favorite part of the pick is that it only fills a hole that Marv created. Milloy struggled last year sure but not so much that the Bills needed to cut him and select a SS in the top 10. Does anybody think this kid is going to step in and be better than Milloy would have been healthy this year? I'm not a big Milloy fan but a lot of his problems last year have to be attributed to him playing injured.
They could have traded all the way down to 15 and still gotten him. I don't care if they only get a 4th to do so, at least that's SOMETHING. Unbelievable.
Dunn is a good runner between the tackles, despite his size. I'm not saying Bush wil be a bust, once he learns how to put his head down and get tough yards he'll be a very good RB. But I think he'll struggle in his first few seasons until he figures out he can't just get by on his natural athletic ability like he could before.
As you said though, I don't think he's worth the #1 pick.
I don't think they'll regret this at all. Williams will be a better player than Bush and it fills a position of need. I might be the only guy on the planet that thinks Bush is going to struggle as a RB in the NFL. I've yet to see him run effectively between the tackles and his typical run-toward-the-sideline-on-every-single-play style won't work nearly as well in the NFL. He'll be effective if teams use him out of the backfield in the passing game but I don't see how one can justify using the first pick on a guy that's going to see, maybe, 15 touches a game.
You actually think he noticed Reyes' play last year and that's why he doesn't think he should start? I doubt he'd even heard of Reyes before the Bills brought him in a few weeks ago. I doubt anybody here can really speak to how good or bad he is...all most of us know is that he CAN'T be worse than Benny.
1. Houston: Reggie Bush, RB, USC
2. New Orleans: Mario Williams, DE, NC State
3. Tennessee: Vince Young, QB, Texas
4. NY Jets: Matt Leinart, QB, USC
5. Green Bay: Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland
There's not a sure thing, so given that I'm of the opinion you pick up the most picks possible. The more picks you have the more likely you are to have multiple players pan out, particularly in a deep draft, which this is.
Last time I checked there were 2 Safties in the league that one could say make a big enough impact to be chosen in the top 10...and one of them wasn't chosen that high. S is one of the easiest spots to fill with mid-round guys. Unless the Bills staff feels that Huff is one of the select few guys that can be difference makers at the S position he'd be a luxury pick.
If Drew is sitting there in the 3rd round he'd be a great pick. The guy plays as hard as any RB I've seen in a long time and is a demon catching the ball out of the backfield and working in open space. If Drew could stay healthy (a big if) he'd push Willis and (hopefully) make him better in the process. Willis definitely needs a push, he seemed complacent last year.
That being said, I don't think Drew is there in the 3rd. I wouldn't mind seeing the Bills grab Riggs Jr. in the 4th or 5th.
Actually, he'd just move the team to the LA market and increase the vaule of the club significanty by doing so...then he'd sell the club and make a huge profit.
There was absolutely nothing in that article about him being an out of shape player that doesn't play hard.
That being said, I don't want the Bills to take him with the 8th pick, though it has very little to do with Ngata. The draft is very deep at DT and there is no reason to take one with a top 10 pick unless he's clearly superior to every other DT in the draft.
